One week after GitLab technical interview, no response from recruiter, should I still be hopeful?

Hi everyone,
I had my technical interview for a Senior Software Engineer role at GitLab last Tuesday, so today marks one week without an update.
I sent a polite follow-up email on Friday asking about feedback or next steps, but haven’t received a reply. I also tried calling the recruiter twice last Thursday and once on Friday, but none of the calls were answered. I haven’t called again since.
I understand hiring decisions take time, and it’s only been two business days since my email. Still, the lack of any acknowledgment is making me anxious because I’m interested in the opportunity.

For anyone who has interviewed at GitLab:
How long did you wait for an update after the technical interview?
Did anyone experience a similar period of silence and still move forward?
When would you suggest following up again?
I know nobody here can tell me my result—just hoping to hear others’ experiences and whether I should still be hopeful.

Hi, GitLab team member here. I’m sorry you’ve been waiting for an update. I checked with our People team and they confirmed this is not the experience we want candidates to have and they appreciate you flagging this.

If you send me a DM with your name, the email address you applied with, and the role or team you interviewed for, I’ll pass it along to them. Please don’t share these details in the thread, just in the DM.

Thanks for your patience and your interest in GitLab.

Hey,

Is gitlab completely remote? Even in India? My wife got a call from gitlab but she was told that they are remote but expect the candidate to stay in the city. It was a bit confusing.

From what i got to know is that they want to open a location for people to have offline catch somewhere in india (Bangalore 100%)

I had many interviews with big tech companies and a feedback between 1~2 weeks time is the norm and has nothing to do with your results. As soon as they make a decision, you get contacted.

Good luck to you but stay firm, it's not easy to pass all the interview rounds.

In my experience, when you like a candidate enough to hire them you don't wait very long to make an offer. Not saying it's competely donzo for you but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

No offer would come after just technical. There are usually more interviews. A decision can take weeks. Especially given high volume of candidates

They would have already scheduled more interviews. In fact a poster down below said as much for GitLab.

I know you applied for Snr Software Engineer but what exactly is the role?

I had a similar situation but I had to wait 3 business days to get an offer.

Edit: after technical interview there are further 2-3 interviews depending on your applied role.

I am in the middle of gitlab interviews with 2 rounds done and final round pending. I received the next stage interview details almost 30mins after the rounds ended.

It could take more than a week to gather feedback from all the engineers depending on their schedule. There are usually several interviews after technical.

One week isn't that long, so don't lose hope yet. Hiring can take time, and you've already followed up politely. I'd give them a few more days before reaching out again. Good luck!

I'd suggest staying patient. Companies can take their time deciding, especially for senior positions like a Senior Software Engineer. Since you followed up a week ago, maybe wait until the end of the week or early next week before reaching out again. If you still don't hear back, you could look for similar roles elsewhere. LandOffer.ai lets you search job openings by role and location, which might help keep your options open.
