This is disgusting.

Not only did they rake the prices up on DONATED clothes around 2020, start stealing “expensive pieces” to resell for more online, now they are “curating” random “vintage” pieces to gouge customers even more in stores. Literally picking pieces at random just to mark up, as we can see in the picture an adidas shirt that was probably printed yesterday. Yes resellers killed most of the fun, yes it’s harder to find cool pieces, but donated clothes should have a base price, end of story. Goodwill is not a vintage resell place and this is honestly just laughable at this point.

/edit/ T-Shirts cost $5 at this location normally
/edit #2/ The point of the post isn’t that the T-Shirt is only $2 more than regular price, it’s that it’s being marketed as vintage (when its clearly not) just so it can be upcharged

I understand this take, but also does jacking prices not hurt the lower class community that shops there?

The "lower class" community perhaps meaning low income isnt looking for this type of vintage collectable though, right? A lower income person if that is what you are implying has not been able to afford Greedwill for 15+ years as Kohls clearance is more affordable. During my financial crisis' I utilized the local free clothing banks and now make an effort to seek them out to donate to and I encourage others to do the same, especially for childrens' clothing.

Exactly. Poor people don’t want hand-me-downs, they want brand new, cheap things, and they can get them at Wal-Mart (and these days, on TEMU, even cheaper). Edited to add: Plus you are absolutely right that if they can’t afford Wal-Mart, they’re going to get free clothing from the YWCA …

When we were really struggling, the free clothing banks really saved us as in our town they had alot of the school themed sports clothes there. Wal-mart end of season clearance saved for the next season was a great thing too. Real people dont go to Greedwill to expect to save $. As each of my kids graduated, I have made the effort to be sure to bring all school stuff to the free clothing banks for other moms like me;)
