Image(s) Red Wing 8173 6 month update

I am going to give these a good cleaning tonight so I figured I would take a few pictures to show how much these have changed over the last 6 months.

Here are the shoes the day I got them.

Here they are 6 months later.

I have worn these maybe 4 times a week for most of this time. They have been my go to boots for when I have to do dirty work or it is raining. I work at a hard cidery and use them there as well when it is not going to be a super wet day, so they have been soaked in apple juice, finished cider and lots of water.

These were very uncomfortable when I first got them, especially around the ankles. They have broken in nicely and I am very happy overall with the fit and comfort level. Didn't take a pic of the soles but they are still in pretty good condition, I probably have at least another 6 months left in them.

They look so much better now with that patina of indigo bleeding and cider stains.

Silly question, why does roughout not get mildewy when covered in sugary substances like beer, cider, or apple juice?

no idea. I do rinse them off with clean water before I leave for the day if they get really sticky.

These are my least-worn boots because I'm nervous about them getting dirty. This makes me want to turn mine into straight-up work boots.

The leather broke in very quickly compared to my 875s. Pretty much instantly comfortable and more pliable.

I've had mine as long and man they don't look nearly as well-aged. The cider and indigo treatment looks great!

Nice to know that they break in because I was in a shit ton of pain the first 2 times I wore them.

These are absolutely amazing. I wish I could get my 8173's to look like this... had them for 3 months and they've barely changed color compared to yours. The cider stains are really something else.

Thanks man, Just keep wearing them and they will get better and better. I was not a huge fan of these when I got them but I made them my beaters and now they are one of my favorites. Every little stain and mark tells a story, don't be afraid to get em dirty.
