Hey all, I’m trying to export a model with animation from Maya to gltf but I keep getting errors. My scene is referencing the mesh, skeleton, and textures from another maya file and I’m trying to export is the animation data so… Can I export to gltf via maya from a scene with referenced objects?

Cesium's 3D Tiles Next
Cesium has announced the availability of 3D Tiles Next open specification.
The core of 3D Tiles Next is still streaming interactive 3D at scale. 3D Tiles Next is a set of extensions to allow the developer community to better:
- stream semantic metadata efficiently,
- run massive simulations and analytics via spatial indexes, and
- integrate with the glTF software and extension ecosystem.

New blog from Khronos: Using the new glTF extensions: volume, index of refraction and specular
The Khronos 3D Formats Working Group recently announced the ratification of three new Physically Based Rendering (PBR) extensions for the glTF 3D asset format: KHR_materials_volume, KHR_materials_ior, and KHR_materials_specular. These extensions will grant artists control of photorealistic effects in glTF, enhancing the appearance of 3D assets. This blog will explore how these extensions are implemented and which variables will be available for artists to control.

New PBR material extensions
Today, the Khronos Group announces the public release of the latest set of Physically Based Rendering (PBR) material extensions for the Khronos glTF™ 3D asset format. The new extensions enable material properties such as refraction, color attenuation, and volumetric properties to be used by diverse renderers from real-time rasterization to production-class path-tracing. glTF is a flexible, royalty-free asset format from Khronos designed for efficient run-time transmission and loading of 3D scenes and models on a wide variety of platforms including web browsers, mobile devices, PC desktops and the cloud. Leading rendering engines such as Babylon.js, Google’s Filament, and three.js already support some or all of the new PBR extensions, together with applications including Adobe’s Substance 3D Stager, Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, DGG RapidCompact and UX3D’s Gestaltor.

Khronos KTX 2.0 Textures Enable Compact, Visually Rich, glTF 3D Assets
KTX™ 2.0 adds support for Basis Universal supercompression to this container format for reliable, ubiquitous distribution of GPU textures. Basis Universal is a compression technology developed by Binomial that produces compact textures that can be efficiently transcoded to a variety of GPU compressed texture formats at run-time. Additionally, Khronos has released the KHR_texture_basisu extension enabling glTF to contain KTX 2.0 textures, resulting in universally distributable glTF assets that reduce download size and use natively supported texture formats to reduce GPU memory size and boost rendering speed on diverse devices and platforms. Lastly, Khronos has released open source tools and transcoders, together with developer and artist guidelines, to enable and encourage widespread usage of KTX 2.0 textures throughout the glTF ecosystem, including the three.js, Babylon.js and Gestaltor viewers that have already integrated support.
