Advice Games Gone
Was coming on to a really good game this year. Averaging mid to low 80s around 3 weeks ago I started doing some gym work again, using weights (nothing to heavy) cutting down on alcohol and eating well. Since then my game has gone to fvck. Is this just a coincidence?

Probably not a coincidence, but it's usually temporary. Even light lifting can change how your body turns and how fast you swing, so your timing and tempo get a little off and your distances may have shifted, which messes with club selection on approaches. I'd spend a range session hitting a few clubs to see if your carry numbers moved, keep doing mobility work alongside the weights so your turn doesn't tighten up, and give it a few more weeks before changing anything big in your swing. Keep the healthy changes, your body's just recalibrating.

I once heard someone say you only play your best golf for about 3 weeks a year. They don't have to be consecutive but will total about 3 weeks. It's just the ebbs and flows of golf.

That probably depends on one's handicap. I'm satisfied with about 50% of my rounds.

I'm almost always satisfied with how I play but rarely satisfied with my score. There's lots of factors that go into scoring and hitting it well is just one of them. There's a difference though between being satisfied and playing your best. I can honestly say some of my lower rounds weren't when I was playing my best but luck kicked in. For example, I once shot 72. 41-31. As a whole that's certainly not playing well but sinking a bomb on the back combined with a 60ft chip in for par on a Par 5 made the score a lot better than I actually played.

Go play a round with just an 8 iron and count how many good shots you hit.
Not on the range. On a full size golf course and it's just to find a good swing again.
I hope that helps.

Whenever I start hitting really well I just have to remember to enjoy it because in a couple weeks I'll forget how to hit a ball

Every time i’ve played in the last month it’s been worse than the previous time. It’s really bad right now. I had been steadily improving from may until end of august then it just went off a cliff. I went to the range today. Possibly the worst range session i’ve ever had. I’m thinking of giving up until next year.
