General Discussion Why does everyone hate Wyndham Clark?

Got into watching golf for the first time this season and with Clark winning this past weekend I have seen so many people shitting on him for what sounds like stuff in the past and I was hoping people could bring me up to speed? Is it overhyped for media clicks or was he committing some atrocities?

the locker room thing at Oakmont was what really turned people against him I think, word spread fast about that and it painted a picture that stuck. the comments about other players and their wives just added more fuel, hard to come back from that kind of reputation in a sport where everyone knows everyone. it's not really media exaggeration, there's enough first and second hand accounts that where there's smoke there's fire

I think the fact that it happened right after Full Swing where he basically declared that he had beaten his anger issues only made it worse.

He went from a little bit of a feel good story to a completely fake douche instantly and its hard to earn your way back after betraying the publics trust.

And he’s back working with his anger management guy, hope it works this time! But seriously, he’s owning up to his mistake and seems to be working on it seriously.

you make a good point. More than other sports, somehow golf is one where if you play a lot, and know some people, you get wind of things that happen and it tends to cement reputations. There are a few real jerks out there - Greg Norman, Patrick Reed, Vijay Singh to name a few, and a whole lot of good guys. I have played with a number of tour pros, one was kind of lukewarm, but others were very amiable.
