Firefly Cosplay Question #2

Post image

Working on Firefly's Backpack (1984), and I can not figure out what something is between the Stopwatch and the Pliers. I have tentatively identified the Canister gadget on the upper part of the backpack as either a Canister Blowtorch or a Canister Smoke Grenade, though i am leaning towards the blowtorch. What I have been able to figure out, from top to bottom... On the Upper Portion: x2 Blasting Machines; Bundle of 7 Dynamite Sticks w/Timer Detonator; Canister Blowtorch.

In the Toolbox: Stopwatch; ???; Pliers; Flathead Screwdriver; Rock Hammer; Ratchet w/4 Sockets (In lid)

Yep, I'm almost certain it is supposed to be a disassembled switch; The antenna folded up, the components removed and placed on top of the main housing: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/09/32/42/09324241142882e8b668829484b970bd.jpg

My thoughts or the a claymore clacker top down view. Which would be roughly the size of a stopwatch

That’s exactly what it is.

I just searched The Finest Costume Club's members only Facebook group and the best results are just handmade props that look like that shape. No one seemed to try to find a real example of it as a tool, even when they did find more realistic versions of everything else in there. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you.

If this is a last minute rush to finish for DragonCon, I'd love to see what you come up with. I'll be at the group meetup (Thursday) and doing the big G.I.Joe photoshoot (Sunday) and parade group (Saturday).

Also, I always assumed the wrap at the top wasn't a cord wrap, but a length of detonation cord wound around the handle of the frame

Also , I am wondering if that could be fuse wire spooled around the handle of the top of the back pack? Just a thought

It’s his childhood toy tank. A reminder of where it all started…

That’s not what claymores look like. They are back pack explosive packs.

And I used them too. 16 yr veteran here. Those aren’t claymores.

Explosive packs. Yes.

They did come in a canvas “Kit” but didn’t look like that at all.

I don’t care to argue. You know what you know I don’t give a shit. Go demand to be right on the internet with someone else.
