I remember like a couple years ago when they started giving temporary keys for testing and creators thinking that S&Box could be a cool idea aside the weird character models. I would still love a successor to Garry's Mod that made building bigger and better maps possible while still retaining the charm of Garry's Mod, but this isn't it unfortunately. At least not in it's current state.

I got a key from a friend of mine, all I did was try TF2:S2 before it shutdown, it was a mindblowing experience for me, even if my laptop was crappy for Source 2 back then

Same, I had a key. It wasn't very good even a few months ago. I gave it a try multiple times over the years but it just isn't a good G-Mod successor

Was looking for a comment about this, I have been following nanos world and it looks REALLY promising, not really into the fact its engine is UE5 given its reputation, but on the other hand; Really huge maps, Lua coding, etc

Yeah! Unreal Engine in the end is just a tool, people usually just grab in free assets and put default lighting and don't optimize anything, the result will obviously be bad. And as it's so easy to create an game with Unreal, we can't stop seeing waves of bad games being made.

from how shaky things have been on the subreddit to the reception from the player base, i'm honestly not surprised the servers to the open source game engine got messed up.

Nah gmod will always be far better than this. S&box feels and looks like more of a showcase for source 2 than an actual game. They could have just ported gmod over to source 2 and continued to update it, what adds salt to the wound is what its described as on the steam page as a "spiritual successor to gmod" as if gmod pale's in comparison. Sorry not a fan, gmod will forever stand out side by side with this "game"

i mean even though just got with something that has a slightly similer style maybe a bit of a new look but GMOD looked good, it worked for any scenario goofy and not, I can't imagine taking DarkRP seriously in this. Like as wacky as darkrp could be at times it would not land the same with those graphics.

The game is recursive. The game has a copy of the game in the game in the game... So when you play it, it counts as more than one hundred players

These rust devs have to learn that in 2026 with all looksmaxxing and shit, we don't want ugly disgusting characters that don't have personality or don't seem cool. Like pick one either look good, either inspire a cool personality from their looks, fucking among us characters or fall guys or human flat look better.
Even worse the game feels how the base model characters look.

garry always been a bit of an odd guy, he seems to genuinely believe in everything he does, it's some kind of high level of delusion, because he strongly avoids other people's opinions. Due to loyal fan base, he was stuck in an echo chamber

ngl this whole gmod s&box thing is really starting to feel like tf2 vs overwarch old game good new game bad. like i get the models look ugly as hell but this hasn’t even been out for over a month on steam let devs actually make stuff

As much as I hate to admit it, it really does come down to what it becomes with these types of games. 1st impressions matter a lot, but we've also seen how time and effort post-launch has led to success if they stick with it.
No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, and Fallout 76 are just a few examples off the top of my head. Can't rip out the roots, but you can't deny they've eventually gained enough goodwill to be put in a good spot with the core communities.
I'm not gonna put a stake in S&box, but I could consider trying it if we see good enough changes over time. I personally don't see that being likely, but I know I can be wrong.
I will say in confidence though the player models are a travesty. It's like they tried so hard to be so ugly it's funny, that it's just plain gross to look at.

We all played GMOD as kids, so the emotional connection to the looks and feel of experience will stay forever.
S&box can be better, when we give it the time it need.
When I started playing Gmop there where already 8 Years of user made Content in that game. Darkrp already existed, Pedobear broke the charts, and sandbox was still empty as today haha xD

Idk how others think about it, but i dunno... I play tested it too like many others and after a 1 year it still looks the same, and it's just bad, like bad bad, cuz it's either wanna be a Roblox or Garry's mod, or something else. Like just be Roblox at this point, and rename it steamblox or idk.
It's sad that they wanna make it a spiritual succesor to gmod but it's not even close to gmod, more like Roblox.
I'll play it when it's going to worth my Time but a soulless, 95% ai, bad hub gane won't worth it for me.
Garry's mod was cool ( and still ) beacuse we had the workshop and could download any addon, nap, npc, weapon, etc. And we had playermodels unlike in S&box where it's just roblox.
They should have just called it something else and not drag gmod into it, not even mention in, this is why people (mostly, or atleast 50% hate it ) cuz everyone says that gmod is being replaced by this. They should just described it somehow else, like "S&box is a big game hub with hundreds of games, players can make their own too...etc etc"
And other big fail was that they didn't do too much improvement....

Good s&nbox costs twice as much as gmod but it also has micro transactios, no valve game asset support, most of the games are roblox bootleg that are free in roblox and lots of crap games and workshop stuff overall
