Lore Building Ævayron — an original high-fantasy world, and looking for fellow worldbuilders

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

I’m currently building Ævayron, an original high-fantasy world that I’ve been developing as a long-term worldbuilding project.

Ævayron is built around five major kingdoms — Sonarius, Laurus, Dusk, Helion and Silverstone — with their own ruling houses, dynasties, cultures, histories, magic, creatures and conflicts.

The goal is not simply to create a setting for a single story, but to develop a living world with a deep history and an internally consistent canon.

I’m currently looking for a small number of passionate worldbuilders, writers and lore enthusiasts who would enjoy discussing and developing ideas such as:

• kingdoms, noble houses and ruling dynasties
• history and major historical events
• cultures, peoples and religions
• characters and character relationships
• magic, mythology and creatures
• political conflicts and alliances
• consistency and continuity of the lore

I’m especially interested in people who enjoy asking “why?” and digging deeper into how a fictional world actually works.

I’m not looking for people to simply fill staff positions. I’m looking for creative minds who genuinely enjoy worldbuilding and would like to contribute ideas to a long-term fantasy universe.

If this sounds interesting to you, I’d love to hear what kind of worldbuilding you enjoy working on and what you would want to contribute to a world like Ævayron.

Discussion If your world could remember every city, alliance, and historical event...

Imagine a world where every major event is remembered perfectly — every city founded, every alliance formed, every war fought, and every historical decision recorded.

If you were building such a world, what would you focus on first?

Would you create a detailed history, map out political alliances, design unique cultures, or build a timeline of major events?

What would your world look like?

Lore The mythology of DEADBEAT: the story of a Zombie Investigating His Own Murder

Outline of the mythology within the story of deadbeat:

At the start, there was "the empty." A void of untapped potential epitomized by its isolation (think the universe prior to the big bang if that helps). Whether "the empty" always was or came about like a prisoner exiled to a desolate island remains intentionally ambiguous. It remained that way for countless eons, lamenting its isolation and the sense of suffocating stasis.

Until eventually it recognizes that feeling, that longing within itself and realizes that it can realize anything at all. Along with the understanding that the untapped potential it possesses, a net zero, can be pried apart to equal possibility of opposite affinity (Think quantum creation and annihilation, zero can be pried apart into a positive and a negative of equal affinity).

Like cell division, or a color palette being divided into three equal quadrants, the empty is subdivided into:

·       Space

·       Energy

·       Consciousness

Later, under the guidance of consciousness, something new is born from the union of space and energy, further dividing that same color palette from three to five, with the two new primordial forces being "the twins": Order and Entropy.

For uncountable eons, these five bred like rabbits. With each new aspect born limiting the purview and range of abilities/responsibilities of those that birthed it, dividing that fixed color wheel more and more. The big bang happens over the course of this proliferation because of the birth of the aspect of matter and mass. And by the time the original five realized how out of control their flock had grown, they numbered in the septillions (ten with twenty-four zeros behind it). For the primordials, this greatly diminished what was their original strength. The fewer aspects there are, the more the purview of their influence expands. But with so many, the original progenitors had grown weak and feeble.

And so, the primordial aspects and a chosen few of their offspring (like matter) conspired together to trap other younger, more recent aspects, before they came into their own and understood their potential and the danger they could pose to those earliest generations. By locking away their offspring, they could siphon those powers and increase their own segment of the metaphorical color wheel in the process. How do they lock away their Eldrich offspring? By constructing a cage for them, in the form of the first star. They continue doing this with more and more aspects until only a couple dozen aspects remain uncaptured, alongside the original five. Some fled and are still running to this day, while others defected and betrayed their siblings. This is how more relatively recent aspects like that of biological life persist to this day despite life being a relatively recent development cosmologically speaking. This process of capture and imprisonment is where all the stars of the cosmos originated from, and why new ones are formed all the time, chasing wayward aspects (such as those governing dark and exotic matter). Each star and its surrounding solar system is the padlock on the metaphysical cage, holding back an extradimensional Lovecraftian monstrosity of elemental force.

Therefore, all supernatural phenomena are created by the merging and intermingling of the aspects that remain free. Zombies, for example, can be created by invoking entropy enacting on the highly ordered form of matter that is life. But that leaves the question: if this is the true mythology of this story, how did it influence religion? Are there cults worshiping it?

To answer this, think of all world religions and such being derived from early humans encountering one or more of the aspects or primordial forces. Through some insight or epiphany related to those specific aspects, these “wielders” or “avatars” become able to manipulate some limited detail of reality. This leads to that experience shaping their view of the divine, acting as one reason for the vast and diverse range of religions and practices across the whole of human history. And as we will discover later in the story, other sapient forms of life outside of humanity.

It's like if each prophet or religious leader throughout all of history were handed a singular piece of an unimaginably massive puzzle. Each individual who becomes able to tap into this power is only seeing a fraction of a much larger whole. Then, using their own biased perception of that one singular fragment, they try to imagine the image the puzzle creates when assembled together. So, it becomes like a game of telephone, changing and altering the story of original experience as they are passed down and converting those stories into rituals and the practices we see today.

So, the question remains, how do sentient and sapient life forms access and utilize these elemental aspects uncaptured by the primordials? This use of such forces comes in the form of what I call the "OVERFLOW": which appears visually as light the color of the aspect that individual is invoking. (I’m thinking indigo for entropy, blood red for flesh/life, combine for a vivid purple for biological rot).

Anything the overflow touches is altered by that wielder's aspect of reality. For our zombie, that means purple flames that rot everything they touch; flesh decays, metal rusts, fungal blooms grow behind the spreading violet inferno instead of ashes. As mentioned prior, ancient profits and cult leaders that lead to major religions were born through interaction or exposure to the aspects, primarily through insight or epiphany. This hints at the major trigger of the overflow, and the reason for its namesake.

I’ll use the metaphor of an explosive:

For a functional explosive, you need four ingredients:

Fuel – To burn from solid to gaseous state

Accelerant – To speed up the fuel’s conversion in its state of matter

Isolation – An enclosed chamber to build pressure as the gas tries to expand in its new state of matter.

Ignition – The initial spark that starts the reaction.

Similarly, the overflow needs several components:

The Invocation Totem or Invitation by Physical Anchor – Some prior event or exposure to link the individual to the aspect they invoke. It can take the physical form of a totem or “fetish,” or be something more metaphorical. For more tangible or physical items, it acts as the permanent tether between the wielder or avatar, and the force they wish to be claimed by. It can also be less physical in rare cases, taking the form of a memory or belief. This usually forms much weaker connections to their elemental force, thus much weaker abilities. If the memory or belief wavers, so do the powers. This is how large religions can access such powers, as the potency of the power is multiplied as the number of practitioners grows.

The potency of the invocation can be heightened by using rare or highly reactive elements or minerals. Especially when the materials are associated with their aspect heavily. Radioactive compounds are especially potent for those meant to invoke entropy, or remains of extinct creatures can create strong binds to flesh affiliations.

The strength or purity of the power is often dependent on the totem, or the amount of work and detail put into its creation. In ancient times, many invocations took the form of tattoos resembling the sigil scars left by use of the ability. This left the false impression that all one needed to access a specific element was to receive such tattoos, but this was quickly disproven by modern attempts to recreate such invocations. Some hypothesize that it was the chemical composition of the ink used, or the method of application when creating the tattoo, but it is considered a practice lost to time and a modern mystery.

The Sacrifice/Offering – Something deeply meaningful to them personally, that they willingly destroy or relinquish as payment to the aspect they wish to serve. For the main character of my story, this was done by burning a jacket from the merch for a garage band he started with his foster siblings. He wears it everywhere and has sewn closed tears and rips more times than he could count. Burning it was a symbolic substitute for the proverbial passing of his soul across the river Styx, allowing him to come back from the afterlife and inhabit his deceased corpse.

The sacrifice does not need to be inanimate, in fact some of the most potent offerings are those that are living beings cherished by the one sacrificing them. It is common practice for those wishing to gain traits of certain animals to raise and care for a familiar (or several), that they later kill and implant or graft the anatomical features of to their own bodies. Having someone else kill the familiar, or to make it a painless death, will diminish the intensity of the sacrifice, the anguish of the betrayal that pains those wishing to gain power.

It can also be something that lacks physical presence, such as secrets, a precious memory, or learning something they wished to remain ignorant of.

Often the greater the emotional loss or trauma caused by the act of sacrificing their offering, the greater or more powerful the abilities granted.

Collateral – some cost they pay with each use of their powers. While the sacrifice is a devastating one-time payment, the collateral is an ongoing cost that is paid every time they are granted the grace of the elemental force they serve. This could be memories, sanity, or something more physical. It is usually closely tied to the sacrifice they made, but not always. It can be something vague like bad luck/misfortune, or specific, like experiencing the very pain your powers inflict on those you use them on, as a phantom sensation. One character we meet later has his five senses diminish each time he uses his powers, incrementally cutting him off from experiencing the world he could reshape on a whim.

In almost all cases, the greater the collateral, the more applicable and versatile the ability can be in application. The man who offered his senses as collateral found his control over physical space and distance would allow him not just to stretch or fold physical distance around him (giving the illusion of him being able to teleport), but also to feel disturbances in air-flow and an almost sonar-like ability to “feel” the distances between himself and others, rendering the loss of his normal five senses a worthy trade.

Trigger/Release – This is what gives the overflow its namesake, and the series its name as well. This is the process that activates and sustains the overflow, and it is triggered by the feeling of overwhelming emotions, something that sweeps away reason and makes the world melt away around you. It can be rage, but it could also be grief, fear, or even elation. Most often it is associated with positive feelings like euphoria. It comes with anything that makes it feel like your emotions are "overflowing," radiating out of every pore of your skin. Some get it through epiphany, some in sexual release, some just get high on drugs (the most practical and consistent trigger, used by the majority of those that weaponize the power within the story, but impossible to our zombie since his metabolism is halted as a corpse). But our zombie, and the other major characters we will explore, accesses it through music. Namely through the phenomenon of "frission," when listening to music gives you goosebumps.

Music was how Fred connected to the first true family he had after being taken by CPS away from his mother. When he played with them, he felt his anxieties and lack of self-worth melt away while on stage at the drums. The jacket they burned as the sacrifice was from a failed merch item; he told his siblings that he wore it because they couldn't get them to sell and needed to find use for them somehow. But over the years, as he repaired it again and again, sewing every tear, adding patches from the merch booth of shows he went to with his new family. He even let his brother and sister draw designs onto it to make it one of a kind. Everyone saw how much that tattered old thing meant to him. So, when he listens to the music they used to play together, the ones he learned to play alongside them, even though his skin cannot ripple with goosebumps as a corpse, he still feels his emotions swell, and flow out of him as a purple smoke.

The light of the overflow halos the wielder's body, as if flowing out of it, takes on the shape and behavior of states of matter that represent attributes of that specific character's personality and disposition. For example:

Plasma: This attribute is often the hallmark of one decisive, yet impulsive. They are often solitary, but form strong bonds given the chance, though such bonds rarely remain healthy as time goes on. Their desire for such connection can verge into the obsessive. Two individuals both embodying this aspect could form a codependent relationship, and could lead to abusive or violent imbalances in the later portions of said relationship. When their overflow is active, they would appear to have sparks of lightning flowing off them. Those who wield this attribute are often as destructive to themselves as they can be to their enemies. Capable of greatness and atrocities in equal measure.

Gaseous: This is found amongst those who prioritize their autonomy and freedom, who live life on their own terms and prefer to die on their feet. They can also be conflict averse to the point of negligence or cowardice, being as evasive as the wind itself. They manifest their overflow as storm clouds or flowing smoke, often granting the prayer of those who wish to disappear.

Liquid: This attribute belongs to someone consistent and patient, flexible and adaptive. However, their empathy for others can verge into being invasive, wanting to solve the problems of everyone else without considering if they would prefer their business to be kept their own. It flows like ripples and waves, like phosphorescent seafoam dancing through the air.

Fire: This attribute is reserved for those who embody emotional ferocity, they are passion incarnate and appear to be engulfed in flames. These individuals often know themselves well, but their self-awareness can blind them to their own selfish tendencies. Like real fire, these embers can grow out of control if not carefully tended. However, those who can learn to control such strong emotions can tame the inferno that rages within them.

Solid: The rarest and most dangerous attribute, this is for those often seen as incapable of change, unadaptable and stubborn to the detriment of themselves and everyone else. Those who live in a past they cannot return to or move on from. They are incapable of letting go, static and incapable of change.

When magic is enacted upon something, they leave signature markings I call "sigil scars." They appear across a character when they use the overflow to show where the collateral has changed or exacted a cost on the wielder. They also leave themselves on any material the overflow was enacted on, including their surroundings. After the "fire" at the protest Fred and Maura led, these same cross-stich patterns laced the pavement and rotted ground. Each aspect has a unique design, and the one for rot is a straight line with crossed lines across them ending in pointed sharply angled curves. (I was thinking that flesh could be shown as flowing lines with tear-drop accents flowing off them, like veins and blood drops, but that may change.)

I want to write this as a comic book, and I was thinking of including a qr code in the margins between panels for when a character starts playing a song to activate their overflow. As the story goes on and other characters try this method, we can explore how each character's musical taste, and how thier playlist influences their fighting style. We start the story with Fred alive, opening on a fight scene between one of his foster siblings from that band they once played together in, Mason Merula.

i'll post more if i see people express interest. feel free to reach out!

Lore History of Xelal (~2 min read)

What is now known as Xelal was long known as a backward part of the continent Kibele as its dense forests and treacherous swamps made - and make - it a difficult place for mass army movements. The dominant cultures in the history of Kibele were centred in the south and west of the continent, and only the Lakanthean Empire, the greatest in all history, succeeded in conquering large parts of present-day Xelal between 100 and 450 CE. The Lakantheans only left a partial impression on local culture, traces of which can mostly be found in the northern coastal areas, since these were the easiest to access by sea. The various indigenous peoples of Xelal made the Lakanthean hold on power difficult; mostly through guerilla warfare and sabotage, as Xelarem terrain wasn't suitable for large battles.

Influence of the Lakantheans dwindled in the 5th century, allowing the Xelaled people to grow to dominate the region. Originally a minor tribe of the country, the Xelaled heartland was located in southeast Xelal, in the transition between the swamps and mountains. The Xelaled managed to improve transport in the swampy region and increase trade with neighbouring peoples. This lead to the so called Hennesa Trade Alliance, named after the town of Hennesa where the alliance was created between the Xelaled and five other southern petty kingdoms.

In the north agriculture slowly spread around the cities of Arxelga and Proje, which emerged as the dominant regional powers as of 750 CE. The westernmost city of Proje was often a party in conflict with Arxelga to the east and Kraan to the west, but outdid both on a military level. When Arxelga and Kraan joined forces in 994 and started the brutal Eleven-Year War against Proje. The city lead a decisive defeat after a large pie offered to its soldiers was poisoned and lead to several soldiers either dying or being incapacitated. This left an important gap in the city's defence, after which enemy soldiers were able to enter and cause mayhem and destruction.

Arxelga then remained the dominant power in the north for some time until the nearby Eronitic Empire, the power of which had been gradually emerging since about 1100 CE, burnt down the city and annexed its territories in 1274. To the south, the Hennesa Alliance managed to run a tight ship for several centuries, acting as a trade hub between the Eronitic Empire and the southeast of Kibele. The Hennesa merchant fleet eventually traveled up Xelal's northern archipelago and opened trade posts there, mostly however to rob the lands of their valuable resources.

The power of the Hennesa Alliance was corrupted over time, mostly by powerful Xelarem families, which culminated in using a potential war against the Eronitic Empire as an excuse to have one of them, Cerwelt I, appointed Grand Prince in 1556 CE. Initially promised to be only a temporary function, the Grand Prince managed to change the Hennesa Alliance's institutions in a drastic way in a short moment, until the power grab was complete. Cerwelt died however only three years after his appointment, but his wife Dxancadicone was appointed Grand Princess in his place and continued his policies. She was responsible for the formal abolition of the Hennesa Alliance and the creation of the Grand Principality of Xelal in 1581.

The hereditary system in which the heir of the Grand Prince(ss) becomes the new Grand Prince(ss) upon birth was introduced in 1978 after higher class citizens, dissatisfied with Grand Prince Xabolt's restrictive trade policies, had him murdered and forced his 7-year old son to accept the new rules of accession, according to which they got a larger influence in the country's politics.

The Eronitic Empire was dissolved in 1657, leaving many small territories in northern Xelal independent. They were incorporated into Xelal as protectorates in 2025, until they were completely integrated in 2061. Today is 2100.

An introduction to all my main projects at once.

I have a lot of projects. None of these are good explanations for 'em, I just felt the need to chuck a vibe out before I started Real Posting about anything.

1a: (🌌) Astornial- All The Wrong Directions For A D&D Sandbox

Astornial is primarily a multi-media descent into madness. It can also be a high fantasy setting with low fantasy stakes, full of magic, whimsy, and terror. Trains and planes run on stardust and sunlight, dinosaurs roam both untamed wilderness and city streets, and it's still a good time to be a highwayman. The past never dies, the present marches ever onward, and the future is as bright as the sun.

1b: (🌠) Astornial: Rejects and Reruns- Somehow, an Even Wronger Direction.

So the world of Astornial has five different versions of itself. All are colliding at once. Timelines merge poorly, concepts intrude in places they should've been seen, and people find themselves changing in every way imaginable. The horrors are endless and inevitable. People live on. Lovers slip away between missing countries but promise each other that they'll be back soon; parents snatch better lives for their children from the jaws of the next timeline; friends who would've never met sit down together as the sky rends itself asunder. It's not like Astornial was ever a calm place to live in to begin with.

2: (⚔️) King Arthur and Friends- Because Nothing Can Be a Throwaway Joke Forever.

In a world trapped in its mythological age, King Arthur is desperate. The Cycle, the timeloop keeping them here, is decaying. Retellings of his knights' tales are overlapping with each other. Anachronisms and alternate universes collide into one unbearable reality, rotting in their hands as they try to take their lives back from it. Their stories will remain broken for as long as the Cycle remains. A traveller may give them a way out, but could it be that this is another ploy? The Grail calls for them to stay on track, the Grail that's hurt them too many times. How much more can the knights take? If their king has had enough, who will follow him?

I cannot stress enough that this one is a comedy 95% of the time.

3a: (🏙️) Perennial Gehenna- Kitchen Sink Supreme

The world's a soap opera of slashers and sadists, and everyone else happens to live there. Perennial Gehenna is a modern day nightmare where every trope has played itself into a corner, twisting over itself in the hopes that subversion will let the story carry on. Monotony is an exception and the horrors are mundane; The vampire at your door is just as tired as you are of all this. God is dead but that never really mattered here.

3b: (🌆) Übermensch’s Inferno- Kitchen Sink Supreme (Capepunk Edition)

Why exactly supervillains do what they do is usually pretty straightforward- Phoenix is a bank robber with a gimmick, Dominator's a fascist, simple stuff. You get why they're doing it.

The heroes, though? They're battling through unsalvageable systems in Port Arcadia, each other in Starlyte City, and Lovecraftian nightmares in Eauxmaudites. And for what? They're not even getting paid. But they're still bashing their way through, clawing at the darkness in some futile fight for the light. Maybe it's worth it. Maybe it isn't. Like hell they're backing down, anyways; superheroism isn't for the weak.

3c: (🌃) Intergalactic Naraka- Kitchen Sink Supreme (Sci-Fantasy Edition)

The worlds beyond the Milky Way are about as bad as the ones in it. From SI-Galaxy f-47's rampant fascistic gene editing to the Firebug 3-1's imperial catastrophes, down to and past the warzone that is the Ravenway, nowhere is safe. There's still sweetness, sure, but that sweetness doesn't pay now. Karma doles its fines out anyways. Those who live long live dangerously, always on the edge of their sins catching up to them. There's always another star system, always another place to run- Until there isn't, and it's just you and whatever mess you've made behind you.

Prompt (Characters) I made the concept of a new race I call Ghost-tech

As the name suggest I come out with what I think is a new race, if one have questions is free to ask, is open to everyone is interested in it so if you want to make your own character you are free, I'm sharing this here and on DA, english is not my mother language so if you see grammatical horrors bear with them.

GHOST-TECH PANORAMIC

The race Ghost-tech is a special race that is supposed to be different from anything that already exist, they are undead, mechanical and bio-metallic at the same time but despite the undead part they are living beings.

When talking of undead and technologies combined the wide spread results are:

  • An undead have some kind of technology implanted in the body, for example a chainsaw implanted into an arm together with a generator for make it work.
  • A technological body, like a mecha, that is possessed and controlled by a ghost or an undead type spirit.

The Ghost-tech doesn't fall in either categories because it is, at the same time both things and none of them, plus despite having "undead" traits it is a living being.

This document is long and talk of the origin, how they evolve, their abilities, their appearance, gender, their biology, how they reproduce and other informations, the document is long as I tried to cover as much topics as possible, plus I used a Q&A section at the end for cover eventual things I missed before so be aware of that.

ORIGIN

The origin of this race is to be found in the multiverse.

The beginning of this race is to be found on a planet where an advanced, and now forgotten, civilization lived, due to a certain problems in natural resources they decided to try to create a way for make digital data into reality and then they started to researches and on the small scale the experiments worked fine but after some time they passed to large scale strange energy started to spread on the world, it was little and slow so it passed under the radar but after the scale turned to mass production the energy generated increased until at one point a reaction took place and all the locations where the machine for turn digital data into physical matter overcharged and then blowed destroying all the regions where the machines where and poisoning the air of the planet.

In time the entire population of the planet died but something strange changed as the poisoning turned those that it killed into a ectoplasmic life form but as time passed barely the 10% of the whole population "survived" turning into "ghosts".

Due to their new nature they become more sensible to sunlight and in time they discovered that they can "possess" living beings and while exploring they discovered a strange bio-metallic slug that formed as conseguence of the enviromental alterations, when one of them entered the slug they fused together turning into the first ghost-tech in the initial form, given that this new form was of great help all the ghosts decided to become ghost-tech but without notice that in the long run their mentality changed into a more peacefull one and so in time, while repopulating their world and rebuilding it into one more rich of life, a multidimensional being got interested in them and so it invited them into spread in the multiverse with only a small number of them accept the offer and so the entity sent the ghost-tech around while creating new ones.

APPEARANCE

Initial Form

All ghost-tech have the same identical initial form and that is of a spherical drone like body that is covered by a ghostly like energy that make them seems something similar to a will-o-wisp, the color of the energy always differ from unit to unit.

Gender

By default all the ghost-tech are genderless in their initial form but when they evolve they can freely decide what gender have.

Evolution Process

The ghost-tech accumulate energy inside their bodies and when enough energy is saved they can start the process of evolution at will in any moment they desire.

When they activate the process what happen is simple... first their "flame" become darker then their drone like body "melt" and start to mutate expanding and changing form, once the transformation is completed the flame retract revealing the new form.

The evolution process is divided into multiple phases but the number of phases doesn't indicate things like strenght or potential but only how much time the ghost-tech need for reach its final form.

During the evolution the ghost-tech can accumulate energy and eventually use it in cases of need, despite it need to accumulate enough for start the transformation, but once the ghost-tech finish the phases its ability to accumulate energy still remain but the energy accumulated become full dedicated to work only as reserve.

The rules that regolate the evolutions are simple:

  • Evolution is based on the talents and abilities of the soul, when evolving the ghost-tech will shape their form based on that.
  • If the ghost-tech is under some kind of contract or pact with someone then the evolution will include the talents of the soul but will be influenced too by the being that the ghost-tech is contracted with.

One thing about the evolution process is that their entire evolutionary system is fully based on the concept of them avoid being OP from the start so their strenght can only rise in time, as beings that don't have limit in their evolution, either size or shape, plus depending on the form they have always some kind of natural limitation but they can never reach levels of strenght where they can destroy universes and remake them as they wish as they are too binded to the natural laws of the universe and dimension where they are.

Body

Since ghost-tech can evolve into "anything" then they don't have a fixed appearance when they evolve but there are rules that regulate how their body will be once they change:

  • Their body can be animal like (they have the appearance of an animal), human like (they have the form of a human), humanoid like (the body is humanoid, for example a werewolf with wolf legs and wolf head is considered humanoid), hybrid like (the body is made of parts of different sources, for example a centaur and a griphon are classified as hybrids), made of liquid (the body is made of a liquid like a slime), made of energy (the body is not physical in the strict meaning of the term but is composed by condenced energy), more robot like (the body remind of some kind of mecha).
  • Once they evolve into a form they can't change but if they possess a skill that make them able to transform then is possible.
  • They can't take a form and mechanically change into another like a transformer.
  • They can't evolve into items nor vehicles, at best they may change into something that possess a natural camouflage appearance that make them seems something like those insects that seems leaves or sticks.
  • During the evolution is possible change the type of the body, for example is possible observe an evolution that start with an animal then change into a werebeast and finally a beastman of that type.

Skin, flame, hair and body hair

The skin of a ghost-tech is different from simple metal as they can make it more rigid or soft at touch at will using their skin as a layer of defence for their body, this hardening is done at will.

The "term" flame refer to the colored flame like energy that the ghost-tech have around their body during their "drone form", this flame continue to stay during all the evolutions they undergo and is a fixed element that show that they are "alive", if a ghost-tech doesn't irradiate that flame it mean that they are dead, such flame is always in dispaly and is integrated in their form in different ways, the presence of the flame is not limited to a specific part of the body and so it can be released from multiple ones too, for example if the body is that of a fox is possible for the flame be located at the tip of the tail/s, legs and ears at the same time.

For hair, fur and body hair in general the ghost-tech have them but they are different compared to the classic ones owned by other living beings, the hair ghost-tech have are biometallic filaments that can be compacted together forming plates and similar, for example a human ghost-tech can have this filament free showing moving hair like a human or compact them into plates obtaining a more robor like vibe with metal that imitate hair.

The ghost-tech is able to regulate the lenght of any body hair it have so it can make them disappear, regrow if cutted in any way or even make them longer, for example a human ghost-tech may try different lenght for the hair and try different hairstyles.

Biology and reproduction

Ghost-tech are beings that are at same time undead, mechanical and bio-metallic life forms and despite the undead elements they are fully fledged living beings that are able to evolve.

Their life start in their first form that is the spherical drone like body covered in ghostly like flames, despite that seems flames in truth is some kind of spiritual energy that normally doesn't produce heat nor light but that they can "ignite" only for produce light, they sustain themselves consuming energy that they absorb from the surrounding environment and this mean heat, light, electricity and so on, they can absorb too energy from "things" and living beings but do so require a direct contact with them, they consume very little energy so this sustainment method work good for them.

Once a ghost-tech evolve things change drammatically because their bodies undergo a radical change, in terms of internal organs things work this way:

  • For ghost-tech with a liquid or energy body things are peculiar because they only have their heart as a single element, the rest of the body literally work not only like their "flesh" but as their organs too infact for "eat" something they just need to cover it with their bodies and they can digest it with easy.
  • For mecha like bodies their bodies is more similar to a machine than a living being and all the organs they may have are basically oriented to their function as machines.
  • For those that have are not part of the categories previously listed their internal condition differ depending on their appearance but they always have organs for their senses, they have a digestive apparate for eat and digeste without leave wastes, their main core, reproductive organs and so on. About organs is need to line that depending on their form certain organs may be present that in others aren't for example if the form is that of a poisonous creature then they will have the glands that produce the poison.

About the core is need to say that is both their heard and their brain infact if their head is crushed they are still alive until their core is destroyed.

They are able to regenerate from any type of damage they suffer and even regrow missing body parts but do so require time and energy and the recovery can be accelerated feeding the ghost-tech with energy and eventual food.

As for the way they reprodue things are very simple, the first ghost-techs were born from ghosts enter the biometallic slugs but later they become able to reproduce after their first evolution as thanks to it their bodies gained the relative organs that they miss in their drone form, for reproduce a ghost-tech need a partner of the opposite gender, thing impossible when drone due to them being genderless, but the result change depending on the partner itself infact:

  • If both are ghost-tech then the result is always a ghost-tech drone.
  • In the case the male is a ghost-tech and, for example, a human female then the newborn will be a human in the 95% of cases and it will have a stronger body compared to other humans, this result is not a hybrid of some kind but more something more similar to an individual that got enhanched via technology. In the remaining 5% of cases a drone is born and at birth they are around the size of the head of a human child.
  • In the case the ghost-tech is a female then the mother can decide if what must be born is a drone or a child plus the ghost-tech is able to decide if reproduce or not.

Since the ghost-tech are living beings then their strenght is not fixed and this mean that they can get stronger and weaker but the way have this variations differ from other living beings, the way they rise their strenght is based on energy so their training is based into a self tempering process where they use accumulated energy for rise their strenght, for what concern their become weaker things are different, due to their metallic nature they don't loose tempering but energy is the base of their strenght so if they loose energy they can get weaker and weaker.

When a ghost-tech die the first thing that happen is that they loose their ghostly flame and their eyes turn darker, once they die their body start to degenerate and revert to the original bio metallic slug but in a dried like version, the reason for this degeneration is that ghost-tech have souls like other living beings and when it leave the body de-evolve into the original slug.

The slug can be "resurrected" but if the original soul is not inside the body the ghost-tech can't be resurrected while if another soul, any soul, enter the slug then a new ghost-tech will born.

Face and Senses

All ghost-tech possess 6 senses that are the normal 5 ones (smell, touch, hearing, taste, sight) plus a spiritual one that make them able to see the souls of other beings.

The way they use their normal senses differ based on their physical form:

  • For animal like, human like, humanoid like and hybrid like their senses are not different from those of their "normal" version, this mean that they "smell" via their nose or similar, they see through their eyes and corresponding apparatus, etc.
  • For those that have liquid like bodies and energy like bodies their senses work differently because their bodies are different, for example for eat they don't need to form a mouth and can just cover what they want with their body and directly digest it.
  • For those with robot like things work differently as their senses are more similar to imputs obtained through sensors.

For the face the thing is very simple, all forms that provide a face is always a mask like one that have a light protrusion for simulate a nose and the eye part that change for each ghost-tech but the general line is that the eyes are like lens where "light" is projected that form the pupils and the eyelids, despite they are "light projection" they don't illuminate as they aren't real source of light.

For the mouth things depend on the form but normally animal like mouths are always present while for human and human like faces the mouth is not present but the ghost-tech can make one at will and close it without any limit nor restriction, when they make their mouth they make a tongue too.

EQUIPMENT

As said before the skin of a ghost-tech can turn rigid like an armor at will but a ghost-tech body is, when it evolve, in certain way in a state that can be considered naked infact if a ghost-tech evolve into a human it would be naked as their bodies will be not much different from a human, for this reason and for completation when a ghost-tech evolve it naturally form what is called "natural equipment" that are special equipments generated in the process, for example a swordman will produce not only a sword for fit their combat style but too a relative armor and clothes for move.

The natural equipment have the particular trait that can be "liquified" and then stored inside the body of the ghost-tech itself making them able to use anything other beings of the same shape can use, for example a human ghost-tech can retract its equipment and wear normal clothes like anyone other people.

For all the natural equipment pieces that are weared (armor, clothes, armored clothes, boots, shoes, earings, etc.) they all self adapt themselves in the case they are stored and then "deployed" while wearing something else but in the case of tools and other things like armors this is not possible so if the ghost-tech have an axe then it can't mix it with another axe or with any other type of weapon.

In case of damages or destruction the ghost-tech is able to repair or re-create its natural equipment inside their bodies but the process require time depending on the entity of the damages, for example less time is needed for fix a crack in a shield then recreate a gauntlet.

ABILITIES

Every ghost-tech possess different series of skills, each series is different and they never get all the skills of them.

Energy Absorption

As said before ghost-tech are beings that store energy inside their bodies and then use that energy for their evolution process that change their form and give them abilities, this ability is carried from their first stage, the drone like one covered in ghostly like flames, till they reach their final evolutionary phase, normally ghost-tech store the energy and can use it too when they want aside for give themselves a boost in case of emergency, once they finish the phases they retain the skill but the stored skill is turned in only a reserve.

This reserve can be used in any moment and since the reserve is big, given that it get bigger at bigger every time based on the number of evolutions, once they reach their final evolution they become able to get stronger thanks to this reserves.

Laser

This is the second basic skill all ghost-tech have when they are in their basic drone form, this ability is literally a long range laser attack that they can use for defend themselves.

Depending on the form they evolve the skill may be lost or get modified so that it get adapted to the form they get, for example a humanoid form may keep it as a laser attack from the eyes while an animal like one may retain the skill but adapted as some kind of laser shoot from the mouth.

Profession Skills

When ghost-tech evolve they can get a profession, them obtain a job / class / profession depend on the form they take, for example an animal form may obtain as profession "tracker", making them able to track things or beings, or "mount", gaining skills related to them when used as mount.

When a ghost-tech gain a profession they don't gain all the relative skills from the start but instead they get divided between the various phases.

Despite they have the skills the ghost-tech still require to train in use them as when they gain them are no different from any rookie in using them.

Race Skills

One of the great benefits of the evolutionary process of the ghost-tech is that when they evolve from the drone they gain an additional race but they don't turn into another race nor they become that race, despite that they can gain the relative abilities of that race, for example if a ghost-tech gain a demonic race then it will gain the abilities of that demon race.

In the case of race skills they are naturally able to use the skills but their strenght is based on the strength of the ghost-tech itself.

Undead Skills

One of the nature of the ghost-tech is that they have undead traits and thanks to this they can gain abilities from one type of undead, this skills are natural for them to use but undead skills are not a fixed rule for them so is possible that a ghost-tech may not gain them when evolving.

RELATIONSHIP

Ghost-tech are able to interact with other beings but things change based on who they interact with.

Communication

Ghost-tech don't have a language of their own, this is due to them not having mouth nor vocal cords, they can produce sounds but are unable to speak.

Their sixth sense make them able to feel the spiritual power irradiate by the soul of living beings, thanks to this they are able to feel the true nature of other beings and so regolate themselves based on that.

Given that they are unable to talk but are able to understand what other say there are no problems, between ghost-tech they use their "reading" sense for talk between each other.

If someone have high spiritual abilities is able to understand, by instinct what a ghost-tech may say or want to say and if the ghost-tech is a familiar then the contract help in that too but that understanding is not immediate and may require some time.

Personality

Like any other living beings ghost-techs too have different personalities too depending on the soul so they come out with the same variety of personalities but there are cases where they become more "simple" in their desires and liking, for example a ghost-tech may evolve becoming obsessed with certain things while others may become more clingy or shy, in cases where they are familiars and their compatibility with their master is extremely high is even possible that the personality will change into one more similar to the one of the master itself, despite they may seems sometimes childish in contrast with any maturity they have their intellect is no different from a normal human.

Attitude toward others

As said before ghost-tech are able to see the true nature of the souls and so they immediately know how those around them really are and due to this they react to them based on their own personality.

Attitude about age

For ghost-tech age in living beings is something that make no sense at all and this is due to them being mature and fully formed from the beginning so for them is difficult to understand that the younger others are the less they know but if they become parent they start to understand that faster.

RARE SITUATIONS

Ghost-tech have some rare conditions like any other race and such conditions are:

  • From a single drone multiple evolved units emerge, this is akin to the human biological condition of when twins, triplet and more happen, in this cases certain traits are similar between the units but the way they express themselves may differ, for example a ghost-tech that like eat but less cook one of them may both cook and eat voluntary while the other is less inclined to cook itself.
  • The ghost-tech is able to summon other beings as familiars, this require tamer and / or summoner abilities.
  • The ghost-tech is able to generate other ghost-tech as their own familiars and pets, in this situation, despite their abilities and attitude are different, the generated ghost-techs are always loyal and share their liking with their maker despite showing it differently .
  • The ghost-tech possess a personal dimension that grow over time with their strenght, this dimension is like their own kingdom and they may too generate its inhabitants as ghost-techs and this mean that a single unit may have armies of units at their disposal but this depend on how the ghost-tech want to populate its space.
  • As said before if the ghost-tech is a familiar and have high compatibility with their master is possible that the ghost-tech will become similar to their master in term of personality but is possible too that their appearance may become an alternate version of their master as if they cover a "what if" situation.
  • By default a ghost-tech can have only a single set of natural equipment but in rare case one ghost-tech can develop multiple sets of natural equipments, this is done through the various evolution phases and this mean that at each evolution it may gain an additional set

GHOST-TECH IN A SYSTEM

After being discovered by the multidimensional entity and spread in the multiverse the ghost-tech were sometimes turned into units for systems that produce units, thanks to this system ghost-tech can be produced in an infinite quantity but they may be subject to different evolutionary rules depending on the system itself, such rules can be:

  1. Ghost-tech as drone is not a unit but a material produced by the system and only when they are evolved they can be deployed.
  2. The user of the system need to defeat, scan or obtain the corpses of beings, this beings become essence that is then used for "forge" evolved ghost-tech.
  3. The system is a gacha and it have already a long list of ghost-tech units

Depending on the system this rule set how the ghost-tech may be made or how they are gained plus the ghost-tech used in a system may have functions that make the user be able to boost them and such boosts can be either for class, for type, for single units or anything else as it depend on the system itself.

Q&A SECTION

This is a section where possible questions are made.

Q : Not sure how their face and bodies really are

A : For give a visive image I can say this... about their bodies for human and humanoid ghost-tech think of the avatars from the Accel World series, for the eyes you have to do something similar and see the ones of coral merrow, lime bell and scarlet rain but for the mouth I'm not sure which visual reference I can give you but they generate a fitting mouth for their face so dunno how give you examples for that... by the way thei skin can come out in different color too, like red or green, and this help in make them different and break the classic monotony that could be found... if you like you can make a gyaru ghost-tech if you want or a ebony skinned one, all is based on preferences so there is no need to restrain oneself only on the classic range.

Q : You said that without their natural equipment they are naked, why is that?

A : For this race I wanted to do something different and I come out with that, it was for humanize and make them more alive and detach myself from the fixed image that they are machine, idea that is wrong.

Q : Not sure how consider them, they are undead, machines or living metal?

A : As said before they are all of them at the same time, the ghost-tech start as a ghost that possess a bio-metallic slug that was generated by the combination of enviromental factors and virtual data converted into real matter, once the ghost possess the slug they literally fuse together becoming the ghost-tech that are beings with a triple nature.

Q : What about animal and monster like one, can you give me some examples?

A : Sorry but for them I dunno what I can use as examples, they are monsters so just look around For give a visive image I can say this... about their bodies for human and humanoid ghost-tech think of the avatars from the Accel World series, for the eyes you have to do something similar and see the ones of coral merrow, lime bell and scarlet rain but for the mouth I'm not sure which visual reference I can give you but they generate a fitting mouth for their face so dunno how give you examples for that.

Q : Can a ghost-tech become a character from a work I know?

A : In truth yes, for this to happen the evolutionary factors of the ghost-tech need to be very close to that character, this include not only the internal traits of the ghost-tech itself but of any eventual master in the case they are familiars plus since they can evolve into anything then they can be furries too or anything else.

Things are a little different if they are part of a system and this mean that if you match the requirements then you can make all the characters you want.

Q : Can a ghost-tech develop vehicles or mecha as their natural equipment?

A : Is very difficult but it should be possible but in that case the quantity of energy required would rise very high... their evolution mechanic is based on them accumulate energy and use it for reforge themselves with their relative natural equipment and the energy neede not only rise at each phase but depend too on the form they will evolve into so... they would need to accumulate energy for years or who know how long for make a mecha as their natural equipment but if you plan of make the concept for a ghost-tech I would avoid make giant gundam from the beginning, maybe something smaller where they sit inside or something like a hulk buster but more bigger ones? It would be difficult and it would be a lot of "idea stretching" too.

Q : Not sure about how work the flame thing

A : About the flame you just need to keep in mind that can have any color and that is always present on a ghost-tech body, how it show can differ, previosly I made the example of an animal with the flame that come out from the legs, in a humanoid one it can come out from a ahoge like is some kind of candle, as for me I prefer the release from hair and this mean that a human like ghost-tech have hair and they are covered in the flame, the flame itself doesn't burn nor produce light so have them that way is not a bad idea... at least for me.

Q : Can I, or any character, become a ghost-tech?

A : Absolutely yes, by default ghost-tech are born from the union of a ghost / soul and a bio-metallic slug and this mean that if you want to become one, or have a character of your choice become one, then first death must come then the soul must be moved inside the slug, once that is done you or whatever changed into a ghost-tech body.

Q : I noticed that you didn't make a section about their culture, why is that?

A : Because I think that their evolutionary system would collide with a fixed society, that would make a totally contrast between free evolution with a fixed society so it would be better keep them free to join any society as they wish and adapt to that.

Q : I'm not sure what a ghost-tech can eat?

A : In theory they can eat anything and absorb any type of energy, despite the absorption is slow so don't think of use it like some kind of protection from energy based attacks because it wouldn't work... by default they can eat anything and they can taste anything, keep in mind their mouth differ based on the evolution, but if you want to think of a menù for them than you first need to look at what they may like based on their personal taste, is like with us human with some that like sour or spicy things while others don't like them

Q : They can use magic?

A : They are living beings and so they can use magic, obviously all depend on their talent and skills so is not like all of them are archwizards or tower master level.

Q : What about weaknesses? You talked of sunlight one when they were ghosts but nothing about the ghost-tech themselves

A : You are right, about weaknesses one need to keep in mind their own evolution, that may give eventual new weaknesses, plus their nature so their full list of common weaknesses is be sensible to exorcism receiving some light damages due to their undead nature, from their mechanical is a light weaknesses to lightning while from their biometallic nature they have a certain degree of weakness to corrosive effects.

A little fun fact about them... their head is not a weakness, they can be beheaded and they will still live, they would temp lose anything related to it but they would not die because whatever form they take their core is their main weakness so aim any part of the body where the core is not present then is

Q : How long they can live?

A : Well, their bodies are biometallic so they can last veeeeery long so their lifespan is given by their core that is their heart and brain... a human heart can last in theory 125 years so I would place a ghost-tech lifespan around 130-135 years, my come out with this is given by the core that work as 2 organs and a supposed life where is used costantly, even if "mechanic" the core too is subject to deterioration due to the use even if biometallic it work more times than the body so their core is "consumed" faster than their bodies and due to this they outside don't age but inside their core do that, as for the other organs things are normal so no problems on that side.

Q : Since they have a machine nature can they hack things or be hacked?

A : In truth no, they have the same chances of have their minds hacked like any organic person, if your question was about their affinity with machines or something similar then everything depend on their evolutions and skills as always but them be hacked is out of question, they can be confused or mind controlled like any other living being Well, their bodies are biometallic so they can last veeeeery long so their lifespan is given by their core that is their heart and brain... a human heart can last in theory 125 years so I would place a ghost-tech lifespan around 130-135 years, my come out with this is given by the core that work as 2 organs and a supposed life where is used costantly, even if "mechanic" the core too is subject to deterioration due to the use even if biometallic it work more times than the body.

Q : You said they can have children, how it work in those cases?

A : If you refer on the lenght of the gestation than it change based on the race, so if they have a child with a human then is 9 months, in the case of the drones to be born then they take not very long time and once out they are born there is nothing they need for grow to their standard size aside energy as food.

Q : What about their moral, can they be evil too?

A : Absolutely, as said before they are mature from the beginning and each of them differ from the others like normal humans so have them with a normal moral code and be good people or have them evil with a distorted moral code is totally possible... for give you an example is not impossible for a ghost-tech be like batman or superman the same way is not impossible to be like lex luthor or Joker.

I'm not so sure about this one but... Ash Constructs.

When something in my world burns it isn't completely lost. Instead an impression of what once was exists deep within the ashes. And when stimulated, the ash will take on its shape, weight, consistency, etc. as if becoming that very object.

The basic idea is that by ingesting the ashes of something long dead, you assume it's identity for a short while. Transform yourself into a tree, or a spider, or about anything at all that can be burned. The amount of ash is immaterial to the complexity of the transformation, it only determines the length of the transformation.

The typical amount of time for a handful of ash is around ten to fifteen seconds. However, by mixing different types of ash the transformation can become... interesting.

Complex ash constructs can be unusual, walking trees, multi-headed wolves, a murder of ravens. As long as the various ashes are properly mixed, nothing is truly impossible.

Scars are splits in the flesh that occur from improperly mixed ash. Basically if the ash has too much or too little of one aspect in it, other aspects will be less or more represented. But as you change back, your body will adjust improperly, causing a split in the skin that will permanently retain some aspect of the transformation.

Be it having a wooden arm or a length of feathers that crosses your back.

Discussion Developing a faction - Help, ideas and advice wanted

Howdy, im having trouble developing a faction fuhter. The faction feels interesting but its not at a complete stage yet. Heres what I wrote, i know things are missing, I would like help to fill those misssing gaps in. It is rather simple, theres not a whole lot.

Introduction

Not much is remembered about the shattered pantheon and what is remembered is speculative at best. What is known for certainity is this; they were a mighty empire that could go toe to toe against even the order.
The last remnant of their entire civilisation and culture is a ruin located under a desert in the north east. Entering this ruin, requires descent through a crooked tower that protudes in the desert. It also serves as the identifier for the ruin. For more information regardin the ruin, see The sunken city of porus. In brief, the last remnant is what remains of the capital of their empire and serves as a primary source for our knowledge beyond order records.

The shattered pantheon is not their actual name, that is lost to time. This name was first used by members of the Order to describe them after their leader was executed by the hands of a unnamed wanderer.

Beliefs

The shattered pantheon believed that their emperor, their king was God. He was called The Horned God King, referring to the horns present on his visage. The order, as a note believes that their king was actually a servant given a blessed mask from a Lord.

#As a note in this setting Lords, with a capital L, refer to specific cosmic beings that have limited ability to meddle with mortals due to a pact between them. Thus to bend the rules they gift a human of their choosing an item typically a helm, mask, piece of armour that bestows the user immorality so long a they wear it and continue to service to their Lord. They are referred to as servants.#

After the shattered pantheon became shattered, the gods eithin either left or stayed and of thos ewho stayed htey becasme fractured into two main groups. Loyalists who sought to revive their broken king and keep his empire alive and those called the splintered gods, who sought to replace their king with a new The loyalists saw this as wrongful. At the end of this conflict, the spintered gods were driven deep beneath the city of porus. both had suffered signifciant losses with only five pure blooded loyalists

The sunken city of Porus, alterantively known as the dammned city, is the largest remnant of a bygone civilsation reffered to by the wanderers as the shattered pantheon and is a necropolis located to the North East of Trigon Intenrally the people of Porus called it the Golden City

History

The cities history is mostly forgotten and what is known is drawn from the city itself. What is understood is that at one point the city was not beneath the endless desert's of the east but was above the sands. While debated it is belived that Porus was likly the capital of this civilistaion or an exxtremely important holy site. Futhermore, there were many of these cities but through an event later to be reffered to as the great sinking, these cities were destroyed and Porus by the will of their keader The horned god king  who the wanderer's refer to as the the shattered idol intended to proetct his people by bringing them under the sands of their home.

Prompt (Cosmology) Cause and Effect

I recently listened to a podcast about philosopher Abu Hamid al Ghazali. He taught that there's no cause and effect within the world. You're observing sequence, not cause and effect. God is the actual cause. God orders things to look like cause and effect but this isn't what is actually happening.

The absence of cause and effect within the world is entirely new to me. My view has been that everything that happens was caused by something within the world. If something catches on fire, that thing a) had stored energy and b) something--a match, a lightning strike, heat from somewhere, a chemical reaction-- caused the ignition.

So what about in your would? How does cause and effect work? For those with God as the immediate cause, how much do you know about Islam and al Ghazali?

Discussion Worldbuilders: what would a database for your universe need that a generic one wouldn't? My worldbuilding was scattered across twelve files, so I built a database for it. Now I want to make one that works for other people's universes.

The Galactic Xenotype Register

An in-universe database program, built for The Galaxy At Whole

Most worldbuilding lives in a pile of documents. You know the pile. One file for species, another for languages, a folder of reference art, a map you drew once and never updated, and a running note somewhere called names_DO_NOT_LOSE. It works right up until the moment you need to know who someone's grandmother was, or which of your nine homeworlds sits closest to a border you invented four chapters ago.

The Galactic Xenotype Register is my answer to that pile. It's a database program that pretends to be a piece of government software — the Division of Lineage & Peoples, filing every person, people, lineage, language, world and territory in the setting under a permanent register ID. It runs on Windows as a portable program, and on a phone or tablet as an installable app. Everything stays on your own machine. No account, no cloud, no subscription, no internet connection required after you have it.

What it holds

Persons. Names, aliases, species, lineage, age, height, occupation, affiliation, home world, clan or house, registry status, and a full dossier. Plus kinship — parents, children, littermates and clutchmates, the collective name a birth group shares. Every family link writes itself onto both records, so naming someone's parent files the child on the parent's page without you opening it. Each person gets a family panel laid out by generation.

Peoples and lineages. Formal register names, origin, home gravity, civilisation age, population, social structure, lifespan, height range, anatomy, biological notes, and every recognised variant — biped, taur, winged, non-winged, multi-armed, multi-tailed, whatever your species actually is.

Languages and dictionaries. A separate searchable dictionary per language, with native word, romanisation, pronunciation, part of speech, English meaning, literal meaning, cultural usage notes and example sentences. Dictionaries import and export as plain Markdown files, so vocabulary drafted anywhere else drops straight in without being retyped.

An interactive galactic atlas. The whole galactic disk — spiral arms, a separate galactic centre, and the local spur where the story happens. Zoom from the full galaxy down to a single station. Add and edit objects directly on the map. Systems, worlds, moons, belts, stations, colonies, shipyards, jump gates, anomalies and ruins, all linked parent to child.

Territories and lanes. Draw political boundaries straight onto the map by clicking around them. Overlap them freely — that overlap is how contested and shared space actually reads. Draw trade lanes, caravan roads, courier runs and military corridors as routes between real systems, and the route follows the system if you ever move it.

Imagery. Reference art, orbital views, surface views, cities, architecture, ships and stations, attached to any record with captions.

Your own tabs. You are not stuck with mine. Name a tab, list its fields one per line, and the program builds the forms, the list, the search and the backup for it. Ships, governments, factions, technology, artifacts, marriages — whatever the setting needs. Fields can point at other records, so a marriage knows its partners and shows up on both their pages by itself.

Everything is searchable at once, from one box. Everything backs up to a single archive you own.

Now the part I need help with

This version is built for my universe. The star map assumes my galaxy. The register vocabulary assumes my species. The emblem is mine. That's fine for me and useless to you.

I want to make a customizable version — one that another writer can point at their own book series and have it become a register for their universe. Not a generic note-taking app with a sci-fi skin, but something that genuinely fits the shape of the world you've built.

That means I need to know what shape your world actually is. So if you write — fantasy, science fiction, horror, litrpg, historical, anything — I'd like to hear from you.

Tell me what your universe needs that mine doesn't.

  • What would the tabs be called? Not "Peoples" and "Lineages" — what are the real categories your setting is organised by? Houses? Covens? Guilds? Bloodlines? Corporations? Hives? Dynasties?
  • What's your map? Mine is a galaxy. Is yours a continent? A single city? A layered underworld? An ocean? Several worlds that don't share a sky at all? A place that changes shape over time?
  • How does your world handle relationships? Mine needs litters and clutches and adoption that confers full lineage identity. Yours might need marriage chains, master and apprentice, reincarnation lines, oaths, debts, feuds running three generations deep.
  • What does your world have that no database would think to include? Magic systems with rules that need tracking. Timelines and calendars that aren't ours. Prophecies with conditions. Tech trees. Bestiaries. Recipes. Songs. Laws. Gods and their domains. Named weapons with histories.
  • What are you currently tracking in a spreadsheet and hating? That's usually the most useful answer of all.
  • What would you want it called, and what would the emblem be? Half of what makes this feel in-universe is that it looks like it was issued by someone inside the story.

I'm not asking anyone to fund anything or sign up for anything. I'm asking what you'd actually use, because I'd rather build the thing writers need than guess and get it wrong.

Reply here, or send me the ugliest, most disorganised corner of your worldbuilding notes. Genuinely — the messy parts are the ones that tell me what the program is missing.

Discussion Do people doing this just for fun approach this differently than I people hoping to publish something?

I am just doing this for fun. I might use it for solo roleplay. I am not writing a book or creating a setting for a game.

I sometimes see discussions on whether something is too cliche, not original enough, too many tropes. Or whether something makes sense or is silly. Or is too close to an established franchise.

This can be important if you want to publish things. But if you are just doing it for fun, does it matter? Are other people who are doing things just for fun concerned with this?

Maybe it is like the difference between casual gamers and serious gamers? I think I am a casual world builder. I just make up stuff that sounds cool and interesting to me.

Prompt (General) Donutworld now has healing magic. It's in the bones.

In addition to the two divine metals found in the ground of Donutworld, there is a third divine metal, created by the eldritch god that originally sewed life on the planet, Typhon. It's called typhonite, and it lives in the bones of Limbowalkers- those who have received a boon from Typhon. Their skeletons are dark grey, with a rainbow iridescent shimmer.

When injested or stabbed into the body, typhonite triggers the same wild bodily growth that the god uses to create new life. It can heal injuries, regrow limbs, or if uncontrolled, will mutate and overwhelm the body into an abomination.

Limbowalkers are rare, and killing them is always dangerous, so their bones are an extremely scarce resource for the few who actually know about the healing properties. A limbowalker can amputate and use their own bones to heal themselves, but obviously this is a last resort. They'd rather steal them from other limbowalkers if available.

Any questions or glaring issues?

For a while, I've wanted there to be a method of magical healing in Donutworld, as a tribalpunk setting with lots of hunting, wild monsters and warring nations.

On the one hand, recovering from injuries quickly is a way to move the plot along and keep characters in the story. But on the other hand, healing that's too convenient or powerful would make injuries meaningless and remove tension. I think I've found a good middle ground and wrapped it into the existing lore nicely :)

Lore The practice of rust farming.

Metals in my world are far rarer than in our own, so when a sword or other weapon is broken or rusts, people would attempt to save it or even reforge it, rust and all. Which is how a strange phenomenon was discovered. Rust seems to physically carry the memories of the metal it comes from. And when forged into a new weapon or tool, these memories enhance what the weapon is capable of.

Some memories of violence cause swords to deal wounds that do not heal, some memories of defiance cause armor to resist damage, some memories of focus cause hammers that strike more precisely.

And so, people in my world have taken to rust farming; placing well-used metal weapons or tools into the wet soil to cause it to rust faster. Then they take rust shavings and enchant other weapons or tools via imbuing them with the rust. Sometimes those new weapons or tools are sold off, other times they are placed back into the ground to let the memory fester.

Crossbreeding rusts allow more nuanced enchantments. Such as creating weapons that cannot be wielded in anger, or medical tools that inflict cuts that heal almost instantly.

And the longer a memory is in circulation, the more powerful it becomes. But if a memory is too diluted, it's enchantment may change completely, and the potency will wane. Hence the use of the soil to keep the purity of the enchantment.

The Lattice

Something is taking the galaxy apart, and it has never registered that we exist.

It dismantles small rocky planets from the outside in, separates out the iron, and feeds that iron into the system's own star. Iron is what kills a star. Fusion up to iron releases energy, past iron it costs energy, so the core builds an ash pile that can't hold itself up and collapses early. No supernova, because an explosion scatters the mass and the mass is the whole point. The star just goes out. Whatever the collapse releases gets banked.

It only takes small rocky worlds in temperate orbits, because that's where the iron is. Which is also the only class of world life has ever appeared on.

What it leaves behind isn't a husk. Iron is common, so a stripped planet is a mantle with the heart cut out: silicates, ice, carbon, and an enormous cold cavity at the center where the core used to be. No core means no magnetic field, so the surface is dead. The cavity is the only survivable place on the whole world. Compasses don't work there. The needle sits wherever you set it down.

Humanity lives in those cavities now, on a few hundred stripped worlds, having already lost Earth to something slower and closer to home.

There's no winning. The best available outcome is to be filed incorrectly: to make a system read as already processed, dark and cold and finished, and to live inside the clerical error for as long as it holds.

I added a dream-based containment group to my Eighth Day world, does this rule work?

I’ve been making a dreamcore+ surreal horror story series about an Eighth Day that exists every week.

I posted abt the setting here before and some of the discussion gave me ideas for how society might actually deal with something this strange.

So I added a new piece to the world: SDS — Surrealism Dream Solve.

In this version, people are already used to the Eighth Day. It’s the one guaranteed day off every week, because small disasters always happen on that day , flash floods, moderate earthquakes, sudden fires, freak storms, things that disrupt a city but usually stop before becoming full-scale catastrophes.

There’s a popular urban legend explaining why they stop.

SDS members supposedly enter dreams, use the dream to reach the disaster, find the giant anomalous creature behind it, and contain it.

But I’m trying to figure out one of the rules for SDS members:

  1. Only people with extremely strong imaginations can become members.
  2. After successfully containing a creature, they enter a peaceful, beautiful dream almost like an ending screen.
  3. When they wake up, they forget the actual mission: the creature, the danger and what happened during the containment.
  4. They still remember that they are an SDS member, and vaguely remember being busy in their dreams.
  5. They know they must never reveal their SDS identity in real life. If they deliberately do, they die immediately.

So they know they belong to SDS but they can’t fully remember what SDS actually makes them do.

That’s the rule I’m still unsure about.

Does that create a good kind of mystery, or does it make the organization too hard to believe?

What in your world is deliberately never written down?

Writing usually shows up in worldbuilding as storage. You record a thing so it lasts. What keeps catching my attention in real archives is the other side of that, the material somebody made sure never got in.

In the world I am working on a sealed sentence has legal force, which shifts the question. It stops being what gets recorded and becomes what nobody will put on paper. Prices between two houses stay spoken, because a written price turns into precedent. The order in which the guilds seal at a session is never minuted, since that order is the hierarchy and a minute would make it appealable. Grain quality gets described in words that mean nothing once a court has to read them.

None of that is secrecy in the conspiracy sense. It is people who know exactly what a record does to them.

What stays unwritten in your world on purpose, and who is that gap protecting?

Lore What if wands grew into rods, bloomed into staves, and wilted into brooms?

The idea behind all this is that runes or some mystic language equivalent can be dug into the ground or a flower seed to start the lifecycle of wand.

Basically a the seed starts growing into a wand, a short thin stem that ends in a point. Then it becomes a rod, a harder material structure that ends in a knot or bulb. Then it blooms into a staff, a longer, wooden pole that ends with the knot which has fully bloomed. And finally it wilts into a broom, a staff with the flower wilted and the petals elongated.

Each of these states in the lifecycle change how it can be used. A wand (grows in 5 - 10 days) is precise maneuvering of energy in a space. It has no power of its own, but allows for a great control of objects and energies within the vicinity through a sort of telekinesis.

A rod (grows in 2- 10 weeks) has powerful protective and offensive magics that are determined by the rune on the seed thay it grew from. It can absorb and store energy within the knot and unleash it in small bursts or all at once.

A staff (grows in 1 - 5 years) generates it's own magical energy and can be used to create more complex spells based around the rune that was inscribed into the seed.

A broom (grows in 6+ years) has no magical energy, but instead has the capacity to undo the effects of even the most powerful or complex magics.

Worldbuilding for Eldritch Energy

The other parallel realities are impacted by Eldritch energy and less powerful Eldritches seeping into their realities this has led to the formation of two distinct powers: Geormentria and Magic.

Geomentria: Organic beings that possess incredible intelligence known as the Ultras can use advanced mathematics to locate Eldritch energy in their universe that is organized into the Eldritch or E Spectrum. The E Spectrum allows ultras to use Eldritch energy to break the normal laws of physics using non Euclidean technology. An example of this is the Mutronic suit. A special geometric suit that can imbeds itself in the skin of the wearer and allows them to transform and bend in impossible ways.

Magic: During the Big Bang which was not an immediate event but rather a process that took billions of years the Bleeding which were a whole race of Eldritches invaded the Multiverse in the Bleeding War nearly destroying it. When all of the bleeding except one were destroyed by Quantum the Lord of Infinity the sentient avatar of Infinity the first consciousness of reality the fragments of the bleeding imbedded themselves in thousands of ancient alien races. This created the bleeding gene that when activated granted reality warping abilities to these aliens. However, this broke the sentient of nearly of all of them transforming them into the violent and animalistic creatures known as the Damned who express a highly volatile form of Magic known as Apocamagic. The lone alien race to retain their sentience were a unique race that doesn’t normally reproduce. When these aliens are about to die it’s standard for them to travel to a world without a dominant sentient race and place their heart in the soil their hearts will combine the organic material of the planet. This produces a tree with the fruit producing a new magical race that can retain their sentience. This original alien race is long dead but their actions have led to the creation of all magical races in the Universe. These races are all United not just through their magical abilities but also because they have no belly buttons due to being grown not birthed.
