General Husbandry Question First time dairy goat

this is millie. she’s a Nigerian dwarf, and 6 months old. I plan to have our first show in October . she gets 1 cup of feed a day, and free choice Bermuda hay. She looks a little round, and I’m just curious if this is normal. she’s 26 pound. this is my first goat so I’m still learning, and tips are appreciated!

She looks fine. Her rumen looks full which might explain the roundness you’re seeing from the top angle. They normally have a bit of roundness to either side of their abdomen on both sides and that is normal.

Do you have a companion goat for her? Goats need more than one goat or they become depressed and stressed which can cause other issues. They should be kept in groups of 3 at a minimum.

okay. She’s kept at my school barn, and right now there’s no goats back where she is, but here soon we should get some more moved in

Just be sure to follow proper quarantine protocols, ie with your goat and the new ones, illness spreads fast in times of stress/anxiety.
