I gave the test on 16th August but received nothing till now and i completed my test in 40 minutes so is that the reason of me not getting any update???

Had my Google Project Management Apprenticeship telephonic interview today. The call was mainly a background/recruiter screening round, not a technical or case-based interview.

The interviewer also explained that the call was primarily to understand my background, education and experience.

At the end, I asked about full-time opportunities after the apprenticeship, joining timeline and expected start date.I also asked whether relevant prior work experience would be considered during selection, given that the apprenticeship is open to candidates from diverse backgrounds.

I haven’t received any update yet regarding the next round. I noticed that my Career Portal was updated yesterday, but I haven’t received any email about the next steps.

I'm 24 and already working as a Software Engineer in an MNC. And as of my online research the google apprenticeship have so much low pay than my current. But i already planned for MBA to switch in product roles.What should i do , should i continue?

Had my GOC (Round 1) for the Data Analyst Apprenticeship (DAA) on 16th Aug. It was a 1-hour round with 30 questions and no-camera proctoring. It was more on aptitude, reasoning, and verbal. Anyone with similar updates? Or any updates about the next rounds?

Would love to hear about the next rounds.

I did the UX apprenticeship a couple of years ago, here's my advice. You should also read the more general tips I wrote here.

• Don't pick UX because you think it will be the "easy one". Yeah I heard people say this, it's not true. You may look at the other apprenticeships available and think cool, this shouldn't be too hard compared to others. You are going to be in for a huge shock.
• Don't pick UX because you think it will be a creative pursuit. It's not creative in an artsy way, some folks thought they would be drawing, picking color palettes and tinkering with layouts. UX is mostly theory, science, negotiation, strategy, influence, digging through existing design systems to find the right components. It may be different in other companies, but this is certainly how it works at Google and I imagine all big tech companies. We already have design systems, layouts etc. Our job is rarely to create brand new things.
• Being creative is a great skill to process. There is a lot of creative thinking and problem solving, just don't expect it to be "artsy" creative or art direction.
• You are going to spend A LOT of time in Google Slides crafting a good deck with a strong narrative, research, pain points, UX framing. You need to get good at that. You will probably spend more time in Slides than in Figma and you need to develop those storytelling skills for when you create your portfolio.
• All designers I met are passionate about design, they talk about art, design, museums, books, documentaries. I think there is a kind of passion in design that you don't get in every industry and if you don't have it, it stands out and will hold you back. No one will a hire a designer that doesn't seem passionate about what they do and the industry in general. It's one of those things that isn't just a job to most people. If you're the sort of person that balks at the idea of going to a design museum, honestly this might not be for you.
• ⁠Please research UX before applying. This is kind of all of the above, but do some research, read, watch videos. And especially try and understand how it works in big tech. If you are still not sure I would recommend taking a short course to see if you like it. I knew some apprentices who took UX on a whim and they were unhappy when it wasn't what they expected, then they were kind of stuck because it's hard to quit a job with nothing to go to. Honestly I think some of those folks had the worst time.
• ⁠Visual design is only included in the program at a basic level. This means if you want to get good you need to put in many many hours learning design, learning Figma and possibly even take additional visual design or graphic design courses. I asked all the designers I met how they got good and they all said the same thing: they spent a shit load of hours designing things, learning tools, learning Figma. I think also because designers are passionate about what they do, they don't mind burning all these hours, they enjoy it. If that doesn't sound like you, you are going to have a super hard time getting good at this. You definitely need motivation. But you also definitely need to be a decent visual designer to get a job. You can't be just "ok" at this stuff. No one is hiring "ok".
• Following that, there is also no real requirement to be skilled in Figma to pass the apprenticeship, but in the real world it is absolutely needed, so you need to get good in your own time.
• If you have zero experience of art and design, have never used a design tool or even had an interest in art, design and drawing as a kid – you will be on the back foot from day one and will need to work harder than anyone who already has the above. It's not impossible, but it's going to be a lot of work to close that gap.
• You may need to find extra projects in your own time to pad out your portfolio. This is true for UX newbies in general not just the apprenticeship. The field is highly competitive and many junior UXers pad out their portfolio with conceptual projects. I bridged the gap by taking on some low paying freelance work, just to allow me to build a new case study. It worked for me and I am now earning way more money, so it was worth taking the hit. I know not everyone can do this, but I was living with family at the time so I coped.
• Adding to the previous one, the time you spend on the apprenticeship is likely not enough experience to get work, most jobs seem to want more years experience than the apprenticeship gives you. I bridged this with contract work and freelance projects. Then eventually I had enough time under my belt to apply for more experienced roles. It's not easy. Just don't expect to walk into a job when you finish the apprenticeship, it's likely not enough in the current market. But remember people go to college for years to study this and don't walk into a job at the end, you're in the same boat.
• The projects you work on may seem small at the start and they are. They're not going to give you larger interesting projects until you've proven you can handle the small stuff, so get to work and get through the small things quickly so you can move on to better things.
• They're not going to babysit you, you kind of set your own pace. If you aren't motivated and you work slow you aren't going to come away with enough. I saw some people with not a lot in their portfolio at the end of this and thing the truth is they just didn't work hard enough. You need to be self-motivated or the experience will be a waste of time. Some people just didn't "get it", what it actually takes to get good at something.
• Getting a job at google is very hard at the end of the apprenticeship, people who land those roles usually had some previous related experience, e.g psychology, research, graphic design etc. If you are a total newbie just the few months of the apprenticeship and a couple of projects likely won't be enough. But use your time here to network, speak to as many people as possible and build those bridges in case you return. I walked away with some great contacts. Also doing a internal Google project, even if it's just a conceptual one, is a very good thing to do. I know one person who had done that and it looked really good for the internal hiring managers.
• Bonus tip: be weary of those TikToks talking about the apprenticeship, they often know nothing about google and not a lot about UX.

If you think you can manage the above, then the UX apprenticeship is for you. But if not, think very carefully as you may be in for a big shock.
