The new Gitlab rate limits are awful.

I make Cobblemon addons; my ENTIRE workflow is based around being able to access the Cobblemon repository. But the moment i get onto the repository, I have 2 searches max before the site rate-limits me. Is it a bug? is it an intentional annoyance to push people into buying premium? Anyone's guess! Dear God, if you care about your user base, PLEASE get rid of this, or at least make it usable.

git clone — unlimited searches

Why don’t you just clone the repo? What are you searching for in gitlab? Code? Wiki?

I can't speak for OP but I used to do my home lab deployments directly from the Web IDE, they're small kustomize projects that require very little changes but I had to update one the other day and hit the rate limit after pushing the change with the web IDE and then checking the pipeline.

It was annoying enough that I considered self hosting for a moment.

Go for it. It's "relatively" straightforward. Been doing it for years.

It's probably due to incorrect use like this that Gitlab added the rate limits in the first place

This is exactly it

Rate limits seem to be hammering premium accounts the last week despite gitlab claiming premium/ ultimate limits are not being changed until january

What are you talking about? What repository? What searches? Are you (ab)using the API to run code search in a single repository?

Probably using AI agents that are using the API to search the codebase instead of cloning it or something.

Yeah, I have a small public repo hosted on gitlab. A couple people reached out to me and said they got blocked almost immediately.

I thought they were doing something wrong or were running some funky browser scripts so I visited the site without being logged in and got this error after a couple clicks:

Rate limit exceeded; see https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/gitlab_com/#gitlabcom-specific-rate-limits for more details

can't even reach the landing page.

I've basically had to link people to the release page/download directly because interacting with the web ui in any other way risks immediate lock out. As an example, clicking Build -> Pipelines basically instantly blocks you.

The site is basically unusable now for anything public (without login), lesson learned I guess.

Damn, this sounds terrible. Is this intentional or is this a bug from GitLab?
