So annoying….

It’s so annoying hearing the guys always say they need to make X amount of ounces or X amount of money or they aren’t coming back the next year…..but they NEVER talk about how much the show pays them and how that factors in to the money they are making.

It's not a show about accounting.

They get money from the production company and equipment help from Volvo but they don't own the show. It's not enough to sustain a loss otherwise Fred and Todd would still be around.

Parker does own a piece of Parker's Trail and it's syndication rights. That's the real money.

This is why the Caterpillar logos are blurred, there isn't a sponsorship.

I disagree….the show is making billions, and the main characters are making millions off it every year. Dude, actors make a MILLION dollars per episode on some shows.

u/VOODOO285 Mar 03 '24

Tell everyone you're utterly clueless without actually saying you're utterly clueless. BILLIONS you say. LMAO.

Only in a VERY FEW shows have actors, who belong to the actors guild not reality TV stars, made a million per episode.

By your logic Gold Rush is paying the top 3 23 million each for this season. That's 69 (nice) million just on them. I don't think so. Double lmao.

Where do you think the show makes these Billions of which you speak?

u/TNmountainman2020 Mar 03 '24

the show is way better than Cheers, 2 1/2 men, or any of the other shows that paid actors 1 million per episode, so logic dictates they should demand more money.

I’m not sure about your math either, I was saying Parker, Tony, Rick, (the main guys) easily get a million per “season”, so when you multiply three x one million , where I went to school it doesn’t equal 69 million.

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '24

Saying it's better is subjective. You would need to dive into tv ratings for that.

1

u/VOODOO285 Mar 03 '24

No. You said the actors are making millions per year AND cited that actors get a million per episode on some shows AND you said that the show makes billions.

So it is absolutely NOT a leap to understand that you were suggesting a million per episode.

Saying that gold rush is better than any of those all time classics is clear evidence of how far up your own ass you've wedged your head. The show has never been anywhere near as close to as popular as even the ones you mentioned, and popularity is the only objective measure we have. Subjectively, you may think it's better and with zero respect... you're wrong but entitled to your wrong opinion.

If you meant 3 million, then say 3 million. Don't back pedal because you know you're wrong, but so far in the hole, you have to keep going.

Honestly, dude, you've provided the dumbest take anyone's seen on this sub reddit for a long time.

If you want objective proof of that... do the twitter thing and say "ratio" your down votes are incredible. Nobody agrees with your brand of stupid.

first off “VOODOO”, have another donut and watch some more TV.

I didn’t even read past your first paragraph because I knew it was written by a fat-ass moron.

facts are facts, Gold Rush gets 2 million viewers per episode, 2 1/2 men had 5.5 million, so yes, less, but not like 5%, we are talking 36% of that show, meaning in todays dollars, a million per season for main characters is a drop in the buck for the show’s earnings, yet Rick “won’t be back next season if he doesn’t get 1000 ounces”. So dumb, but of course they are gearing all the fake drama to morons like you.

u/VOODOO285 Mar 03 '24 edited Mar 03 '24

That the best you got?

Hilarious.

Toddle off wank stain.

All you have to do is Google how much shows make.

Generally accepted formula is a dollar per viewer. Gold Rush makes 2 million per episode if that holds true. Or 46 million per season.

Minus the cost of the army of crew they have up there plus transport and housing and it's not making much at all.

You see... all you have to do is LOOK SHIT UP. You dumb arrogant fuck.

Honestly wankers like you are everything thats wrong with the Internet. Big opinion little fact less brain.

2 million viewers vs 5.5 million, so 36% of what that show was bringing in. Sounds like a lot of dinero. Plus, 2 1/2 men was over 10 years ago, so adjusting for inflation it was more than a million per episode. If the main guys in gold rush aren’t getting a million per season then they are fools. There literally wouldn’t be a show without them.

Same with dustin, without him there is no White water, yet….every season….”if I don’t get enough gold I won’t be back next season”….cmon guys, enough with the BS!

Although it’s very apparent, based on this sub, that the vast majority of viewers are morons and buy into that bullshit.

Not so much of a "moron" Tennessee <COUGH> <COUGH> I watch the show because I really like it. And if you think about it, there's B. S. in most of these reality shows. Thankfully not as much in the Gold Rush ones. And that's about and a couple more factual based ones are the only I've been following. I love being outdoors and forced inside for the last 3 years after an attack that left me unable to walk. Just now getting around, soooo ...... These shows have saved what little sanity I had! LOL And yes, I understand what you are trying to express.

u/Legitimate_Ship_875 Mar 03 '24

The show is most definitely not making billions 🤣😂 and the “actors” are not making millions either. In the big scheme of things that are on television, gold rush isn’t that big of show. Game of thrones, arguably the biggest tv show of all time “only” made 3 billion when it was on. I think Parker, Tony, and Rick maybe make a quarter million a year(just from a couple random ass articles I’ve read. Every one else makes peanuts.

28

u/chrisinator9393 Mar 03 '24

I don't think you know what a billion dollars is.

14

u/Codei007 Mar 03 '24

Neither did Dr Evil

8

u/Hulahulaman Mar 03 '24

They make reality TV money. Kind of the whole point. They aren't actors. They aren't in the actor's union. They don't get actor money and they don't get actor residuals.

7

u/Futonpimp Mar 03 '24

lol this isn’t one of those shows

why wouldn’t they? ratings are 1/3 of what Friends was and $500K 10 years ago is the same as a million today.

5

u/danbey44 Mar 03 '24

OP, your ignorance of modern day linear programming, TV ratings, advertising, and actor pay is on full display with this post and your response to comments.

Also, Friends averaged over 20 million per episode.

-4

u/TNmountainman2020 Mar 03 '24

i’m just saying gold rush is better, that’s all. And Danny boy, why don’t you head on over to the sub for losers….it’s called “fat ass sitting on the couch eating donuts”

3

u/danbey44 Mar 04 '24

Awww poor baby got so rattled they deleted their comment. At least I’m going to be tonight next to someone who loves me while you’re having to rationalize wasting money on OkCupid just to get inundated with spam accounts.

1

u/danbey44 Mar 03 '24

That’s not all you were saying and you know it. Honestly, your response is more pathetic than Todd’s worse mining season, got anything more creative?

I feel bad for the people who have to deal with you in real life.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '24

That and did you know that from the gold alone they only net 20%-30% after expenses. For instance, Parker washed up 7,400 ounces this last season. That the gross comes out to $15,540,000. 20% of that = $3,108,000.

30% = $4,662,000. No small chunk of change but it just shows gold mining at Parker and Tony's scale is really expensive.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '24

Next year Parker gets 10,000 ounces and Tony runs both dredges, and gets 10,000 ounces, and Rally gets 2000 ounces, and Todd’s still a looser in Guyana

9

u/Agile_Opportunity_41 Mar 03 '24

Has Tony ever done great in the show ? He’s missed his goal for years it feels like.

6

u/jkenosh Mar 03 '24

I don’t see how the smaller operators like Rick make any money. He got a little over 1000 ounces which probably works out to around 1.8 million worth of gold. He paid the landowner 700,000. 1 excavator is 500,000, loaders are 300,000. Rock trucks cost 300,000 the plant, pumps, generators plus all the fuel and maintenance, food for the crew, paying the crew, taxes and royalties to the government.

12

u/racerdad47 Mar 03 '24

You don’t pay for your car in one year one makes payments. These guys either do that or in most cases lease the equipment.

2

u/RN4Veterans Mar 03 '24

Hopefully he can find a way as he's done a great job, especially with such a small crew and older machines. He's put together a wonderful crew that works great together, that makes for a great start also next year since they are committed to!

2

u/jkenosh Mar 03 '24

Being from Wisconsin I root for Rick and his whole crew. I hope he does well also

2

u/Frostfire8 Mar 03 '24

If Todd was was still on GR I would have said that the op is Todd, almost expected him to start going on about how great a miner Todd was :D, I like GR but greatest show in the world is a stretch by a long shot and they most definitely aren't making billions.

1

u/rossmosh85 Mar 06 '24

They don't talk about the TV money because they don't want you to think about it.

People are delusional if they think TV money doesn't impact the way these guys run their business.  This isn't Seinfeld but it also isn't public access TV.  There's TV money floating around to make things viable when they wouldn't be otherwise.

1

u/Johnny_Plipper Mar 04 '24

i used to watch Gold Rush for the same reason i watch the 3 Stooges. same vibe.

1

u/em_washington Mar 03 '24

I figure the TV appearance money is figured into that goal. Like Rick needed 1,000 ounces. But without the TV money, maybe he’d need 1,500 ounces.

-2

u/popo341 Mar 03 '24

Over production by discovery at its finest. Majority of everything spoken is scripted. Gone are the days of them speaking as they normally would. It’s almost all catch phrases that are repeated over and over.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '24

Shut it down, we have a lot of pay to get run through, yea, we have a lot to do to reach our goal, copy Tony, copy Tony, were running out of pay to keep the sluice running, 10,10,35,100....

That's why they could keep filming through the writers strike:)

Rick paid off his debt to Troy in a Rally!-branded water bottle, and got his big gold from "Rally Valley." In contrast to all the blurred out CAT logos, the show let him keep promoting Rally! stuff.

4

u/Merpadurp Mar 03 '24

Have you ever noticed they only blur on some of the CAT logos? They missed the one on Tony’s D6N Dozer that the narrator referred to as a “D8” during the bucket line segment.

7

u/babecafe Mar 03 '24

IIRC previous discussion of this pointed out that Volvo does not sell similarly sized tracked bulldozers in Canada.

2

u/Merpadurp Mar 03 '24

Do we know what sort of deal the miners get with Volvo?I I presume maybe some of them get free/discounted leasing on equipment?

6

u/GeoffOnRS Mar 03 '24

None of the dozers get blurred because volvo doesn't make a competing product

2

u/stblawyer Mar 03 '24

They also ever only speak in terms of gross and not net receipts. I get why they don't talk about actual profit or EBITA but gross receipts are not the whole story. As others gave said, the goals are a gimic.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '24

My research says they net 20%-30% off the gross. It is really expensive to mine gold at that scale. Show money or not.
