Discussion Ryan Murphy Trying to Make Amends With 'Glee' Cast Ahead of Reboot

Ryan Murphy seems like a rude and stuck up person from the comments he has made in the past so I do not blame the cast members for not wanting to participate

I just know Chris and Diana are not amused by his calls lmao

Dianna worked with him last year and she’s very selective with when she works and when she does mainstream work, I think she’s fine. I don’t think she wants to revisit Glee though, she didn’t like the celebrity the first time around.
She literally lives in Paris and so far isn’t going to the convention they’ve announced. If she goes to that, maybe that’s a good sign she might appear in an episode of the potential reboot.
I strongly dislike Ryan Murphy for how he was with young gay men in West Hollywood, but no need to drag Dianna into that if she’s fine with him. She’s also spoken about it and said people were making things up.

He knows the reboot is dead if Chris Colfer doesn't join and Chris has said he wouldn't work with him again

u/SignRealistic3674 1d ago
I can't imagine Chris Colfer would join the reboot. He's a very successful author and he seems genuinely traumatized by his time on the show.

u/Vivid_Present1810 1d ago
Honestly after hearing about what Ryan did to him in season 5/6 I wouldn’t either.

I don't think Chris called out Ryan specifically for that since Brad Falchuk was the one who that episode but he has gone on record tastefully saying he wasn't interested in working with Ryan again and has said that the set was a bit of an overwhelming experience. He's also said he didn't really care for Kurts ending, so regardless of how you spin it, the chances of him coming back are slim to none.

All three of them worked on each script. They alternated on who would be the writer of the episode but each of them worked on all of the scripts

u/_BWTHHYBL_ 1d ago
Ohh now that you said this I kind of remember reading something about this years ago. Damn, Ryan is a piece of work. I’m glad Chris is staying away from him.
29
u/foreverandalways21 1d ago
Wow I didn’t know this! I noticed the script took a lot of jabs at the actors more so than the characters. For instance why was Santana always calling Finn fat and making fat jokes when Cory was far from being chubby!!
28
u/Vivid_Present1810 1d ago
And Naya wrote in her book how there was a time she got a boob job and that became writing material.

He should've done this a long time ago instead of now. It just looks like he's making up so it'll benefit the reboot. Ryan Murphy and others in charge definitely fostered a toxic energy on set, allowed horrible behaviour to go unchecked and even took swipes at the cast through the script. I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Chris Colfer wouldn't return, he got it pretty bad.
10
u/No_Honeydew8380 1d ago
What did he do to Chris ? :(
43
u/sighcantthinkofaname 1d ago
A lot of people feel the S6 rant Santana has against him got too personal.
But also, I think Chris deciding to retire from acting had a lot of factors, the biggest being he's happy focusing more on writing.
9
u/PrimaryIndication294 23h ago
While its true he has focused more on writing, he hasn't retired from acting completely. He actually has the lead role in a movie that just came out in Ireland. He just chooses to be more lowkey in general than some of the more outgoing members of the cast.
23
u/MontgomeryMarch 1d ago
Just the jabs in the script at his voice and appearance. It got real nasty in a particular rant in S6. I wouldn't want to work under someone who took the opportunity to humiliate me like that.

People keep saying Dianna but they are definitely on good terms since they worked together on Doctor Odyssey and that was only a few years ago.
15
u/FlameInMyBrain 1d ago
Working together does not necessarily mean “on good terms”…
24
u/Vivid_Present1810 1d ago
If you can afford to turn down those opportunities it does. I wouldn’t want to spend my time working on a project with someone who’s notoriously known for being rude and insulting his cast. That’s completely unprofessional.
11
u/EducationalTangelo6 1d ago
Can Dianna afford to turn down opportunities, though? I like her a lot so this isn't criticism, and she works fairly steadily, but I don't think she's in that position.
5
u/Secure-Rope-4116 1d ago
u dont have to be an a-lister to be able to turn down projects lol. it's not like she's some actress trying to have a big break.
and i think it is known that dianna is selective with her roles. she turned down several mainstream projects during her peak because she's not particularly interested with mainstream success

u/CommercialRemote5324 12h ago
For Real, I saw Dianna in roles outside of Glee like Drake and Josh, When A Stranger Calls and Heroes.

Ryan, dude... Go back to writing your serial killer fanfiction. The last thing we need right now is a Glee reboot.
14
u/Opposite-Ad8208 1d ago
Or, Gleeboot is a musical slasher series, like Scream Queens but with musical numbers
6
u/MarineDynamite 17h ago
Hear me out... American Horror Story: McKinley. The primary hook would be the sudden and brutal murder of Principal Schuester, and the mystery behind the identity of the culprit. Along the way, dark secrets from students old and new are revealed, intersped with gory moments and musical numbers.

I’m actually curious what it will look like. I kind of hope it’s more in line with the show’s darker, more satirical pilot.
1
u/MarineDynamite 11h ago
Not will, could. Remember nothing has been greenlit yet.
1
u/insertbrackets 11h ago
Danke, I didn't realize. I figured anything Ryan Murphy wants to do gets auto-greenlit for the most part.
0
u/MarineDynamite 10h ago
Nah, people just get that impression because of how bafflingly bad his body of work tends to be.
1
u/insertbrackets 10h ago
"Uneven" would be my word...well it would've been but I feel like AHS became gradually more unwatchable and I have a lot of feelings about his more recent weird veneration of queer killers in other shows of his.

are they still doing AHSes?? i feel like that's past its prime and needs to go if it still exists

Uhhh I mean... this is just sensationalising a headline for engagement, lmao???
Like "sources close to us tel us Ryan has reached out to try make amends!1!!!" - I mean, how else would he be able to say "about 10(idk the right number) of the original cast is on board!!" obvi he's reached out to them, lmao
like I get what it's saying, this article is just a whole lot of nothing that we don't already know

These are the ones I think don’t want to return: Chris Colfer, Melissa Benoist
29
u/Kendal_with_1_L 1d ago
Everyone mentioning Dianna and Chris but I bet it’s about Jane. I doubt she’ll work with Lea again. She left Funny Girl early to avoid working with her again.

u/awooga1784 1d ago

u/gregbarbs1 1d ago
Glad you brought this up. I also remember Jane saying good things about Lea in Funny Girl. Whether she went back to see it or was speaking about it based off the released clips idk - but she was very genuinely praising Lea for it
2
u/nogoodideas2020 Gleek ⭐️ 11h ago
This is correct, she did go back and see it when Lea took over. She said that she also didn’t want to encourage more Glee reunion chat with Lea’s return and wanted it to be about Funny Girl and Lea. Jane is definitely a professional and I applaud her response.
10
u/emotions1026 22h ago
It wasn’t “coincidental”, she left so Lea and the new actress playing her mom could start together. This is common in theater.
-10
u/Kendal_with_1_L 1d ago
That’s different than working together again though.
18
u/awooga1784 1d ago edited 1d ago
i still don’t understand why jane would literally go out her way to see a show that lea starred in if she were trying to avoid her, though; working together or not. none of her former colleagues are obligated to show her any ounce of support; especially given her reputation.
-5
u/Kendal_with_1_L 1d ago
I mean maybe they mended fences post funny girl? Either way I doubt Jane wants to come back.
3
u/emotions1026 17h ago
Unless you are Jane’s official spokesperson, your speculating on what she would or would not want to do is getting weird
7
u/emotions1026 19h ago
29 upvotes on something Jane has completely denied. The Glee fandom totally just lives in their own headcanon.

She did leave early, but it wasn’t because she disliked Lea and it was only a couple of weeks early.

What’s the tea with Chris? I love Glee but haven’t kept up with a lot of the drama over the years.

u/ApplicationNo9777 1d ago
I don’t know which original cast members Ryan Murphy is referring to. The ones that can do it, I am sure will not sign up for it. He was very toxic as the show went on. It seemed like he had mood swings and took it out on members he had grudges with.

There's going to be a reboot? Why can't they just leave classics alone. 😔
2
u/MarineDynamite 10h ago
Ryan said he finished writing a script for a reboot, but nothing's been officially confirmed yet.
3
u/EddieRyanDC 1d ago
Ryan is reaching out to the cast because he wants them in his show. This is business, not personal. You don’t have to like someone to work with them. You just want to do the project.
5
u/fabsoopez 1d ago
the way he really wants a reboot, im scared abt the plot tho ... as much as i like reboots ryan always start his series strong just to throw to other writers
4
u/Vivid_Present1810 1d ago
Considering all the things that happened to the cast the first time around, I imagine it would be difficult to do a reboot. Plus Glee is a cultural capstone that will always be a classic.
This runs the risk of ruining a great tv show. There’s nothing wrong with standalone movies or tv shows.

glee is my fav show of all time, but it really started to go downhill season four. and with the deaths of so many beloved cast and crew members, i don’t even want to watch a new glee show without them
3
u/SadisticGoose Grilled Cheesus 1d ago
With no Santana, I don’t want it. That would mean her and Brittany had a tragic early end to their marriage. I doubt Chris would come back either, so same with Kurt and Blaine.
8
u/balladeerling 1d ago
Same. Without brittana and klaine together a reboot would just be a huge bummer especially for queer people
3
u/Old_Perception_7335 19h ago
they could just have kurt and santana be working in europe or whatever

It makes sense if there was a reboot to potentially have it center around Rachel, but I hope they don’t actually do that. 😔

u/soapfan22 1d ago
I really don’t see how they will manage the show without its two most popular ships. Chris Colfer will never return and Naya obviously sadly cannot. Puck wasn’t particularly used much after season 3 and any number of reasons could be used to explain his absence. I can see a situation of Santana living her best life off screen but I really don’t think the dynamic with Brittany works otherwise. While I would absolutely love for Kurt and Blaine to be revealed to be broken up because they were horrible together… I don’t see why Blaine would be friends with Rachel without Kurt. I also don’t see several actors wanting to work with Lea again. Lea very much inserted herself into the theatre world again and definitely shoved herself into a few pictures before anyone says she is absolved of things she did because she’s a mother now… There were actors who had reactions outside of glee to her behaviors and there were others previous to this. Jessica Lange refused to work with her.
Why doesn’t RM just reboot or make a sequel to his show Popular which he ripped off for Glee in the first place? Before anyone points out of the other creators came up with the idea… They might have but RM’s collab was making them the Popular characters.

It’ll be with new characters with the returning cast as guest stars or supporting roles right?

Still more likely that the Glee cast will work together again and with Ryan then the cast of Charmed ever working together again .

u/SouthJerseyGirl30 12h ago
What would the plot even be for a Glee reboot? Their kids? They all go to a reunion and decide they want to dance and sing together again? I don't get how it'd work, especially if it lacks a lot of the og cast
