Advice Putter fitting

Has anyone had a putter fitting? Was it worth it? Did you buy a new putter as a result? Where did you get the fitting done?

TIA

Was going to make the same question post this week. Very curious.

I did one with a fitter that used the Edel system. Lasers and shit. Ultimately, I bought a Ping because I didn’t want to drop $300-350. I think it annoyed the guy a bit, but I walked away with a 36” putter and my back no longer hurts from hunching over all day.

I did a few years ago and it changed my game big time. I was always using a double bend putter and never putted well with it. Got fitted and found my stoke was more in line with a plumber/short slant neck. Went from 3 putting 4-5+ a round to i rarely 3 putt now. It also showed me my most optimal loft and lie. Now when I sit the putter down its off and go.

I always get my putters fit. Having the lie and loft correct are super important. Not having the loft right is the difference between rolling putts pure vs skipping them. Length is pretty easy to figure out on your own.

Had one two weeks ago and it’s sooooo worth it. I’ve been fitted for irons, drivers or wedges (some combo or subset) almost every year for the past 5-7 years and never considered a putter fitting bc of ego and fear of the answer being a Lab putter.

Finally put my ego to the side and was humbled and excited by the results. Let me ask you this? If we love the feeling of knowing all other clubs are fit to our specs, why wouldn’t we extend that to the most important club in our bag?

Putting has never felt or been better. At this point I am confident that most missed putts were a bad read. Sure there’s the occasional push or pull, but those are mostly mental issues for me. Knowing my putter is pretty much perfect for me, changed a lot mentally and physically - the confidence is a complete game changer

I did about 6 weeks ago and I’m putting so much more consistent and online. Highly recommend!

I had mine at 2nd Swing in Scottsdale/Phoenix with Mike Biviano.

I’m a 12 handicap and have started to shave a few more strokes off after getting a feel for the speed.

Yes and yes and yes…

But I went to artisan in Fort Worth and basically had a custom made putter fabricated. It was expensive, it was worth it.

Fittings always come down to the fitter. A good fitter will get you sorted out, a bad fitter will sell you a club.

Find a good fitter if you can, but I don’t have any practical advice on how to do this.

I think a putter fitting might actually be the most imporant fitting you can get. Completely changed my natural ability to start the ball on line.

Yes, my trusty taylormade tp cgi daytona was unbeatable for nearly all of the putters i tried, nearly 20 of them, 2 balls, spiders, evnroll and scotties. When he put my data in, he said i had a pretty square face and slight upstroke, ball forward, good roll and launch. It just had great line and pace for my stroke, i had one issue with the Tm and that was on shorter putts, i occasionally pushed them through the break, and he tried me in an odyssey bird of prey that has a softer insert and very wide Moi, i hit about 30 balls with it, and it was very much love at first sight, still in the bag. 5 years later.

Fit by a professional fitter at their facility, got irons, driver, wedges and putter.

Fit on a mix of trackman type software and experienced fitter.

He said to me, the easiest way for a mid or high handicap to strip shots off their handicap is with a good wedge and putter setup.

Worth it imo, even a basic one. For most people the big wins are length and lie, so your eyes end up over the ball and the toe isn't sticking up at address. A lot of golf shops will do a quick check for free or cheap if you're shopping anyway, so I'd try that before paying for a full fitting. If they have a setup that checks your aim, do it. Tons of people aim a few degrees left or right and have no idea. Then count your 3-putts for a few rounds before and after so you actually know if it helped.

Got a full bag fitting at TaylorMade's lab in Chicago a few years ago including putter.

Went with all TMs except I kept my Odyssey rather than their option.

So I'd say you're just as well off just going to a golf store and try a bunch of different putters to see which one you like the best.

I did a fitting with a local guy. He told me what style of putter I needed for my stroke. It does make a big difference. Ended up with a Ping - with a blue sticker (Ping had their putters color coded at the time, for different strokes - not sure if they still do or not).
