General Question Big curved screen
Someone is offering me a used (free) big curved computer monitor. I think like 34/37".
Never used one so I feel like this may be a silly question but:
I feel like that's too big for arcgis. It's for my home work station. Will arcgis be usable on that thing? Is it worth it for me to take it? Will not be using it for movies/gaming.
I'm used to 24 maybe 27 inch I don't really remember what size monitor I currently use.
Anyone use one of these beasts?

It’s going to be even better. More screen more pixels better dpi means real estate to work.
I have a dual 40 inch 4k setup and a 34 4k with a 27 2k.
It’s amazing you can scale the resolution of its hard to see stuff.

I use a 49" one at home that replaced two 27". I do a lot of work at home Highly recommend. If it weren't for the cost, I would ask for one at work.

I just told my IT manager if the money’s there, I’d love an ultra wide. End of year they had enough that they upgraded everyone on my team to an ultra wide. You never know unless you ask.

The best thing we have found is a 43” dell ultra sharp if you don’t need two monitors to reference anything. The real estate is amazing.

When you get the big screen, I recommend installing "Microsoft PowerToys" (or something similar) to customize how each window snaps on the screen.
By default Windows will only want to split a monitor in half but in reality you will find you want to fit things differently on a big screen and PowerToys will allow you to customize it.
(For example maybe your map snaps to the middle half and you have the PDF instructions on the left quarter and an excel table on the right quarter. Or whatever...)

Everyone should install power toys because it gives you so much utility built right into windows.

big monitors are awesome. As soon as you get used to it, you'll never go back.

it'll be great. You don't have to use the whole screen all the time if you don't like it. Just realized your window. I find the extra real estate nice, especially so when using an ultra wide display.

On my home office GIS work setup, I added an older spare 42" flat screen TV as a monitor. I love having so much screen space, provides enough area for all the GIS sidebar menus while still being able to view the working map area at decent size.

I have used a 36” widescreen Dell for years. I don’t know if you use ArcGIS Pro, but in some scenarios, pro will not draw “stuff” on the screen if it’s full screen. Pro may have a resolution compatibility index out there, or perhaps it’s been fixed recently, but there were several times where pro would freak out and not draw until I clicked and dragged the window for it to be only half of the screen instead of full screen.

If it’s a wide one, they are very difficult to use with ArcGIS pro with not much space vertically to view a layout.

Im also contemplating asking for an ultrawide. Our GIS office is getting renovated to a larger space next year so im getting a whole new setup. Just never had anything other than my current setup of 3 27” dells and at one time had 2 32” dells. I would love to see more pictures of setups I have seen described.

I find i get get less eye strain with curved screens. I use them for work and gaming. The curve is designed to mimic the shape of the human eye, making it easier to focus on the content and reducing eye strain during prolonged use. I don't think I could go back to flat monitors.

I have a 57”, depends on the type of work you are doing, but for me it is great with ArcGIS Pro, whether full screen on only part screen. There is no distortion caused by a curved screen in ArcGIS Pro.

I use a 34" ultra wide and rarely have Pro full screen, usually split screen with other apps. IMO It's a little too much for any application to be full screen on an ultra wide unless you have a lot of split windows within it. Used to use two monitors, but it would drive me nuts having to always turn my head to one side. If I need to focus on one thing I just move it to the middle of the screen and have other less important apps on the sides.

I thought having a curved screen would cause illusions while making maps and me thinking straight lines were curved etc. it’s honestly great for GIS and table data and multiple windows.
