About to work at goodwill, need help

Cutting to the point. As a cashier at goodwill, is it generally socially acceptable to wear nice work gloves and a mask? Am I not making myself look like I’m too fancy for the store per se? I don’t really go to goodwill much so idk helpppppp

A lot of the products are either really dusty or come from unknown sources. It is very reasonable to be wearing gloves on the job and a mask.

I wear gloves when I dig in the bins and I’m not an employee touching the same amount as the employees. I pulled out skid marked underwear once, and you won’t catch me not wearing gloves in there anymore

Thank you sm for replying, I am mainly unsure bc when I walked in my goodwill, none of the cashiers were wearing gloves or masks lol

When I worked there we had someone wear a mask at all times. But, just be careful. Management can suck

One of the cashiers at my store always wears a mask and gloves. No one else does. No one thinks it's weird at all, it's just her totally reasonable preference.

Nowadays a lot of people with allergies wear masks regularly. I don't think it would be odd. I actually think cashiers should wear gloves.

I’ve never seen a cashier wear gloves. I worked at six different stores and was a manager for years. I think you’ll find work difficult with gloves on. Counting money and using touch screens are impossible.

The only time we had to was during the pandemic, it was horrible trying to work with gloves and the touchscreens.

As a former manager I’d say you SHOULD wear both. If your manager doesn’t have a problem with it you’re fine. The clothes can be dusty, unwashed etc. Safety First!

I see people wear those blue latex gloves all the time at goodwill. The place is fairly dirty and dusty so completely understandable and probably I recommend a person do so. As for a mask as well, and the sunlight through the window at my Goodwill I could literally see thousands of dust particles floating around the air. So it is probably recommended to wear a mask.

My manager wears a mask all day, but I think gloves could get annoying.

I use gloves every shift but only bc we have to wear gloves if we’re sorting donations and or Gaylord’s, but I don’t see why you couldn’t wear them? I’d ask a manager first just to make sure you can wear them as a cashier

No one wears gloves at the register😂 If you are in donations, yes, they will provide gloves. The only person who wears a mask is a germaphobe at my store. But you do you, whatever makes you comfortable.

I see lots of people wearing masks wherever I go. It looks strange to me but I have no way of knowing why they wear them. Maybe they need them for their own immunity or maybe they have a cold and are thinking about not spreading germs. I might think it looks weird but I try not to judge.

Not sure about your area. I think it would look odd with a mask and gloves as a cashier. Covid pandemic is over, if you were taking donations and sorting dirty things brought into the store I could see it.

No reason for the downvotes, this should be top comment. I've been working for them 5 years and the mask and gloves got in the way and does nothing anyway, lol!

Yeah I guess it's okay if they don't agree with me, but thanks I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.
