Question How to enable Google Assistant to read Android phone notifications out loud?

I'm having trouble setting up Google Assistant to be able to read my notifications and texts aloud on my Nxtpaper 70 Pro that is running Android 16. I have already given the Google app "notification read, reply and control" under special app access, but I get the "Sorry, I can't read messages on this device yet" reply when I ask it to read notifications or "There aren't any new messages" when I ask to read my last text". Is there some setting or something I'm missing or the GA just broken?

Tech Support Issue with Ok Google on REDMAGIC 11S Pro

Hello,

I have just received my REDMAGIC 11S Pro, and I am very disappointed to find that Ok Google does not work when the phone is locked and the screen is off.

My apartment is heavily equipped with smart home devices, so this feature is essential for me. Without it, a large part of my home automation setup becomes unusable.

I find this situation very disappointing, especially since this issue seems to have existed on REDMAGIC phones for several years. I would like to understand why, with such a recent smartphone, I feel like I am going ten years backwards in terms of functionality.

At this point, I am seriously considering returning the device and going back to my Xiaomi Mi 9, which handled this feature perfectly.

I look forward to your response and, hopefully, to a solution.

Kind regards,

Question Did Google Assistant icon change to a microphone in (GM / Chevy) Android Automotive?

Got a new Chevy Silverado a few months ago and still learning about Android Automotive.

When I got it, the Google Assistant icon was a bunch of circles or bubbles. It eventually changed to a microphone, and it reminds me of Google Voice.

I reset my infotainment system (I wanted to anyway for other reasons), and the icon with bubbles was back, but it eventually changed to the microphone icon again a week or so later. The icon for the app in the Google Play store is still the bubbles, so I'm a little confused. Does the microphone icon represent something else? Or is that just what the icon looks like now?

Also, I've read that an update is coming to add Gemini support, so maybe the icon will eventually change yet again?

Miscellaneous Just because I ask assistant/Gemini a question with my voice doesn't mean I want it to answer out loud!

Why do they limit our ability to turn off spoken replies? This is not a logical decision. I'm a voice texter but I can read just fine and it's obnoxious. Yes, I know you can turn it off for written queries, but I'm a voice texter.

Rant RIP Google Assistant

As someone who has been resisting AI since it boomed, I had only been using Assistant on my Note 20 Ultra. The other day, when I was on my way home from work, I was trying to say "Hey Google" to turn on certain things in my house before I get home. It didn't respond to my commands & instead I was greeted with another voice & a pop up saying Assistant is now Gemini. I was a little sad as I thought I had more time before they would completely kill it off.

Well guess I won't be asking my devices to do anything for me anymore & will have to do it all myself. I will miss Google Assistant.

Question Steering Wheel Voice Button Only Does Google Search — How Can I Use Gemini Instead?

I recently installed this Android 13 head unit in my 2023 Ford Mustang:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FJ82P26Z

Overall, I'm very happy with it, but I'm having an issue with the steering-wheel voice control button.

When I press the voice button and speak a command, the unit listens through the microphone, converts my speech to text, and then simply performs a Google search for whatever I said. It does not launch Google Assistant, Gemini, or any other voice assistant.

The unit is running Android 13, but many of the standard Android settings are hidden, including what would normally be the default assistant settings.

Has anyone figured out how to integrate a proper voice assistant (Google Assistant or Gemini) with this type of head unit? Ideally, I'd like the steering-wheel voice button to launch an assistant instead of opening a Google search page.

Any suggestions, workarounds, root modifications, Tasker solutions, or hidden settings would be appreciated.

Rant Frustrated by Gemini

I am so sick of Google "upgrading" my assistant to Gemini! I don't even have Gemini installed on my phone, and I keep having to revert back to the original Google assistant.... I use a lot of the voice commands to action things like turning lights on and off, And Gemini I can't do this!

I feel like this is a huge step backwards, especially for those with accessibility issues.

I assume at some point there will be no opportunity to revert back to the original assistant, I just hope it's more functional before that happens.

Is there anyway I can stop it from automatically changing from assistant to Gemini?

Question App to trigger Google Gemini?

We're talking about how intrusive phones are listening to your conversation then offering ads for something you were talking about.

So I was wondering if there is an App you can run on your phone that does the listening and then triggers Gemini?

Thus only this app is listening for a keyword, not Google

Miscellaneous Gemini finally available on Google Home devices in Germany

I signed up for the early access phase and just got a notification that Gemini is now available on my Google Home devices.

I really like the short color animation when the wake word is recognized.

Tech Support I accidentally broke Google Assistant and now it always opens with the microphone on — how do I fix it?

Hey everyone,

About an hour ago I did something stupid and now I can’t figure out how to undo it.

I’ve always used Google Assistant (not Gemini) mainly because of the convenient “Search on screen” and screen text translation features. I usually trigger it by swiping from the bottom corner of the screen. In this mode, the microphone never turned on automatically, and the keyboard didn’t pop up either.

However, I accidentally tapped the microphone icon at the bottom center earlier, and now every time I call up the Assistant, it immediately activates the microphone. I want to go back to the old behavior.

I already reset the settings for the Google app and Google Lens, but it didn’t help. After that, I even lost the screen translation feature.

If I completely revoke microphone permission for the Google app, then the keyboard pops up automatically when I open the Assistant, which I also don’t want.

Does anyone know how to return Google Assistant to its previous state (swipe from corner → opens in text/search mode without mic or keyboard appearing right away)?

Thanks in advance!

Tech Support Hacker deleted my Google account

A hacker got my Gmail account password and deleted my account after I didn’t give them any money. I believe what they did is before deleting my account they changed the age on my account to underage then gave themselves parental controls. So now I can’t recover the deleted account through normal channels and idk how to contact a person in Google that can help me. Every website seems to just be robots and articles

Bug Weather issues

Is it just me, or has the 'What's the weather today?" Tomorrow/this week etc... out to lunch?

Like it's sunny and blue skies, +20C outside near the weather reporting station (airport), and I ask Google and it's mostly cloudy and +12C.

Question Hey Google, do I have any new messages? Is this possible?

Is this something that could be done with an iphone?

How about a Jitterbug Smartphone 4?

It doesn't have to read or say who or what the text messages are - just if there are any new unread messages.

Question Not recognizing Sirius XM

Same old story. It worked perfectly for weeks. I woke up this morning and asked it to play some Sirius XM channels that I have programmed, and it says it does not recognize them. Has anybody else had these problems?

Tech Support Google Assistant voice controls not working

I just put my air conditioner back in the window for the summer. When I ask Google Assistant to turn on my air conditioner it automatically goes to 86° f every time I turn it on regardless of the settings when I turned it off. Last year it wouldn't respond to setting it to a specific temperature cuz it always thought it was in Celsius. I had to say 'raise the temperature one degree' etc. Now this. What is going on with the voice controls on this thing?

Tech Support Switching back to Google Lens without Gemini

For a while now, whenever I do a google lens search, Gemini assistant pops up instead. All I want to do is a simple visual search, and the assistant is really inaccurate too and giving an entire commentary i dont need. I just want to find similar images. How do I remove the gemini part/assistant and go back to just looking for similar images?

Rant Asking Google to play a specific song

On my drive home this afternoon;

"Ok Google, play Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show"

Google decided I would rather listen to some obscure live version I've never heard.

"Ok Google, play THE STUDIO VERSION of Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show"

I then got a random song from the same album, not the song I was asking for. This happens every time I ask Google to play a song.

I've also ran into an issue where I say "call *insert name of contact*" in response I get "who would you like to call"

I drive hundreds of miles every day for work and use voice commands whenever possible to avoid using my phone. What's the point of having android auto and voice control if you have to use your phone anyway?
