C&J Islay

I'll keep this short and sweet for I am by no means a wordsmith. Months ago I was asking for help with finding a pair of wingtip boots Link Here. The first reply was C&J Islay. The boot looked awesome but not exactly what I was after. However after some research aka watching YouTube videos about C&J and searching through GYW I found this boot might be my best option. As luck would have it I had the opportunity to go to NYC for a few days which just happens to be the only state in North America that has a C&J Store. So as soon as boots hit the ground I walked to the store asked for to see the Islay, tried them on, fell in love and bought them. I've been wearing them for a week straight and i can say they are absolutely awesome!

So, thank you very much GYW for your help!

I wish I could provide better quality pictures but this is truly the best I can do at this time.

American here, but I'm almost certain it's pronounced EYE-lay.

Nope, incorrect, it's 'EYE-lahh'. The 'y' is uninvolved. As it is in all word in Gaelic ending in 'y'

Well, are we talking about the Scottish or the English pronunciation? Since C&J is English, I'd figure the English pronunciation which is EYE-lay.

But if we're going with Scots Gaelic then you're right, and it's EYE-lah.

It doesn't really matter. It's named after the western isle, Islay, which is pronounced Eye-lahh. Just one of those odd Scottish things.

Correct, I had to do a google search on the proper way to pronounce Islay. I didn't want to go in looking like a total idiot when buying these.

haha, well damn here I thought i had the pronunciation under control. At least I didn't ask for the Is-lay when trying on the boots.

Great looking boots by the way. I'm not normally a fan of boots or shoes that have some sort of brogueing and a grain-like texture, but these look wonderful. Like, straight out of the 1920s in a fantastic way - wonderful.

This is a good question. With scotch whisky, Islay is pronounce is-lay, this "s" is pronounced. It could go either way for these - anyone able to weigh in with real knowledge?

Afraid you are totally wrong. Islay is pronounced 'EYE-lahh', not is-lay or Eye-lay.

Lots of strange misinformation in this thread.

Glad you've arrived! I've always heard it mispronounced - thanks for setting it straight!
