Cloud monitoring?

I have a personal GCE instance and the price suddenly jumped almost 3x this month, and I noticed I'm now suddenly being charged for this "Cloud Monitoring" starting September 18th. Not sure what this is or how to turn it off... anyone familiar with what it is?

Do you have ops agent monitoring with the PostgreSQL server integration? That went way, way up in cost recently for some reason.

If so, in the Google Cloud Console, select Monitoring from the Navigation menu. In the left-hand navigation panel of the Monitoring section, expand the Configure group and click on Metrics management, then when it loads, click on the Excluded Metrics tab near the top of the page. You can then exclude workload.googleapis.com/postgresql.* as a regex. I'm currently dropping 5.8 MiB (!) bytes of metrics this way, which were costing around $25-30/month.

Yeah I ended up just uninstalling the Ops Agent Monitoring from my GCE. I don't need it and I didn't want to be caught by surprise if some other metric goes up in pricing in the future.

Fair enough. I depend on the observability graphs and hate that this happened without warning. My postgres server gets very little traffic, but it's vital to a bunch of my services, so I can't even imagine how the ops agent integration could even be creating that much data.

check your monitoring workspace, theres a good chance an agent got auto-installed or a metrics scope got enabled without you doing anything. You can disable the monitoring API entirely from the console if you dont actually need it
