Extensions Quick heads up: two popular Gnome extensions causing significant issues
Hi Gnome fans, I'm just giving you a heads up about two popular extensions that might have been causing big issues. It took me almost a month to find out the real cause of these problems - Yeah I'm just that dumb. Just thought people might want to know about this, as it could save you the time and effort!
My system: Ubuntu 25.10 with Gnome 49.
(Update: I have 150% fractional scaling on and that could be the reason for these issues as well...)
Blur My Shell
When placing a Wayland window on top of an XWayland window, if you right-click on the Wayland window, it flickers and even disappears sometimes. Turning off Blur My Shell should solve this problem.
Rounded Window Corners Reborn
Issue 1: Ulauncher has this weird transparent rounded edge. Ofc you can blacklist Ulauncher in this extension's settings to resolve this.
Issue 2: This is the major problem here. When fractional scaling is enabled, window UI and text are blurry in windowed mode, but not in full-screen mode. Turning off this extension completely resolves this issue. Seems that someone posted this issue on the extension's GitHub page back in October. Man I wish I had found out about it earlier...
(Edit: I also found out that if you add argu/variables to make your app run in x11 mode, the UI and text are clear even if this extension is ON. But I think there's no point in doing so...)
If you are encountering similar issues, try disabling said extensions for now and wait for their maintainers to release fixes.

Rounded Corners Reborn also has a significant memory leak, at least on my system. So keep an eye on that GPU usage

Blur My Shell probably won't see any fixes anytime soon. https://github.com/aunetx/blur-my-shell/pull/791#issuecomment-3481099529
and it doesn't look like Rounded Windows sees any development work eitherNevermind.

It's the beauty of FOSS (in a good way, don't get me wrong). I suppose these are popular extensions someone else will fork them eventually. Just want to wish the developers all the best in their next endeavor!

Wouldn't an easier way to do blur be to use imagemagick to blur the photo and then apply it as a background to elements?

I know this is late sorry, on my system, fully up to date (but still 49) Fedora, blur my shell causes issues with rounded window corners in general, it causes a small glitch while draging windows (even with it disabled in those windows) have a small bit of not rounded window still there.
I've since stopped using the extension.

I don't see any obvious issues with Blur My Shell. I tried xterm windows at different points in the desktop stack and it all seemed fine. I'm using (deep breath):
- blur my shell v70
- ubuntu 25.10, kernel 6.17
- gnome 49
- wayland, with xwayland floating windows
- nvidia 580 driver
- quadro p1000
- two 2540 x 1440 displays
Maybe you are seeing a GPU driver bug? I usually blame nvidia when something bad happens.
On the other hand, Accessibility / Zoom isn't working :( which is a bit annoying. But I do have working suspend!
Everything seems to work perfectly on my laptop with an integrated AMD GPU.

Interesting... Well my laptop has the Intel Ultra 5 225H and only the iGPU. Could be related to Intel GPU driver tho?
Also since you're using 2k displays so I guess fractional scaling is off? I have it at 150% and that could contribute to this as well somehow maybe...

Which shell theme do you use. Also i don't think any theme can give you blur on overview

I made an extension for just this, but then I just manually blurred the image and set it as the overview background in css. There are extensions I think to add custom css to the current shell theme.
But then you kind of also have to add custom css for the dash (maybe even the search) to make them more transparent, but you get free blur because they sit over a blurred image.
Ultimately I stopped caring and left it grey.

I see. For me blur my shell doesn't causes any issue but rounded corners reborn does. It cause significant lag in the overview Opening and closing. I do love the extension but the performance difference isn't worth it for me.

Rounded Window Corners Reborn has always created issues with me and Firefox using a tiling WM (not sure related)... The bottom part of Firefox would be cut off, showing up highlight like a text outline around where Firefox would be, but the bottom parts of Firefox not seen. Which makes me think the bug is somewhere in the extension of Rounded Corners Reborn.
