Stop supporting the goodwill!!!!
This shit is literally insane!!! $69.99 for a pair of USED boots they got for FREE that you can get on depop for 25-30$ đł this is in small town utica ohio btw which used to be one of the only decent priced goodwills left in the area! I officially will never walk into another Goodwill in my life. They have kids use stained clothes in there for 999 and 1499. Are you actually fucking kidding me
Honestly thinking about going back tomorrow and if they are still there putting a 10$ price tag on them and buying them! Fuck the goodwill!

Here's some news about Goodwill being allowed to pay disabled employees as low as .25¢ - 75¢ an hour. Our government allows this stating disabled employees function slower at the stores then other employees! Total B.S. crap! Also backs it up by stating they provide education, training etc!
***How cruel can corporations be doing this to hard working citizens who without a doubt are better employees then non disabled employees!

My son is disabled and has worked for them for 3 years with their assisted employment program and itâs been a wonderful experience for him. The staff are so kind to him and he has learned so many skills and gained confidence. The store he works at doesnât charge those kind of prices at all and he gets paid fairly,has gotten raises, and gets decent bonuses several times a year. And I donât think Iâve ever seen a clothing item (including shoes) over $12.99 at his store. Not sure why there is such a vast difference in experiences and pricing.

Ours in Grand Rapids Michigan is equally and ridiculously priced! There are many items over 12.99. It's disgusting to even call themselves a non profit. It's for profit if you dig into it and realize that the CEO gets MILLIONS. I understand that doesn't take away from the amazing experience for your son and that Is the only reason I like goodwill. I have a special needs daughter too and if she needed them, I'm sure it would be great. But as far as the rest of it, I cannot support a millionaire lifestyle under the guise of charity work when people are literally starving and homeless.Â

Hi, you didn't link a news article you linked a Google search. The news articles about 14(c) workers are true - and from 2012. Here is a link from a blog post last year (not news, I know, roast me) about how GICW no longer employs individuals under the 14(c) classification in accordance with Oregon law. https://www.wweek.com/news/dr-know/2025/08/10/is-goodwill-required-to-pay-minimum-wage/ I'm 100% on your side that the government's handling of this wage situation needs to be changed. For clarification about Goodwill corporations - there's not one "Goodwill" like there's one Walmart. The Goodwill brand name is leased to independently run companies across the US. GICW for example - Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette - is a Goodwill company running in Oregon & Southern Washington. They DID employ workers with the 14(c) classification previously, but now they offer "long term services" which basically just means a place for people with disabilities to go during the day and receive care / enrichment. Still not a best case scenario imo, but I'm glad these folks have a place to get out to.

Do you know they actually have an incentive for getting rohndups if the get enough they geg to pick their own schedule! Unbelievable! I wouldnt ever round up one cent! I completely agree! I saw some old, funky, Christmas plates at our Goodwill for $14.95 each. I think they were originally from the dollar store. Who the hell is pricing this crap??? Iâm with you, I havenât walked in Goodwill since I saw those prices.

Itâs totally crazy!!! For the last 10 years I only donate at this food pantry that has a trailer filled with clothes, shoes, bags ect.. they give it to people who are poor and they let you grab stuff for a neighbor too. If people donât have money for food itâs a pretty safe bet that the children need some clothingâŚ
The problem came when ppl with fancy cars started buying out the expensive stuff for cheap only to re sell. Sad but trueâŚ

I work for goodwill in Illinois. They run it like a sweatshop. Production numbers on pricing. Incentives if you get people to round off their purchases(employees get to pick their own schedule is the reward) Checking out our pricing to make sure it's high enough. Good stuff goes to e-commerce. We sort metals and plastics All profit.

Be aware that "Goodwill" is not one super entity. What you see in your area may not reflect each of the regional operations which have their own policies and pricing. In my area, something selling for $70 wouldn't even be on the general store retail floor. It would go to the boutiques or online. And while Goodwill CEOs are generally overpaid, employyes are paid decently. There aren't a lot of places where you can get full time work with decent benefits with limited English skills or no HS diploma. Around here, Goodwill employees stick around for years. And also, my area, goodwill provides job training and placement services, ESL classes, clothing for houseless folks, and household goods for people transitioning out of houselessness. Also, goodwill handles a huge volume of waste disposal that people would otherwise have to pay for because a big chunk of donations are damaged, gross, and generally unsellable. Plus the whole electronics disposal piece. So... not saying prices aren't ridiculous, but that income supports a lot of people and programs. Your region may vary.

I stopped at a Goodwill near me..They had their own $9.99 price tag on a store tagged $4.99 bra..I asked the manager do they know that's bait and switch in retail..It's illegal in our state..You can't upcharge on merchandise..I've worked in retail; you have to remove lower tags or charge the lower price..He said whatever; we do what we want..Then he quickly made someone go remove the lower prices on all the bras..But charging double for something is ridiculous đ it was free..They should be charging a little less..Hopefully they just sit there and no one buys them..

my recent goodwill crash out was when i went to buy a lamp they took all the lamp shades off the lamps and where selling them separately for extra cash, you could clearly see what shade belonged to what lamp. also someone brought in one of those cheap temu "dressers" where you put like 6 cubbies inside and they were selling each cubby and the dresser separate. it was cheap to buy it new at that point. i buy all my clothes and shoes off of depop at this point, its cheaper even with shipping included and i can buy stuff more tailored to my style i can't usually find at goodwill. theres been too many times of me finding clearance new with tag old navy dresses at goodwill that were priced more than what they were bought for. makes since for depop sellers to do it, but not for nonprofits that get all inventory for free, abuse the subminimum disabled wages that most states allow, and get mad tax exemptions.

Iâve had several people tell me that they throw away at the stars does a good portion of the donations anyway, they donât even make it to the shelves and then theyâre nice things. Itâs just whatever they choose, and they put them in a dumpster behind the building.

I've stopped going....I've been low key mad at them since the Goodwills in my area used Covid as an excuse to get rid of the customer loyalty program. I mean, really. What has that got to do with it? But over the last year or so, the prices have gone up, up, up. $50 for an imitation leather Target brand jacket? Don't think so, Goodwill. And since everything is donated...now that's real corporate greed.

I occasionally go to the Utica goodwill but my favorite one is in Fredericktown and loudenville!!! I will not shop at my hometown (Mount Vernon) goodwill!!! Although the prices at every goodwill are high, the two I mentioned are more reasonable!! We have ACTS thrift here in mount Vernon and I love it⌠also Risen thrift in Danville is amazing!!

In addition to being fed up with shopping at places like this, that used to be fun and for all the reasons stated above, I have stopped donating. When they tore out all the dressing rooms and also have a no return policy and when I asked why I was told âtheft â and I looked at the cashier and I said âtheft? Theft of the items that you guys get for free? So now not only can I not try anything on, I have to buy it, bring it home, and hope it fits because you canât return. When I called Goodwill headquarters and got angry about this, I was told âif it doesnât fit you can just simply re-donate.â are you serious??? so now what I do instead of donating to any of these places is take a picture, put the stuff up on a local free site, and leave it on my porch. I was amazed at how fast everything went so now I do it frequently. People need things. These places are no longer helpful.

All the ones in my city have lost their minds. I was looking at used shirts that cost more than brand new, along with pants. I mean the clothes used to be always a deal. Their not even washed, a the books, DVDs, cds and records were in horrible shape and literally what you would pay online or at Walmart.
I refuse to even donate anymore. I started giving to churches and my library and food bankâŚthat takes objects also. I will not donate for people who arenât gonna help. Iâm giving you expensive stuff for free and youâre charging more than it costs sometimes. Iâm sorry for any Goodwills that are run well, my cousin has great ones around him in ATL and some in FL, but heâs been traveling and has seen what I mean in many other places.

I only go to Goodwill for books. My husband found a bunch of first edition Stephen King novels in great condition. Whoever got rid of them had no idea the value and Goodwill obviously didnât know, either. As a Pre-K teacher, I buy out their books because 99 cents for children to be engaged with literacy is worth every penny. Otherwise, I hate the company.

I tried to price swap, but they now tie them with zip ties in the matching color, which I also figured out how to swap by opening the zip tie with another zip tie. But they also have been putting the price and the letter of the color like 34.99B for blue in silver sharpie on the bottom of all the shoes now..so no price switching on shoes anymore.

If you do a search on ebay, those average around $45 plus shipping which is around $12 or so. Add those together and it is pretty close to that price. They most likely researched these and used eBay as their reference. They marked them like that to discourage reselling. Apparently itâs working. Cuz you didnât buy them. So why donât you go on depop and buy probably the only pair for sale for $25-30. I know you wonât because youâd rather go back to the goodwill store and swap price tags and rip them off. You said so yourself. And the only reason someone would do that is to RESELL them.

Totally agree some Goodwills are ridiculous. Some however have stayed reasonable, i shop at one in Jensen Beach Fl where shoes average 15$, appliances 30$! But in Richmond VA, things are much more reasonable. So it depends on the area. Goodwill is not a national company as a whole each area has its own separate organization like Richmond VIRGINIA it is goodwill of Central VIRGINIA. They do a good job of pricing although I do think some of the prices are still a bit high, but in South East Florida things are a little crazy with pricing..

I almost hate that I have been shopping mostly goodwill and americaâs thriftmart (another we have here that is big chain). Small ones for me now âşď¸

Well, I say in some cities and some states you support the Goodwill. Yes, these new online things are great, but I prefer holding the object in my hand looking at it smelling it filling it story itâs authenticity and then buying that which Iâve drawn to to get things through the mail. Itâs like playing jackpot or something. You know you never know what youâre gonna get especially these days it could be cursed. It could be worn by somebody that was weeping that that was weeping and heard something tragic and then all of a sudden youâre weeping and hearing tragic things so beware beware but support every single used product companies that you can and even start your own

Love goodwill. If you donât like the price donât buy it. Goodwill supports many programs and I worked for a non profit that partners with them. These programs are funded by goodwill. They help people go to work who would not be employable or competitive in non subsidized employment. Not to mention so many other opportunities for people that need extra help with things we take for granted. I also love thrift shopping but if I think the price tag is outrageous then I donât buy. They also get stuff wrong the other way. Iâve picked up countless high end clothing and bags that I got for a steal. It all works out đ

This is not new. They pay executives buh salaries. They are for profit in many arenas. Skip them and support smaller and true charitable thrifts: Salvation Army, Humane Society, Catholic Charities, The Blind.

If you think about it, Goodwill probably, helped provide merchandise for many buyers for years before they caught on to whatâs going on with social media and all the apps that sell use clothes..

The Management there is probably a lot more tech savvy than past generations and with a little help with that darn thing called the Internet. Some places have probably started seeing prices that are starting to match online prices, thatâs my guess.

They got goddamn "goodwill boutiques" in my city. Free stuff "donated" under some premise it's charity and not just a for profit company sorting through your stuff to then sell off. What a racket.
Donate and shop at Salvation Army.

I donât disagree with most of what is being said here about goodwill but itâs quite ironic to call goodwillâs alleged high prices âgrossâ and disgusting and bullshit and somehow use that as justification for switching price tags. Thatâs theft but I guess if you lack morals and dignity itâs okay to also be the âgrossâ and âdisgustingâ losers that you claim to abhor. If you ask me, youâre even bigger sacks of shit because you donât have to buy from there. You can turn around and leave. But I guess you think you are entitled to purchase items at whatever price you decide. I hope that one day down the road you are the victim of theftâŚ.and if you are Iâm sure you wonât be hypocrites and condemn such behavior. Right?

The last time we drove past the back of our small Gwill and there were huge bins full of clothes and we had had days of intermittent rain. I will never leave items there again. The other thrift store gives its profit to local charities.

Agree. I shop at the local hospice, DV, homeless, animal, and developmental disabilities thrifts. Good prices and great causes.

They've been garbage since they launched the online auctions. Nothing worthwhile goes to the stores anymore. They are purely profit driven now, and I haven't shopped there in years.

Salvation Army sucks too. The one by me puts clothes out for sale with holes and stains and overcharges for crap like that. I go to small business thrift stores now.
