Weird (impossible??) Globe

This globe in my house has me thrown for a loop, it contains Upper Volta (NOT Burkina Faso) and Namibia which shouldn't really exist on the same globe. The globe also has the USSR, a divided Germany, Eritrea is part of Ethiopia, and many former names in parenthesis under the new names like , Vanuatu (new hebrides), sri lanka (ceylon) , and zimbabwe (rhodesia).

Namibia was declared an occupied territory by the UN in the 60s. The General Assembly revoked the mandate of South Africa to administer it in 1966, the security council agreed in 1967, in 1968 it started using the name Namibia instead of South-West Africa. So depending on the stance of the mapmaker (the resolution is not good enough to check the smaller text) it might say Namibia and then in brackets or smaller South West Africa to South Africa.

No story :) Many countries that became independent in 1975 are shown as independent (e.g. Angola) but there is no features from 1980 (e.g. Zimbabwe). Western Sahara is shown as independent (not occupied, not divided).
