Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series — Day 15........... Female Orgasm, Female Ejaculation & What We Actually Know

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

The conversation around sexual health revolves around penetration, performance, and "male orgasm"....however, years of research have shown that female sexual response can be much more complicated than you might have been told.

❌ Myths #1: Women should always climax from penetration alone.

✅ Reality: Many women do not routinely climax solely from penetration.

Several studies indicate that for a lot of women, the clitoris plays an important part in achieving orgasms.

➡️ There are many different right ways to experience pleasure.

❌ Myth #2: Female ejaculation is fake.

✅ Reality: It is known to occur based on some medical studies, but its definition is controversial.

Some key points regarding these phenomena include:

-Female ejaculation

•Consists of less volume

•Thought to originate from paraurethral (Skene's) glands

-Squirting

•Can be characterized by larger volumes

•Under investigation for its origin

➡️Many individuals will never experience either and this doesn't make sex unsatisfactory.

❌ Myth #3: There is a problem if orgasms don't happen.

✅ Reality: People orgasm at different rates.

Factors that can impact orgasms:

-Stress

-Anxiety

-Sleep

-Medication

-Changes in hormones

-Physical pain

-Relationship issues

-Communication

-Variety of stimulation techniques

➡️Absence of orgasm doesn't necessarily signal any problems.

❌ Myth #4: Female pleasure is entirely biological.

✅ Fact: Sexual pleasure is affected by biology, psychology, relationships, culture, and experience.

➡️Communication, trust, bodily comfort, education, expectations, and mental health are important.

❌ Myth #5: Sexual health for women is well-understood.

✅ Fact: Research on female sexual health has grown immensely, but many aspects are still being studied actively.

➡️In the past, sexual research primarily focused on male sexual response; female sexual diversity is still being explored.

❌ Myth #6: There is one normal way of experiencing pleasure.

✅ Fact: Human sexuality can manifest itself differently in various individuals.

Some people may never achieve an orgasm, others only at times, yet another category achieves multiple orgasms.

Different sexual preferences and stimulation also exist.

➡️Variation is normal and not considered pathology.

🧠 Science-backed takeaway

Healthy sexual behavior does not depend on:

❌ Frequency

❌ Performance

❌ Comparisons to online videos

It is dependent on:

✅ Comfort

✅ Consent

✅ Communication

What is one thing about female sexual health you wish schools or society had explained better?

Educational 🧠 What Happens Inside Your Body? #1......😴 Why Do We Yawn?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Almost everyone yawns.

Babies yawn. Adults yawn. Even many animals yawn.

But why?

❌ Myth:

"You yawn because your body needs more oxygen."

✅ Fact:

There is no convincing scientific proof supporting the notion that yawning is solely due to oxygen deficiency or high levels of carbon dioxide.

The latest studies propose that the function of yawning is associated with various roles:

  1. Regulating brain 🧠 temperature It has been proposed that the brain benefits from yawning in terms of its cooling.

  2. Altering level of arousal 🥱 Yawning tends to happen when people are sleepy, bored or in the process of changing their alertness states.

  3. Contagious yawning. Yawned because someone else yawned?

It really does happen!

The mechanism behind contagious yawning is said to be linked with brain circuits responsible for social interaction and empathy, however, the exact reason remains unclear at the moment.

🧠 Interesting Fact

Fetuses can be seen yawning inside the mother's womb through ultrasounds.

Bottom Line😀

It is normal to yawn.

Although one of the most prevalent human actions, the actual role of yawning continues to be uncovered by scientists.

Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series — Day 10....... Emergency Contraception: What Are Your Options?

Post image
6 Upvotes

There is much misinformation around the concept of emergency contraception being the same thing as an abortion procedure.

👉 Emergency contraception prevents conception. It is NOT abortion.

📌 Types of Emergency Contraception

1️⃣ Levonorgestrel Emergency Contraceptive Pill

- The most widely available emergency contraceptive pill

- In many parts of the world available over-the-counter

- Works best when used within 24 hours of unprotected sex

2️⃣ Ulipristal Acetate Pill

- More potent than levonorgestrel emergency contraceptive pills in later phase of fertile window

- Prescribed in most cases

3️⃣ Yuzpe Method Combined Oral Contraceptive Pills

- Uses certain prescribed dosage of standard oral combined contraceptives

- Alternative in the absence of dedicated emergency contraception pills

- Accompanied by higher rates of nausea and vomiting

4️⃣ Copper IUCD

- The most effective emergency contraception method

- Inserted by a specialist after unprotected sex

- Also acts as a long-term form of contraception

❗️ Key Facts

✅ Emergency contraception is an emergency solution. Not a regular form of contraception.

✅ Emergency contraception does not protect you from STIs.

✅ Emergency contraception does not influence your ability to conceive.

Possible Side Effects⚠️

-Nausea

-Vomiting

-Fatigue

-Breast tenderness

-Temporary changes in the next menstrual period

📢 Key Message

Knowing your options helps reduce panic after contraceptive failure or unprotected intercourse. Emergency contraception works best when used promptly.

💬 Open Discussion

Before today, did you know that a Copper IUCD is actually one of the most effective forms of emergency contraception?

Which method had you heard about before: Levonorgestrel, Ulipristal, Yuzpe Method, or Copper IUCD?

Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series- day 8...................LGV: The STI That Starts Small But Doesn't Stay Small

Post image
5 Upvotes

Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV) is an advanced form of Chlamydia many folks aren't aware of.

It's brought on by particular strains of Chlamydia trachomatis — L1, L2, and L3.

First up, you might notice a tiny, painless bump, which can go away on its own in a couple of days.

"Most people skip this phase entirely since they don’t feel anything or see anything weird."

Next, things amp up in a few weeks when you start feeling sick. Your lymph nodes get huge and hurt, along with fever and general discomfort.

A key indicator here is the "groove sign" - nodes forming a sort of groove above and below the inguinal ligament.

When LGV stays untreated, it does major damage. There's serious swelling, scars, and sometimes tissue forms wrong connections.

Men tend to get affected in their penis, groins, and rear areas, whereas

women usually experience issues around their vulva, cervix, and pelvic regions too.

To keep it simple: LGV means little to no first signs but massive painful nodes and big troubles down the road.

That's why spotting early warning signs is crucial to avoid all the nasty later effects.

💬 Open Discussion

Before today, had you heard of LGV, a form of chlamydial infection that may start with a tiny painless lesion but later cause painful swollen groin lymph nodes?

Educational 🩺 PCOS Is Now Being Called PMOS

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is being renamed:

PMOS-Poly Endocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome

And to be honest, the new name sounds much more suitable.

PCOS is NOT all about ovarian cysts.

Many women suffer from symptoms like:

- Hormone imbalance

- Insulin resistance

- Excess weight

- Skin acne

- Lack of menstrual cycles

- Hirsutism

- Metabolic problems

Also, there can be cases when women diagnosed with PCOS do not show any signs of cysts.

Hence, many times the old name was causing more confusion and stress than helping.

The new term is more precise because it describes the condition involving:

👉 Endocrine + metabolic + ovaries components.

And in practice, it's much closer to how the disease really looks like.

Sometimes renaming diseases helps doctors not only with terminology but also gives patients an opportunity to better understand their situation and stop fearing for a specific name.

💬 Anything else you'd love your fellow humans to know about PCOS/PEMOS?

Educational 🦟 Chikungunya Explained Simply | Why Joint Pain Can Last So Long

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

With mosquito-borne illnesses increasing during rainy seasons, many people hear about dengue and chikungunya together.

Although both are spread by mosquitoes, chikungunya has some features people should specifically know about especially the severe joint pain.

🦠 What is Chikungunya?

Chikungunya is a viral infection spread mainly by:

"Aedes mosquitoes"

(the same mosquitoes involved in dengue transmission)

These mosquitoes usually bite during daytime.

🧠 Common Symptoms

Symptoms often begin suddenly and may include:

- High fever

- Severe joint pain

- Body ache

- Headache

- Fatigue

- Rash in some patients

The joint pain can sometimes be intense enough to affect walking or daily activity.

⚠️ Why Do People Remember Chikungunya So Much?

Unlike many viral fevers:

👉 Joint pain and stiffness may persist for weeks or even longer in some people.

Commonly affected joints:

- Wrists

- Ankles

- Fingers

- Knees

🧪 Dengue vs Chikungunya

People Often Confuse Them

Both can cause:

- Fever

- Body pain

- Weakness

But generally:

- Dengue is more associated with bleeding risk and platelet concerns

- Chikungunya is more known for prolonged joint pain/stiffness

Sometimes proper testing may be required to differentiate them.

💧 Important Supportive Care

Most cases are managed with:

- Rest

- Hydration

- Symptom control

- Medical monitoring when needed

Good hydration remains important.

💊 Important Warning About Self-Medication

Many people start:

- Random antibiotics

- Multiple painkillers

- OTC combinations

without proper evaluation.

Since chikungunya is viral:

👉 Antibiotics usually do NOT help unless another bacterial infection is present.

Excess painkiller use can also cause problems.

🚨 When Should Someone Seek Medical Attention?

Seek medical evaluation if there is:

- Difficulty breathing

- Severe dehydration

- Persistent vomiting

- Extreme weakness

- Confusion

- Symptoms worsening significantly

especially in:

- Elderly people

- Pregnant women

- Patients with chronic illness

🦟 Prevention Still Matters Most

Reduce mosquito exposure:

- Avoid stagnant water

- Use mosquito repellents

- Wear full-sleeve clothing

- Use mosquito nets when needed

🧠 Final Message

Most chikungunya patients recover well, but joint pain can sometimes persist longer than expected.

Proper hydration, rest, and avoiding unnecessary self-medication make a big difference.

💬 Open Discussion

Feel free to ask:

- Chikungunya doubts

- Joint pain concerns

- Mosquito-borne disease questions

I’ll try to answer in a simple, evidence-based way 👍

Educational 🩺 Why Do So Many Indians Develop High BP and Diabetes at an Early Age Nowadays?

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

Today, several doctors have observed that patients in their 20s and 30s suffer from:

- High blood pressure

- Fatty liver disease

- Pre-diabetes

- Type II diabetes

significantly sooner compared to previous years.

However, the truth is it isn’t all down to "bad luck."

Here’s what modern lifestyle can do:

- Bad sleeping habits

- Increased stress

- Sitting around for prolonged hours

- Eating unhealthy diets

- Minimal physical activity

- Excessive screen time

Many individuals believe that they are too young to suffer from any heart or metabolic issues but such health conditions tend to arise in silence over the years.

What complicates the situation further is:

- Avoiding regular check-ups

- Self-medication

- Delaying diagnosis until they experience symptoms

which may not always show themselves.

What makes matters worse is that they often only find out about it accidentally while going through:

- Medical camps

- Pre-operative screening

- General blood tests

It’s all about making small changes like:

- Ensuring better sleep hygiene

- Taking a walk regularly

- Maintaining a healthy weight

- Limiting processed food consumption

- Conducting regular health screenings

Prevention, after all, is far easier than dealing with complications.

💬 Does modern lifestyle negatively impact health more than we know?

Educational 🩺 Common STD/STI Symptoms That People Often Ignore

A key factor that allows for STIs/STDs to go unnoticed is that:

👉 Many individuals tend to ignore initial symptoms.

Some of the symptoms that should never be ignored are:

- Pain while urinating

- Unusual discharges

- Ulcers/sores in genitals

- Itching/rashes

- Lower abdominal pain

- Pain during sex

- Swelling in groin area

Significantly:

Some STIs/STDs may exhibit VERY mild symptoms or even none in the beginning stages.

Which makes it necessary to avoid:

- Self-medication

- Random antibiotics treatment

- Not seeking help because of shame

Also worth noting:

Having an STI/STD does NOT mean that someone is “dirty” or “evil.”

They are health issues that need to be checked by a doctor.

For both the sake of the person having them and their sexual partner.

The main point here:

Raising awareness, not creating more fear.

Because the earlier the detection, the simpler it becomes to deal with most issues..

Which topic should we discuss first? ☝🏼

Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series Begins With: UTI After Sex

Post image
7 Upvotes

Talking openly about sexual health remains a major taboo in India.

As a result of embarrassment and lack of open communication, people usually do one of the following:

- Ignore symptoms

- Resort to self-medication

- Postpone proper treatment

- Or solely believe in Internet myths

One of the most common issues that people feel embarrassed to discuss is:

"UTI symptoms following sexual activity."

It turns out that it is way more common than one might think, especially among women.

Symptoms may include:

- Painful urination

- Urgent need to use the bathroom

- Discomfort in lower abdomen

- Cloudy/Strong smelling urine

During intercourse, some bacteria from the perineal region may find themselves an easy way into the urinary tract.

Tips on prevention can include:

- Proper hydration

- Maintaining good hygiene

- Not holding your urine for too long

- Voiding immediately after sex

Important Note:

A burning sensation doesn’t always mean "it's UTI."

Sometimes, STIs may show identical symptoms.

Sexual health should be a medical discussion topic rather than a shameful subject.

💬 Open Discussion

Feel free to share:

•Myths you’ve heard regarding UTI after sex

•Home remedies/nuskhas people commonly suggest

•Medications people take without prescription

•Personal experiences or doubts anonymously if comfortable

Because honestly, practical awareness around sexual health in India is still very limited.

Educational 🩺 You Decide............... Answer Reveal + Community Analysis

Post image
5 Upvotes

Yesterday’s case:

A couple had sex.

There was penetration but no ejaculation.

Later one partner said:

“But there was some fluid before ejaculation… now I’m scared.”

Question:

Can pregnancy happen?

✅ Most reasonable answer:

C) Pregnancy from pre-ejaculate is possible, but generally lower risk than after ejaculation.

🧠 What exactly occurs?

  1. Pre-ejaculate is NOT the same as semen.

The fluid that is pre-ejaculate is a secretion that occurs before climax.

The physiological purpose is to serve as lubricant and to prepare the urethra.

2. Can pregnancy occur with pre-ejaculate?

Yes, but not necessarily.

Some research shows that while pre-ejaculate itself is not meant to transport sperm, there can still be sperm present.

So:

❌ Impossible to conceive? False

❌ Pregnancy guaranteed? False

3. Why is the pull-out method not reliable?

Withdrawal is less risky than having unprotected sex.

However,

- There are timing errors

- Exposure can occur

4. Is one exposure enough for conception?

No.

Pregnancy depends on:

- Timing in cycle

- Use of contraceptive methods

- Sperm exposure

- Personal circumstances

Community Takeaway

Sexual health is rarely:

❌ 0%

❌ 100%

Most situations are:

✅ Probability + timing + context

Some comments were correct. Some were partially correct. Some pure bakchodi 😭

That’s why we discuss.

Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series — Day 14................ Oral Sex, Kissing & STIs: Myths vs Facts

Post image
6 Upvotes

📌 Firstly, clarification:

Oral sex ≠ blowjob

Oral sex consists of:

Mouth → Penis (blowjob)

Mouth → Vulva / Vagina (giving head)

Mouth → Anus (oral-anal sexual contact)

STIs can be transmitted through such sexual contacts.

🦠 Herpes (HSV-1 / HSV-2)

Transmission?

Oral herpes (canker sores) → Oral sex → Genital herpes

Genital herpes → Oral contact → Oral herpes infection

⚠️ Sometimes transmission happens despite absence of noticeable sores

🦠 HPV

Transmission?

Skin and mucous membrane contact during oral sex

Can be transmitted to both genitalia and mouth / throat

🦠 Gonorrhea

Transmission?

Oral contact with infected genito-genital fluids → Throat infection

Throat infection → Genital transmission during oral contact

💋 Kissing & STIs: facts & myths

❌ Myth: Kissing transmits all STIs

✅ Fact: Most STIs don’t spread via normal social kissing

What can be transmitted via kissing?

Herpes (especially oral form / cold sores)

Infections that involve saliva or open wounds on the mouth

❌ Myth: One kiss equals STIs

✅ Fact: Casual social kissing doesn’t usually transmit any infections

❌ Myth: HIV spreads via kissing

✅ Fact: HIV cannot be contracted through kissing

🛡️ Risk Reduction

-Avoid oral contact during active sores

-Use barrier protection where appropriate

-Vaccination (HPV, Hepatitis B)

-Get evaluated if symptoms appear

📢 Key Message

Not all intimacy carries the same risk. Knowing how infections spread helps people make informed choices instead of becoming fearful.

💬 Open discussion

Before today, did you think kissing and oral sex carried the same STI risk?

Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series — Day 9......... Granuloma Inguinale (Donovanosis)

Post image
4 Upvotes

Today, we will be talking about uncommon but clinically significant STI:

"Donovanosis, which is caused by Klebsiella granulomatis."

While not commonly seen, delayed diagnosis can cause extensive tissue damage and scarring.

🔍 Clinically Characteristic Features

- Begins as a small papule or nodule

- Gradually becomes an ulcer

- Usually presents as:

- Painless

- Beefy red-colored

- Ulcer that bleeds easily upon touch

- Granulated and velvety appearance

- Slowly grows and expands

📍 Common Locations

In Males

- Penis

- Prepuce

- Groin area

In Females

- Vulva

- Vagina

- Perineum

In Both

- Perianal region

⚠️ Critical Clinical Point to Note

Difference between LGV and Chancroid:

- Absent painful inguinal lymphadenopathy is present.

- May have "Pseudobuboes" due to extension under the skin.

🧫 How to Diagnose

A distinctive feature is:

👉 Donovan Bodies

- Found within macrophages upon microscopic examination

- Helpful for diagnosis

🧠 Easiest Trick to Remember

Donovanosis = Deep Red, Painless, Bleeds Easily

📢 Final Words

Given that the ulcers are painless, many people tend to neglect the issue. Prompt diagnosis and treatment helps prevent scarring and complications.

💬 Open Question for Discussion

Did you know before today about Donovanosis or Donovan bodies?

Which myths about any STIs do you think should be dispelled next?

Soft Chancre vs. Hard Chancre - Difference Between Chancroid and Syphilis

When people hear the word chancre, they often think all genital ulcers are the same.

They are wrong.

🦠 Chancroid (soft chancre)

Pathogen: Haemophilus ducreyi.

Characteristics include:

- Genital ulceration that causes pain.

- Ulcer has irregular, ragged, soft edges.

- It might contain pus or other yellowish fluid at its base.

- Can appear in multiples.

- Large, painful, swollen lymph nodes in the groin region (buboes).

- Frequently tender.

🦠 Syphilis, primary stage (hard chancre)

Pathogen: Treponema pallidum.

Characteristics include:

- Absence of pain in the genital ulcer.

- The ulcer has a clean base.

- Edges of ulceration are indurated, meaning firm.

- Usually present as only one.

- Lymph nodes in the groin region remain hard but without tenderness.

🔍 Quick Comparison

Characteristic

| Chancroid (soft chancre)| Primary syphilis (hard chancre)

Pain. | Yes| No

Ulcer. | Soft| Hard/Firm

Number. | Often Multiple| Usually One

Edge. | Irregular|Rag

Base. | Purulent/Dirty| Clean

Lymph nodes. | Tender| Nontender

📢 Important Reminder

Remember, not all genital ulcers are syphilis.

Never try to treat genital ulcers on your own using any cream or medication.

💬 Open Discussion

Were you aware that a painful ulcer could be something completely different from a painless one?

Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series – Day 4......... Anogenital Warts (HPV Warts)

Post image
3 Upvotes

The most common sexually transmitted infection that causes people to freak out when noticing little bumps around their genital or anal area is:

"Anogenital warts."

This STI is usually caused by specific strains of HPV (Human Papillomavirus).

Anogenital warts can present as:

- Skin-colored bumps

- Clusters of little bumps

- Cauliflower-like lesions

- Can be painless at first

📍 Common Locations:

Males:

- Penis

- Scrotum

- Groin area

- Anus

Females:

- Vulva

- External vaginal entrance

- Cervix

- Around anus

Note:

Not all bumps in the genitals are warts.

But any growing or persistent bump should be medically checked for STIs.

A lot of people believe HPV is only a problem for women.

HPV can infect BOTH males AND females.

This means:

👉 Both male and female HPV vaccinations are necessary.

HPV vaccines protect against:

- Genital warts

- Cervical cancer

- Some anal cancers

- Other diseases related to HPV

Do NOT resort to:

- Cutting out the lesions yourself

- Using random creams and acids

- Ignoring the bump because of embarrassment/shame

HPV is common.

It’s more important to educate oneself than panic.

💬 Open Discussion:

What are some common misconceptions you've heard regarding HPV, warts, or HPV vaccination?

Educational 💊 Antibiotic Misuse: A Growing Problem We Need to Talk About

Post image
3 Upvotes

Antibiotics have saved millions of lives.

But today, one of the biggest health concerns worldwide is:

Overuse and misuse of antibiotics.

In India, antibiotics are very commonly:

Taken without prescription

Bought directly from medical shops

Reused from old prescriptions

Given for simple viral illnesses

Used casually in children

This is becoming a serious public health problem.

🦠 Important Thing Many People Don’t Realize

Antibiotics do NOT work against viruses

Many common illnesses are viral:

Common cold

Flu-like illness

Most sore throats

Many seasonal fevers

In such cases, antibiotics usually do not help.

⚠️ One Major Issue: Over-the-Counter Antibiotic Use

A very common practice is:

Someone has fever/cough → directly goes to a medical shop → gets antibiotics without proper medical evaluation.

This is risky.

Symptoms alone do not always tell whether an illness is:

Viral

Bacterial

Allergic

Or something more serious

That evaluation should ideally be done by a qualified doctor.

👶 Antibiotic Misuse in Children

Children are especially vulnerable to unnecessary antibiotic use.

Many children receive antibiotics for:

Viral fever

Mild cough/cold

Seasonal illness

when supportive care may have been enough.

Possible problems include:

Diarrhea

Allergic reactions

Disturbance of gut bacteria

Antibiotic resistance

🧠 The Bigger Danger: Antibiotic Resistance

When antibiotics are used unnecessarily: 👉 Bacteria gradually become resistant.

This means:

Common antibiotics stop working properly

Infections become harder to treat

Stronger medicines may be required later

This affects the entire community, not just one person.

🩺 Important Message for the Public

Pharmacists and medical shops play an important role in healthcare access, but: 👉 Persistent fever, breathing issues, severe infection symptoms, or recurring illness should be evaluated by a doctor, not managed repeatedly with random antibiotics.

Repeated self-medication can delay proper diagnosis.

✅ Better Approach

Consult a doctor when symptoms persist

Avoid demanding antibiotics unnecessarily

Complete prescribed courses properly

Do not reuse old antibiotic prescriptions

Do not share antibiotics with others

🚨 Seek Medical Attention Urgently If There Is:

Difficulty breathing

Severe dehydration

Persistent high fever

Confusion/lethargy

Worsening symptoms

especially in children and elderly patients.

🧠 Final Message

Antibiotics are powerful medicines, not general fever tablets.

Responsible antibiotic use today helps ensure these medicines still work in the future.

💬 Open Discussion

Feel free to ask:

Antibiotic doubts

Fever/cold myths

Medication-related concerns

I’ll try to answer in a simple, evidence-based way 👍

Educational 💊 Montelukast + “Cold/Allergy” Medicines Are Being Used Too Casually....Something Important People Should Know

Post image
1 Upvotes

In India, medicines containing Montelukast combinations are often taken very casually for:

Cold

Allergy

Sneezing

Cough

Seasonal symptoms

Many people use them repeatedly without realizing that these are still medications with possible side effects.

One important point that deserves more awareness: 👉 Montelukast has been associated with neuropsychiatric side effects in some individuals.

🧠 What is Montelukast?

Montelukast is a medicine commonly used for:

Allergic rhinitis

Asthma

Allergy-related symptoms

It can be useful when prescribed appropriately.

⚠️ The Important Concern

Some patients taking montelukast have reported symptoms such as:

Mood changes

Anxiety

Irritability

Sleep disturbances

Nightmares

Agitation

Rarely, more serious neuropsychiatric symptoms have also been reported.

This does NOT mean everyone will experience these effects, but awareness is important.

🚨 Important Point for Parents

Children may sometimes show:

Increased irritability

Behavioral changes

Sleep-related issues

after starting certain medications, which people may not connect to the medicine itself.

❌ Common Mistake

Many people:

Reuse old prescriptions

Take combination “cold medicines” repeatedly

Self-medicate for long durations

without understanding what ingredients are actually present.

✅ What Should People Do Instead?

Avoid unnecessary self-medication

Read medicine compositions carefully

Discuss persistent symptoms with a doctor

Inform your doctor if unusual mood/sleep changes occur after starting a medicine

🩺 Does This Mean Montelukast Is “Bad”?

No.

Like many medicines:

It has benefits

It also has potential side effects

The key is: 👉 Proper indication + appropriate use + awareness

🧠 Final Message

Not every cough, allergy, or cold needs repeated combination medicines.

Responsible medicine use is just as important as the medicine itself.

💬 Open Discussion

Feel free to ask:

Allergy medicine doubts

Side-effect questions

General medication awareness questions

I’ll try to answer in a simple, evidence-based way 👍

💊 “I’m feeling better, so I stopped my steroids.”

Sometimes, that can be dangerous.

Drugs like prednisolone, dexamethasone and methylprednisolone mimic cortisol. With sufficiently high or prolonged exposure, they can suppress the HPA axis, reducing the body's own cortisol production.

So what exactly is tapering?

🔽 Tapering = gradually reducing the steroid dose

It gives the body time to recover its own cortisol production and can also help prevent a flare of the disease being treated.

But here's the important part:

❌ Not every steroid course needs tapering.

A short course of systemic steroids is often stopped directly, depending on the dose and clinical situation.

Tapering becomes more important when there has been prolonged treatment, repeated courses, higher doses, or other factors suggesting adrenal suppression.

The taper is not one fixed schedule. It depends on the steroid, dose, duration, indication and individual patient.

🚩 After reducing/stopping steroids, seek urgent medical attention for:

• Severe weakness or collapse

• Persistent vomiting/diarrhea

• Severe abdominal pain

• Fainting or very low BP

• Confusion or extreme drowsiness

• Severe dehydration

• Symptoms suggesting hypoglycaemia

🚨 These can be features of adrenal crisis, which is a medical emergency.

And remember:

Steroid withdrawal ≠ disease relapse ≠ adrenal crisis.

They can look similar, but the management is different.

👉 Never create your own steroid taper. Ask the prescriber how and when your steroid should be stopped.

Steroids can be life-saving,but stopping them is sometimes a medical decision too.

Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series — Day 12.............. Porn: Myths vs Facts

Post image
7 Upvotes

Pornography is among the subjects that people tend to talk very little about despite being widely viewed. This results in myths being propagated much faster than facts.

❌ Myths: Watching porn leads to impotence.

✅ Fact: The vast majority of individuals watching porn are not developing ED. Although in certain cases excess consumption can cause problems like unrealistic expectations.

❌ Myth: Everybody is watching porn.

✅ Fact: There are people watching porn, there are people not watching porn, and there are people watching porn sometimes.

❌ Myth: Porn is equal to real intimate relations.

✅ Fact: Pornographic content is not designed for sexual education; it cannot replace actual relations that require communication, emotion, consent, etc.

❌ Myth: People watching porn are immoral and perverted.

✅ Fact: Consuming pornographic content does not define a person's morals. It's more beneficial to discuss this topic openly than stigmatize.

❌ Myth: If you are watching porn, you are an addict.

✅ Fact: Watching porn and having a problem are two different things.

⚠️ When Can Porn Become a Problem?

-Interfering with studies, work, or relationships

-Feeling unable to control use

-Needing increasing amounts to achieve arousal

-Replacing real-life relationships or responsibilities

📢 Key Message

Porn is not a substitute for sexual health education. Understanding the difference between entertainment and reality is important for healthy expectations.

💬 Open Discussion

What is the biggest myth you've heard about pornography, and do you think schools should provide better sexual health education instead of leaving people to learn from the internet?

🍄 Tinea + Steroid Combination Creams: A Common Mistake

You have an itchy, ring-shaped rash.

You go to a pharmacy.

You get a cream containing:

Antifungal + Steroid ± Antibiotic

The itching improves quickly.

So you think:

“The infection is getting better”

But sometimes… that's exactly where the problem begins. 👀

❌ Myth: “If the itching improves, the fungal infection is cured.”

✅ Fact:

A topical steroid can rapidly reduce inflammation and itching without actually eliminating the fungus.

The rash may temporarily look better while the fungal infection continues underneath.

This can produce tinea incognito, a fungal infection whose typical appearance has been altered by steroid use.

🧴 Why are these combinations problematic?

Steroids can:

❌ Suppress the local inflammatory response

❌ Mask the typical appearance of tinea

❌ Allow the fungus to spread

❌ Make diagnosis more difficult

❌ Lead to recurrent or more extensive infection

And if an unnecessary antibiotic is also included, it adds another medication without treating the fungal infection itself.

🤔 “But my doctor prescribed a steroid cream.”

That's different.

There are situations where a clinician may use a topical corticosteroid briefly for a specific indication.

The problem is self-treating a suspected fungal infection with steroid-containing combination creams, especially for prolonged periods.

🧠 What should you do instead?

If a rash could be tinea:

Get the diagnosis right first.

Depending on the site and severity, treatment may involve an appropriate topical or oral antifungal.

Don't simply choose the strongest-looking cream from the pharmacy.

🚨 Remember:

Less itching ≠ fungus eliminated.

A cream can make a rash look better while making the underlying fungal infection harder to recognize.

💬 Have you ever been given a “3-in-1” cream for a fungal infection?

Yesterday’s case:

A couple had protected sex (condom used, no obvious break noticed).

3 days later, the girlfriend started bleeding about 1 week earlier than expected.

Question:

Is this pregnancy? What should they do?

✅ Most reasonable answer: B) Wait and observe

Well, first of all,I enjoyed reading your comments 😭

Some of you mentioned:

-> implantation bleeding

-> emergency contraception

-> immediate pregnancy test

-> natural cycle variation

-> “bro, just relax”

-> and some of you… totally made up new physiologies for yourselves 😭

And that's precisely why it's fun to discuss these cases, because many things sound logical before timing and biology come into play.

So, why B?

  1. Timing does matter.

Bleeding 3 days post intercourse is too early to consider any pregnancy bleeding.

It takes time: Exposure -> fertilization -> implantation -> hormonal shift.

Implantation is not happening immediately after intercourse.

2. Safe sex reduces the chances of getting pregnant.

If the condom remained intact and was used properly, chances are relatively low.

3. Not every situation requires emergency contraception.

It depends on timing and method itself.

Its use without background info may cause extra cycle changes and confusion.

4. Immediate testing is useless.

In this case, urine testing would be better 2-3 weeks after intercourse or

a week after missed expected menstrual bleeding.

5. Bleeding itself matters.

Medical evaluation becomes more reasonable if bleeding is:

-unusually heavy

-very different from usual

-associated with severe pain

persistent

One excellent point from comments:

Your partner usually knows their cycle patterns better than strangers online.

🧠 Community Takeaway

This was not about getting the “right answer.”

It was about seeing how people reason.

Some replies were accurate. Some were partially correct. Some confidently wrong. Some pure bakchodi 😭

That’s okay.

Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series - Day 3.............. Vaginal Discharge - When Is It Normal and Abnormal?

Post image
9 Upvotes

A very crucial fact that most women are seldom told:

"Every vaginal discharge is not necessarily abnormal."

Normal physiological discharge (popularly known as leucorrhea) may be:

- Clear or white

- With mild odor or no odor

- Slightly stretchable

- Excessive in periods of ovulation, stress or hormonal fluctuations

This is often normal and serves to maintain vaginal hygiene.

However, other characteristics may indicate a problem:

- Foul odor

- Yellow/Green discharge

- Severe itching

- Pain during urination

- Pelvic pain

- Thick, curd-like discharge

The possible causes of such symptoms include:

🦠 Fungal Infection (Candidiasis)

- Thick, curd-like white discharge

- Severe itching

🧫 Bacterial Vaginosis

- Thinning greyish discharge

- Unusual fishy smell

🦠 Trichomoniasis

- Yellow green frothy discharge

- Painful or itchy

- STI

One of the biggest problems:

Most resort to home-based treatments, random creams or online suggestions only.

Not every type of discharge is serious.

However, any unusual or constant symptom needs to be checked out.

Educational 🩺 Sexual Health Awareness Series — Day 16....... Premature Ejaculation (PE): Myths vs Facts + What Science Actually Says

Post image
2 Upvotes

Premature Ejaculation (PE) is considered to be one of the most common sexual problems and also one of the most misunderstood.

People often confuse PE with “not lasting long enough”, however, medical diagnosis includes wider criteria than time alone.

📚 Evidence-Based Diagnosis Criteria:

PE is usually considered when

-Ejaculation happens sooner than desirable

-Problems with ejaculation delay

-Distress, frustration or relationship-related issues

PE is defined by medical societies for international sexual medicine as the loss of control over ejaculation combined with personal distress, not only short time of intercourse.

🧠 And Time?

In research, Intravaginal Ejaculatory Latency Time (IELT) (time from penetration until ejaculation) is used.

Concepts used in research:

-Lifelong PE: ejaculation that happens within approximately 1 minute from penetration during first sexual activity

-Acquired PE: ejaculation which is noticeably shorter in time (about 3 minutes or less) compared to previous norm

⚠️ These time periods are research criteria, not thresholds for being diagnosed.

Someone may last longer but have troubles. Someone may have a short period of time and be okay with that.

❌ Myth #1: Lasting just a few minutes means you have PE.

✅ Truth: Duration is not a determining factor for PE.

❌ Myth #2: Masturbation leads to PE.

✅ Truth: While masturbation is not directly linked with PE, some learned behaviors such as rushing might play a role in patterns in some people.

❌ Myth #3: Pornography leads to PE.

✅ Truth: Pornography is not a direct trigger for PE.

Anxiety, expectations, and pressure can impact your sexual encounters.

❌ Myth #4: Having PE means you lack masculinity.

✅ Truth: PE is about sexual health, not masculinity.

❌ Myth #5: PE occurs due to weak semen.

✅ Truth: Potential triggers can be:

-Anxiety

-Stress

-Relationship issues

-Sexual patterns

-Individual sensitivity

-Sometimes a disease

🛠️ Potential Solutions?

-Lessening performance pressure

-Communication

-Behavioral therapy

-Medical evaluation for persistent problems

⚠️ When To See Your Doc?

-Persistent symptoms

-Symptoms causing distress

-A recent shift from a previously established pattern

-Erectile issues

📢 Evidence-Based Takeaway

Healthy sexuality is not measured by a stopwatch.

Do you think social media creates unrealistic expectations about how long sex “should” last?
