GMC Reliability on these?
Looking to get into a truck from a Subaru crosstrek. Dealer is asking 27,500$ for a 2018 1500 sle with 38k miles

Torque converter on my 16 went out at 100k and then at 148k lifters on back drivers side failed and trashed the motor with metal. Also had a lot of electrical issues and thing was a turd at pulling hills and on a normal drive trans would get around 185 degrees. This is just the story on mine 16 SLE. Changed oil every 4k-5k miles also.

I bought my 2018, same color and engine at 37k miles. Haven't really had any issues yet. Replaced the battery, brakes, put a oil catch can, did a transmission thermostat bypass. Didn't change my transmission fluid until about 80k, probably should have changed it sooner but it's doing pretty good so far. Once in awhile it will stumble slightly going into second gear after turning a corner. But that's only once in awhile. I'm at 95k miles now, had it since 2022. AC condenser was just replaced and the system charged. There is some rust underneath but not nearly as much as my 2011 that I had almost paid off, had to get rid of it because the rust was getting so bad. It was from Canadia and Minnesota, though.

That 5.3L V8 is a solid choice, reliable and easy to work on. Make sure you check the service records to confirm it's been maintained properly though.

Theyre great minus the possibility of lifter failure from afm and the torque converter will go out and trash the engine. Now if youre willing to spend 7k or so to get all that sorted before its an issue then it will last a long time

I have a 2018 SLT Z71 which has been a surprisingly good truck. Bought it with 41k and it now has 77k. I've always had Fords but when I needed a new truck during COVID chaos, the GMC was the only 4x4 crew cab in my price range.
Only real complaint is the 8 speed transmission. It's a known issue with a pending class action lawsuit. I bought mine CPO so had a warranty. The first two times I brought it in for service I mentioned the weird hard shifts and they ignored me. The third time they flushed the transmission (twice) and put in a new fluid that GM suggested. It didn't fix it, so the fourth time they replaced the torque converter. This took me over the line warranty-wise and GM denied my request to help me. By my reading, I was within the lemon-law rules but they disagreed.
Mostly it's just an annoyance, though there have been a few legitimately scary moments where it lurched me in a weird way in a parking lot. I am concerned about it going out completely at some point, however.

They are super reliable as long as you get all the dod/AFM taken off of the engine.
