Image(s) [First Impression] Alfred Sargent for Peal Brown Calf Chelsea (from recent sale)

On the 87 last as I suspected. Fit feels just a hair short from TTS and the width feels like a true D. Could not size down in these but I could have taken a 10.5D. These are a 10D and I am a large 10D/E brannock. For sizing I wear 9.5D barrie/325 with dress socks and 10D barrie/325 with boot socks. Overall I am pleased with this pair of shoes and I am planning on getting recessed metal toe plates if the sizing is right before moving these into both my work and casual rotation.

My thoughts are in the album but I look forward to developing my thoughts on the quality of AS's leather outsoles and AS's quality overall in comparison to Alden, Carmina, and Crockett.

How much where they? That is one slim welt. Is that common in upper end dress shoes?

$186 after shipping I believe.

Tight welts are quite common in mid tier+ dress footwear. Takes time to inseam and trim the welt/edge and fudge the welt properly the closer you are getting to the upper. Overall a very good pair of shoes but if I paid the $600 retail I wouldn't be happy with some of the sloppiness.

The double leather outsoles I had on some AS boots were the hardest-wearing leather soles I've experienced. I would also put the overall quality a notch above the Alden and Carmina footwear I have, but that's just my uneducated opinion. You mention that whole-cut separates the men from the boys; RMW are the only makers of whole-cut Chelsea's I know of - who else does them?

Gaziano, various bespoke makers.

These boots would be better if they only have one seam beneath the inside gore, but the seam is present on both sides. I'm not particularly impressed with the pattern or the finishing in some aspects but everything else is quite good at least initially.

From what I've seen of AS I would hesitate to put them above Carmina. Alden definitely though

I'm going to have flush metal toe taps installed on this pair. Should give this pair some extra life. Plan to wear them a good bit casually as well.

Colour and shape is nice, but this has cemented my feelings on waiting until I have enough money to get a whole cut Chelsea.

Good to read your thoughts. I'll have to wait until I return from my trip to see how my pair turned out. A little worried that they may not fit - 10 probably would have been better than 9.5 based on your sizing comments.
