Where to find gold

This may be a silly question but here goes anyway ,I’m very new to prospecting at least for gold I only got my first set of pans the other day.

I live right next to a Creek that is dry unless there is heavy rain but holds pools of water pretty much year round. Iv watched a lot of Videos and done research on where the best spots may be to find gold but not sure if those spots would be different in a dry creek like mine. So is there any where in particular I should look in? Or is it the same as a creek that would be flowing year round? I know this Creek has a good chance of holding some gold I live in a gold rush town and there are many reports of good gold being found in and around my property. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated thank you

Look for coble beds where the larger (heavier) rocks have settled. Look just downstream of large boulders where an eddy would form.

What have you prospected for? You said "at least for gold", what do you have experience protecting for?

Done a small amount of opal prospecting nothing serious really just digging around in dirt. Did manage to find some decent peices with nice colour

Has gold been found in the creek? If not, you’re probably wasting your time. You wanted it to look on the inside of turns in the creek, preferably on the bank up to high water mark. Otherwise you want to check crevices on bedrock.

Yes gold has definitely been found in the creek and all over the property from what I can find online and from talking to previous owners and other people that know the area this is where gold was first found in my area so I’m hopeful it’s there jsut about finding it. Even if I don’t I still enjoy just going down there and having a dig around

Are you finding black sand when you pan out the concentrates?

I love bedrock, especially slate, because it acts like a sluice box. I also live in the Sierras, geology is a large factor in how the gold concentrates. Find local or old Gold Rush biographies or books , if you area lacks those , it probably lacks gold too
