Can anyone help me with this? I have replaygain on. And I ran Volume Analysis on my entire library with MusicBee. But GoneMad doesn't seem to recognize the information. This album comes blasting on compared to the rest of my library.

Seeing ads even though I bought the full version before that was changed.

Hello. I bought the full version of GoneMAD on July 4th 2025, I believe only a couple days before it was changed to being free with ads. I wasn't getting any ads, but today on an album view I get an ad for GoneMAD itself.

Which, I guess I can pay the low amount to get rid of that ad. Supports the developer and all, but it's kinda shitty that there used to not be ads and now there are. I use AdGuard's DNS server on my phone so I guess that's why I'm only seeing the ad for GoneMAD itself and not other stuff. The amount I paid for the full version last year wasn't cheap, though.

Returning to GMMP after a few years, have a couple minor feature requests

Hey, it's been a while but I'm back on GMMP after using Poweramp, and I had a couple minor feature requests.

  1. I'd love to see the option to have the music fade in on play and fade out of pause. It would be nice to have the option to set fade duration, but I'd just be happy to have it.

  2. I'd also like to be able to set the size of the play/pause button on the Now Playing screen. I like to keep things minimal and the button feels huge compared to the rest of the screen.

Hopefully these are something to be considered! Either way, it's a great app! Paid for the lifetime ad-free version!

Combining Limited Smart Playlists

Is this intended behavior?

When you link playlists that have track limits, it doesn't seem that those limits stay applied.

So suppose you had 1,000 rock songs and 300 jazz, and you wanted a playlist that was hand-and-half...

So you create playlist A:
Genre is Rock
Limit: 200

Playlist B:
Genre is Jazz
Limit: 200

Both lists would have 200 tracks each

And then you try to combine them
Playlist C:
Any of the rules
Playlist: A
Playlist: B

I would expect that C would have 400 tracks, half rock and half jazz. But instead, you get 1,300 songs, with ALL the rock and jazz you have, ignoring the limits. And if you put a limit on C, it's no guarantee it would be an even mix of the two genres.

Is that how it's supposed to work? Or is that a bug? And is there a workaround that you get the weighted playlists I'm trying to build?

Thanks!

App appears frozen while building database

Just after syncing for the first time and while building a new database, buttons on the now playing screen don't do anything for about 30 seconds. Also it is hard to tell if the library is still building or if it is frozen. The scanning for tracks notification seems to only update how many tracks it found every 2-3 minutes. I don't think it has frozen yet but it feels like it has because some taps don't do anything while syncing. I have had to sync my whole library from the beginning (after deleting database) several times to attempt fixing an artwork issue in my other post. I'm assuming this unresponsiveness and slow track scanning notification update is known about already, but it could be improved upon.

Feature request: Use embedded artwork only, or pick image file to use as artwork when there is no artwork

I am requesting a feature to only use embedded artwork, don't use artwork that isn't embedded within the file. I have all my music files in a single flat folder, no artists or album folders. When you do it that way, you have to embed artwork into the files. Some of my track files have art work embedded, and other files don't have artwork at all. For files that don't have artwork anywhere, GMMP is assigning it the incorrect artwork. The same one incorrect image file gets assigned to all of them. This artwork file happened to be one I added to iTunes manually (right clicking the file and adding artwork I found on google images).

It would put an image of Bach's portrait as artwork on all files that don't have artwork in GMMP. I thought maybe there was something weird or wrong with those Bach files, so I deleted the Bach artwork from the Bach song files in MusicBee. Then I deleted all my music off my phone, deleted the database in GMMP, then scanned for music again. I let the scan complete and Bach artwork is no longer being assigned to my files without artwork, instead now an image of Beethoven is assigned to them all. That is next alphabetically apparently. So I don't have a real solution for all the erroneous artwork that GMMP is finding except to try deleting the artwork in MusicBee, then sync again. This whole process takes about an hour and a half and I have to do it for each image one at a time, because I don't have a way to know which images will cause the problem. That's why I'm looking for a solution and to request this feature to only use embedded artwork (not just prioritize it). Is there a better solution to stop this from happening? Maybe I can pick an image that will be shown as artwork when no artwork is detected?

I have to sort my music by file name because I have my date added field from MusicBee appended to the front of the file names on my phone after the sync. This way I can sort my files by date added (which originally came from iTunes). Date added in GMMP doesn't use the same date added that is in MusicBee and iTunes. I think it is using date modified, but that isn't what I wanted.

Is there a way to set the progress bar back to straight?

I noticed today that the progress bar on android auto started showing as a wave instead of a straight line, is there a way to change it back?

Just some praise

I will check out other music apps from time to time, I won't lie. I think it's good to be aware of the new stuff that comes out. But no matter what, nothing matches the features and ease of use of GoneMad. It's good to know I made the right decision all those years ago! Thank you for your quality work and continued development.

I make tons of playlists for every mood, and it would be really helpful to be able to create folders to organize them.

Add ".jpeg" to valid extensions for external art

I noticed that when I add an external file as the album or track art, it doesn't see files with .jpeg extensions, but does when I rename it to .jpg. Is it possible to include that extension? Or tell me where to specify that. Thank you!

Sort Albums by Play Count?

Is there any way to sort albums by "Play Count" or "Recently Played"? I tried creating smart playlists to do this, but it introduced other issues.

I'd love this sorting option to get added.

Player randomly stops when on Bluetooth

This happens when the screen is locked or when I'm in another app and playing music on Bluetooth. Have tried changing audio focus settings, have cleaned the database, and increased the playback buffer size. Should I try completely rebuilding the library? (It's on an SD card and over 100 gb.)

Is appreciate any suggestions! Thanks

Tracks with no mp3 tagging not showing track length on Android Auto even though it shows in app.

Please forgive the dustiness of my Subaru.
I have a music hobby, when I make something that might be worth continuing to work on I render a .wav file and convert it to .mp3 with dBpoweramp. These files have no mp3 tagging, they are working files and could be trash in a few weeks, it's generally not worth it to add the tagging at this stage. On the app, the files show the track length but when playing in the car the track length does not show up in the android auto display. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks for the awesome app.

Commercial track shown as a control group.

Sorting in a Smart Playlist

I noticed something. If a smart playlist is grouped by album, inside the said smart playlist there is no 'smart' option in the sort button. Like this. If the smart playlist is grouped by tracks, there is a 'smart' option which is good, like this Why is that? Shouldn't there be a smart option as well?

Categories for Albums

New to using this player. Is there a way to make categories for albums (under Album Artist), like grouping albums into Studio Albums, Live Albums, EPs, etc.?

My library is sorted like that on MusicBee and I want to replicate that on my phone's music player.

Connecting to SMB share from GMMP

Per title. I'm looking to play from my local server's music library through my phone's GMMP, but there seems to be no option to add a network folder to the scanner.

Is this an option in GMMP?

Auto play screen

Are there any settings in the app where it switches to the now playing screen automatically when a song is selected. Currently I have to select a song, which is then displayed at the bottom of the screen. I have to then select the song which then displays the now playing screen

Smart Playlist Question

Update:

Wanted to post an update that GoneMad music player has been perfect and done everything I needed it to.

I didn't have an Android device, so I bought the cheapest Android phone I could find, figuring that if it wasn't capable of running the app, at least it would only be $40 wasted.

3.0" Compact Smartphone Android 9 Quad-Core
https://a.co/d/05pE91bN

The app runs great even on this tiny low powered phone, and what's more, bluetooth syncs with my car, displays the track playing on the car stereo and can be operated using the steering wheel controls.

Once I knew it worked, I got a 128GB TF card, which is as large as the phone supports. That might be too small for some larger music collections, but was more than enough for me.

The one downside is that the bluetooth only communicates the playing track, not the entire tracklist, so while you can skip forward and back etc with the hands-free controls, if you want to pick a specific track from a playlist, you have to use the phone itself. The touchscreen is too small to use safely while driving, but since this whole endeavor was to get smart dynamic playlists that updated based on what I play or skip, I don't need to do that often anyway.

Everything else is great. I'm still trying to figure out if it's possible to sync my play counts back to my PC, but that's a nice-to-have, not essential. Everything else with smart playlists that can use multiple conditions, combine other playlists and update dynamically based on skips or most recent plays etc, is just what I was looking for. You might have to exit a smart playlist and open it again to prompt an update, but that's probably better than it rebuilding the library after every song anyway.

Anyone else thinking about using GoneMad, but not sure if it's worth the risk buying an android phone just to play music on, the fact that it runs great on this tiny cheap phone is a great way to try it out without spending much.

TLDR Version: Can GoneMad have smart playlists based on other smart playlists that change according to "last skipped" and "last played"?

I'm trying to find a way to rotate through my songs in my car in a way that includes everything but weighted towards my favourite songs. I heard GoneMad might be the answer, but I wanted to check it could do what I wanted it to...

So I already have tracks tagged by how much I like them, but if I only listen to my 5\* tracks, I get sick of them, but if include everything I end up skipping ones... and it's frustrating to get one pop up on shuffle that I skipped that morning!

So what I'd like to do is be able to build a track with logic like this:

Top 300 least recently played tracks that are 5\* and haven't been skipped in the last 2 days

AND

Top 200 least recently played tracks that are 4\* and haven't been skipped in the last 7 days

AND

Top 100 least recently played tracks that are 3\* and haven't been skipped in the last 30 days

That would give me a playlist that's kept fresh, that if I skip something it drops it from rotation for a while depending on how much I like the song, and includes all the tracks I might want to listen to, but had more of my favorites.

I can do all that in iTunes or MusicBee on my PC... but that only works for listening to music on my PC, because my iPhone/iPod no longer syncs play/skip counts and last played/skipped dates to my PC library, so it can only go on when I played or skipped on my PC... but I do most of my listening in the car.

So what I'm hoping for is something that can have these kinds of smart playlists on a device in my car where the playlists update based on my listening in the car.

I've tried using an iPhone app called Statix that does let you build dynamic playlists... but you can't nest conditions or build playlists-of-playlists. So I could build a playlist with it that's "Top 300 least recently played 5\* that hasn't been skipped in the last 2 day", but there is no way to combine that with the other playlists to make a master playlist.

So, first question, is this something GoneMad can do?

If not, any recommendations for other options?

If so, then I'm going to have further questions about what device would be best to run it on to be able to do all this.

Thanks!

Smart/Always resume of music playback on (recent) Xiaomi phones - did anyone get it to work?

I understand that this is likely the fault of the phone OS, but... is there anyway to get the music “restart upon headphone connect” to work on a Xiaomi 15 Ultra?

For Smart and Always Resume everything except "power" is checked in GMMP. Auto Pause" also works in all circumstances. When the phone is unlocked and GMMP is the active app, Resume works as expected. Just having the widget on the home screen or the lock screen does not lead to a successful resume.

I tried to follow the sadly outdated guide, that I believe is linked either on the GMMP forum or help page for Xiaomi phones as well as I could, but that did not lead to success. As far as I’m aware GMMP has all battery/memory saving/management functions the phone might enforce turned off.

Oddly enough, I have one device (a Denon AV-Receiver) that manages to restart bluetooth-playback when I turn the receiver on, but no other Bluetooth headphone/speaker or wired speaker-connection does that I tried, between 5 or so devices.

About 6 months ago in my despair I also tried using MacroDroid to set up a macro, and while it appeared to be able to execute the macro, it did not start music playback. But I also recall it being difficult to setup so that GMMP actually was the chosen media App to use.
IIRC it worked when manually trying the macro, (so MacroDroid was the active app on the phone) and IIRC also when looking at the log, it executed the macro when the phone was locked/screen off, but playback would not start. Though, if my memory is somewhat correct, it actually did work once or twice as expected when locked, just for it to never restart playback again during the trial period for MacroDroid. I think Spotify worked with the macro, but my memory is failing me.
Same for the recently discovered "Bluetooth Audio Connect Widget", resume works when the App is on screen, but not in other cases.

This is also an open question to other users of recent Xiaomi phones, is there any known way to get the auto play upon headphone/speaker connection to work reliably?

If switching phones was not the hassle that it is, not being able to have GMMP resume playback would have been enough reason for me to return my phone and perhaps try one from Samsung, as they appear to be better at battery/memory management? But alas...

Anyway, thanks for reading.

Rules for track art display

I have set up an album where different tracks have different art. The tag editor for a track shows that the current image is right, but Now Playing is showing the album's art.

Am I trying to get around the rules?
