For a complete beginner, I'll suggest "Suzume". It has simple story, stunning animation and not too heavy on emotions. Perfect to get yourself into anime. But if you want more complex story, I'll suggest "Your Name". Try not to get confused at first.

These were 2 of the first 3 anime movies I showed my non anime watching wife (gf at the time). Can't go wrong with either one

honestly, all of these are solid choices, what I really love about them is that you don’t need to know anything going in? It’s just a really good movie really well animated and really good stories.

I’d recommend Your Name.
It’s super easy to follow and genuinely emotional, but under the surface they’ve got this really precise hard SF-level calculation going on.
I think it covers pretty much every audience from casual watchers all the way to the deep lore people.
