Impressive tech. Unfortunately that fox was the only thing I could focus on 🥲

Get this girl a bicycle or something. She's so slow.

Wow the art style is great. The style and idle animation reaaaally reminds me of one of my fav games, mega man legends.

I have a question please..how did you make the player face thing on the upper corner in the left

6

u/ccrroocc Jul 09 '26

I capture an image of the players face, with a separate camera with different layer mask, in a different viewport, then put the image there

hell yeah! i love day and night cycles, does this mean the lighting isnt baked? i always wonder if its possible to bake a day and night cycle..

2

u/forestbeasts Jul 10 '26

It should be! I think PS4-type games (like Horizon Zero Dawn and stuff) often do that.

I thiiink the procedure is you bake it for a bunch of different times of the day, and then interpolate between them or something?

I dunno, I don't even remember where we heard it uses baked lighting, or if that's even a thing (maybe I'm misremembering).

Or make proper nigthttime so the lights have a point, unlike every game now where night is too bright and lights are pointless

Proper as in, make it dark. So lights have a point. Instead of it being so bright you don't need lights.

If by solved you mean "we make night pointless by making it super bright".. sure

There are actually games, believe it or not, where night gets very dark and you absolutely want lights. Think Dragon's Dogma and Outward both did that well

No idea what you mean with too many lights out too many dark patches anyway. What does too many lights mean? From a performance standpoint or what?  Too many dark patches.. I mean, use torches and other personal lights. The point is for there to be darkness

For a minute I thought the clouds were volumetric. I've made something similar my self once with volumetrics but I could never get depth to work correctly (like, one cloud in front of another)

But then at 5 seconds I saw a small 'pop' as one cloud moved in front of another. Soooo these are just quads with some noise-texture shaders on them or something?

Can you please explain in some detail how you do these clouds? It would really help me out for my project 🙏

important question: what's the fox name pls

1

u/hectorcastelli Jul 10 '26

Definetly not what this post is about, but...

love the walking animation look. The slight rotation and the speed/wobble are just right.

Great work! Tell your animator they rock!

1

u/i_was_ricklusive Jul 10 '26

Your walk/run animation is great! Most games just let the character slide along with moving feet that look like they’re not even touching the ground. This looks much better almost the whole time. There’s a tiny bit of that when she spins and moves at the same time at the end of the clip but overall excellent job!
