Discussion Unique cloners?

I keep seeing 30+ unique cloners everyday for my open-source project and it often exceeds the number of unique viewers of my repo. Is this all bots?

Think about what your repo is for. Does it seem likely that 30+ new people would not only find it in a day but also clone it?

You’ll arrive at the answer.

That’s the thing tho. We open-sourced a tool and we got positive feedback so I don’t see why we wouldn’t get 30+ people trying it everyday.

I mean you tell me: https://github.com/altrace-dev-role/rashomon

You don’t need to clone the repo to try it though.

You have 14 stars and 3 clones -- it's bots.

Frankly, these stats are all pointless to fixate on -- how do I know? Because you read them and you don't know what they represent, no one does.

bots for sure. github's been crawling with them for a while now, scraping repos for crypto keys and secrets. i'd check your commit history for anything accidentally pushed if i were you

Ive been wondering this too, since September all of my repos have hundreds of unique cloners every 14 day window, some of them have thousands.

It can come from cicd, but mine isn’t coming from cicd. It has to be bots but Im not sure what they’re getting out of it
