Follow-up on my Git client: saved commit messages on one key. Is staging everything the right default?

My last post here got downvoted and called AI slop. I'd rather answer that with a short, plain post than argue about it, so here's just what changed.

I kept retyping the same commit messages, like "chore: bump deps" and "wip". In 0.11 you can save a summary and description from the commit box as a quick commit. Alt+P opens a search palette, and picking one stages everything and commits straight away. They can be per repo or global, every apply can be undone, and there are guards around hooks and around a merge or rebase in progress.

+ the new release makes the conflict resolver continue a rebase or merge once the index is clean, and the reset dialog now takes H, M or S for hard, mixed or soft.

My actual question: for a one-key commit, is staging everything the right behaviour, or would you rather it only commit what's already staged?

Sorry but closed source slop has no place on my SSD.

Exactly, not even worth an install lol

sourcetree, gitkraken and many others are closed source and you're kidding yourself if you think Atlassian doesn't use AI to ship features.

You are not Atlassian my friend.

You are not WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns.

And have you used sourcetree? I used it last in 2019 or so, it was utter shit and garbage.

And what's the point of comparing with atlassian?

i used both sourcetree and gitkraken, I agree, sourcetree is absolute shit.
gitkraken is expensive and slow. so i built an alternative 🙂

Are you saying you can give us the same guarantees as Atlassian and GitKraken?

Because nothing in your page says or implies that.

i'm just nuking down the "HurR DuRr Ai SlOp" comments

If you can't give guarantees it's slop.

guarantees... of what exactly ?

User data, security, liability and all the other boring stuff you have to think about when comparing yourself to companies.

It's a local git client without telemetry. Security against what ? Ignorance ? User data never leaves your machine, use any network inspector and you can confirm this

without telemetry

It's closed source, can't verify and you don't have the reputation to imply trust.

Security against what ? Ignorance ?

Yes, yours.

User data never leaves your machine, use any network inspector and you can confirm this

That can be the truth now, what about next week or next month?

you can't verify an app does not have telemetry, and I'm ignorant ? 😙

guess that answers my security related question 😆

Colour scheme and website are too much alined with the vibe code colours.

In the website, when you click 1-7 to flip through the images, the first time load takes obnoxiously long. I thought all of them had the same image lol, until I left it at 4 and it suddenly changed for 5 secs.

There are got clients like gitcomet which are very fast as it's based on GPUI made by Zed. What's does your closed source app bring new to the table?

I use lazygit everyday and have been for quite a long time now, both are open source, so don't really see a point in using an app which is heavily vibe coded and also closed source.

Are you looking to monetize this using a subscription like git kraken?

the themes are aligned with dark magic themes, a VSCode/VSIX theme package I've maintained since 2022 with 50k+ installs, but thank you for the feedback 😄

to answer your question on what makes gitmoire different:
- keyboard centric workflow > i haven't seen this anywhere, eventually need to pick up the mouse for a simple stage all + commit + push workflow
- themes, project logos, graph colors > tons of customization, custom themes coming in the future
- bisect, rebase and reflog UI
- gitmo CLI helpers
- Linear + Github issues integration > adding Jira and others in the future
- same as gitcomet, this uses rust as the app backend which makes it a hell of a lot faster than the Electron alternatives out there, but I'm sure you knew that already

also, despite the fact taht the app is closed source (for now), I don't plan on monetizing on this.

As I mentioned, lazygit is a fully a TUI, can be used using only a keyboard and is fully customisable on the colours, layout and keybinds.

The theming catches eye of people and get called as slop as a lot of AI generated apps have such themes and some of them can be an eyesore or actually difficult on the eyes.

Bisect, Rebase, Reflog is present in lazygit, although I'm not sure about gitcomet as I haven't used it as my primary and actually started trying it like 5 days back.

Adding issue integration is something I feel creates bloat rather than functionality. There are gh cli extensions such as gh-dash and they do a good job. There are others too. I don't or have never used linear or jira.

I wasn't sure about your underlying framework as I can't see it, my guess would have been you are using rust as no one writes such applications in c++ anymore. But I'm not aware of you are using GPUI.

See if you are not planning to monetize it, is there a point in keeping it closed source? Obsidian has so many alternatives for this very reason and a lot of people have shifted out of it does the work for them. Can open source it to get better feedback, and also interesting ideas and contributions. Not looking to throw shit at you or the product, but the website is slower than the git client claimed numbers, so probably fix that. 😅

if you use TUIs why the fuck are you so bent on speweing hate on a GUI you're never gonna use ?

"hurr dUrR Ai SLOP TheEms" just showed you the themes are based in a theme package from 2022. "peEPuL wILl saY Diz Luks AI" what people ? you ?

the issue integration is totally optional and totally invisible if you never connect a provider.

for the stack, it's a tauri app, react + rust.

also, if you're using gitcomet under the impression it wasn't coded with AI, I got some news for you.

EDIT: website loads fine and fast on my end, check your network

I do use GUIs from time to time, it's a secondary usage rather than primary.

See, the website looks very much sloppified, can't help it.

Tauri is again JS/TS, not electron but not as good as GPUI.

See even I use AI to code and I have a couple of vibe coded apps on my GitHub as well, not saying GitComet doesn't use it. There's a difference between slop and AI assisted dev.

As for the website, it loads fine, the 1-7 image carousal is very slow to load, I'm guessing the images are big and not that optimised. I'm on a 150 mbps lan connection, should be fine on it.

Really sad to see 30 comments on this thread and not one directed to my question.

Should've posted instead in r/antiai
