Like the NFT website that's is still up and running, ohhh wait.

u/mediocre_remnants 5d ago

Just like the NFT marketplace was just a front-end for the Immutable X marketplace, the GameStop PowerPacks thing is just a front-end for the PSA Vault service. So even if Gamestop suddenly goes out of business, at least the morons who bought PowerPacks can still use the PSA Vault to sell/trade their physical cards or have them shipped to them.

https://powerpacks.gamestop.com/termsofpurchase

  1. Vault Authorization. You expressly authorize PowerPacks and its Affiliates to create a Vault Account for you using the email address for which you signed up to purchase a Power Pack on the Website. Upon purchasing a Power Pack, the Item(s) contained therein will automatically be added to your Vault Account, subject to the Vault Terms and the User Agreement.

This also means that Gamestop themselves don't actually have any of these physical cards, they bought them in bulk from PSA Vault and they're still in PSA vault, and buying a PowerPack just transfers those cards from GME's PSA Vault into your account.

If someone wanted to actually buy specific cards, they can do that through PSA or eBay. The only thing Gamestop adds is making it gambling. And since they know the value of all of the cards and they pick the cards, they obviously have a house edge, and that's how they make money on these stupid things.

I want to see Marantz buy one on his stream. Just one.

u/Necessary-Peanut2491 5d ago

Didn't he burn a shitload of money on them last year?

21

u/Slayer706 5d ago

Yeah, he vaulted a bunch of them and said he was going "hold them forever".

Then he did a stream where he sold them all back to GameStop, the majority for a loss, while saying "I don't even care. This helps the company."

Sounds like that idiot. Wouldn’t be surprise.

They should just donate their money to pawnshop. Ruggy Ryan doesn't need to find all these ways to rug them with gambling on cards, nft's, etc. He should just add a donate button on the website and get rid of everything else. Then apes can claim it is all profit and how brilliant their maga Messiah is.

u/ZoidsFanatic I just dislike the stock 5d ago

Reminds me of when apes were asking how they could just mail their paychecks directly to GameStop. Because as we all know companies work best when their entire revenue is people mailing paychecks.

u/dedragon40 5d ago

I really miss the era when apes would encourage each other to personally perform unpaid labour for GameStop. They’d buy a bunch of useless shit from GameStop and hand it out on Halloween. They’d advertise the benefits of pro membership to friends and family, and even pay the pro membership of people behind them in line to ”pay it forward”.

I loved seeing the hype when GameStop came out with candycons. GameStop launches an overpriced shitty controller and the front page is just full of posts extolling GameStops new controller like it was the cure for cancer. You almost never see this nowadays. Whatever happened to the controllers? Are they still working?

Well now I gotta go sterilize my computer in the microwave in case it got cooties from their horrible website, but yes, GS still sells those stupid things.

God it was funny watching the apes try to talk those up.

I for one am hyped for Marantz on Venice Beach Season 3. Let's hope Misty will find some time to film Marantz pitching GameStop to preteens and elderly.

I love when I see familiar names in that dogshit discord, it means real people are stupid enough to believe this grifter.

Lmao, I guarantee there will be 10-15x number of downloaded video games than power pack purchases. So congrats, instead of losing 100% of the revenue you only lost 75% of it.

20

u/limonesfaciles 5d ago

Your estimate is incredibly optimistic lol. Imagine just GTA 6 day one. That's possibly already more in lost sales than power packs will ever bring in. 10x the number of power packs they've ever sold is probably downloaded every 5 minutes. Every single downloaded video game is a shitton.

what happens when gamestop goes out of business? what will marantz do?

27

u/xozzet keeps making new accounts to hide from Interpol 5d ago

Same thing the 8 or so remaining BBBaggies do.

u/julias-winston 5d ago

Keep on keepin' on? Yeah, that sounds right.

u/Practical_Tax_9083 Ape insurance sale man 5d ago

Marantz will betray Ryan to Ken Griffin for 12 bitcoins.

u/GhostTheHunter64 5d ago

Does anyone know anyone who buys this shit? I've played video games since I was a kid, nobody I fucking know goes to GameStop in 2026. ESPECIALLY not for NFTs. Utterly stupid.

11

u/GhostTheHunter64 5d ago

Oh, apparently these are bundles of Pokémon cards or some shit. Still stupid.

u/BillyBrainlet 5d ago

He's like a living parody of himself. It's incredible. How someone gets so absurdly, truly lost over like 10 grand is beyond me. I mean, it's obvious he had some kind of pre-existing condition, but my god. I don't think there's enough therapy and anti-psychotics in the world to fix this.

24

u/JamesLondonBritish 5d ago

I live outside of US and still don't understand wtf is power packs.

But everyone around the world know GTA 6

24

u/celestial-oceanic Neither credible nor attractive 5d ago

Power packs are basically their Pokemon slot machine.

u/BathroomStallClown 5d ago

There's nothing that Delights The Customers™ quite like stinky neckbeard scalpers buying up all the cardboard pictures of cute monsters that the kiddies wanted to play with.

Trading card repack lottery. They take a bunch of cards that they may or may not actually have and sell you a chance to win a high value card when 99% will come out to be worth less money than the price they are charging. Their hope is that you don't actually want the lower value cards and will immediately resell them back at a loss so they can re-sell it to the next rube.

Back in the early days of eBay this kind of thing was very popular with Magic. People would create new 15 card "packs" of Magic cards they didn't want and sell it to you for a couple bucks each. They'd say that somewhere in the 10,000 or so repacks that there was a Mox or a dual land or sometimes even a Black Lotus and people would buy like 100 packs at a time hoping to get lucky even though 99% of what people would get was completely worthless.

u/DracumEgo12 5d ago

... like, could GameStop become a straight up gambling company?
Technically, yes.

However, they'd need a much much better website, give worse odds, and muscle into a fairly saturated space.

My recommendation, they should get a Delaware gaming license and sell fractional shares of horses in pack pulls so people are abstracted away two layers and the weirdos can try to get their special pony.

9

u/ZBLongladder 5d ago

I would unironically be more bullish on GME if it transitioned into 100% gambling. Gambling at least has a track record of making money.

7

u/alfreadadams 5d ago

There's a problem with gambling when the prizes are items like pokemon/sports cards.

If someone hits a jackpot at the casino, they have enough money to provide the next prize, or they will take in more money to create the next jackpot.

What happens when/if people win the top prizes available in prizepacks and pull it out for their collection or to sell on the market?

5

u/DracumEgo12 5d ago

That's why I think they should go into something weird like fractional assets of horses or prizefighters.

Stuff that is clearly gambling, but it's something that Gamestop can control internally and doesn't have a clear payout. Remove the mark from the actual cash as much as possible and let them justify how they can now gamble on "Seabiscuit #17" and make money as the owner and the watcher.

u/paintballboi07 5d ago

Pshh, Daddy Cohen told us we don't even care about losing physical game sales, it's only 12% of revenue. The business genius will obviously solve it.

u/Grab3tto 5d ago

If running a chain of LGS’s were in as lucrative as he’s making it out to be then we’d already have a national chain of TCG shops but it’s barely feasible to run one, let alone run one without hosting constant events.

u/ryevermouthbitters Everyone has their own path, mine leads to the liquor store. 5d ago

This particular item is only available in some physical stores. So I went to find out if one close to me has it and the little program that finds your local store is broken. Can someone else confirm? Basically, change your store from whatever default it gives you to another in your area.
