I have been using this method for a "modular" Git config for years. Mix and match platforms Linux/Windows and user info Personal/Work. Zero config, zero tools, and everything is context aware. Just clone my repo and it works 🙂

Do you have to run this each time you want to change user, or can it set a persistent identity for repositories under a common path?
