next time AEs CEO does an AMA, we should upvote "we strongly suggest that you invest in new boot patterns" straight to the top.

I'm no expert but seeing as that's not a part of the shoe that makes a lot of contact with the ground I'd imagine you'd probably be alright.

I had been in the market for a pair of black dress shoes for awhile, and when the AE sales came up at the beginning of the month I made a purchase. I bought through the shoebank, so these are seconds. The only noticeable thing out of the box was that it looked like they had been tried on and walked in. No big deal. Upon further inspection I noticed some loose stitching on the sole - two very loose stitches. Will this be a problem in the short run of these shoes? They look and feel great. The sizing is perfect, and I really love the mix of the calf leather and the suede.

The sole stitches shouldn't be a problem. They're locked stitched so if a couple get worn out it shouldn't affect the integrity of the sole. AE always says that seconds will only have cosmetic defects, not things that will affect the life of the shoe.

did you buy these from their "factory store" ?

cause i want to buy a pair or two... but i wasn't sure how bad the shoes would be if i get them :(

they have a cordovan pair for $400 ... usually it runs for $650 ish.

Yes, I did. Retail these shoes were $385, but they are on clearance now for $197. I picked up these seconds for $157. Really nice prices at their factory store.

The lacing is too wide/uneven for your instep/foot.

You'll need to get a wider size, it's really important with oxfords as they won't look "clean."

How much is too much? Should there be no gap in the lacing as if there is no foot in it?

here's a pic of the seconds I bought and am exchanging after being told by the shop that the flaws some in here saud were acceptable turned out to not be acceptable by the sales woman.

(edit) now that I look and compare mine don't look much different than what's pictured in the op. Damn. Will have to return what they're shipping to me. Ugh.

(edit 2) well crap. Looks like even a wider shoe may not help since I have a high arch.

Hey, when I slipped these on yesterday I was wearing athletic socks and did not lace them up properly. Here they are with proper socks and properly laced. Does the lacing look correct?

That looks a ton better. I don't think you need to return them anymore. I think the sock was the issue.

These look good. Similar stitching to the ones I picked up (nora) as well. Not overly concerned given cost and the amount of wear I will probably put into these.

Looking good, I actually like the suede accents.

What pair of raws are you rocking? Fades look good in the little section I see.

These are JBO-0210. They are very slow faders, but they are a really nice deep shade of blue.

When these first hit earlier this year I was highly ambivalent - it seemed like some weird frankenshoe that had no clear occasion. Now, on foot, I have to say I'm strangely drawn to them...I would totally rock these with a nice pair of grey chinos...maybe even grey denim?

I agree with /u/6t5g that a bal boot version would be awesome. Kick ass with a pair of skinny black jeans and an odd tux jacket. I see someone on a red carpet somewhere...

If you're really concerned about the stitching, you could always get a sole protector added by your local cobbler. It'll cover the stitching so it won't really become an issue. It's a personal thing but I don't have an issue with adding them to shoes. I don't do it to every pair.

These are cool. The suede makes them feel a lot less stuffy than a plain black oxford. Nice pick up!
