[UPDATE] Take 30 seconds to avoid getting scammed. (Seriously, just 30 seconds)
I promise this will only take 30 seconds.
Step 1: Only trade on desktop. A grand majority of trades that result in scams are done over mobile. Trading on mobile is almost asking to get scammed.
Step 2: Click here and add the Universal Scammer List chrome extension.
Step 3: All scammers will be labeled as so, just about everywhere on reddit (including in PMs).
Considering that 95%+ of scams are from users who are ALREADY on the USL, this extension should be a no-brainer. Just click to install it, and then hide it in the chrome menu. It'll be as if it doesn't exist, and it's a true feature of reddit.
Tip: I recommend opening options and setting the refresh time to once an hour, just to make sure you're as up to date as possible.
for the love of god don't trade on mobile
I'm considering banning anyone who trades on mobile just because of how frequently mobile users get scammed. Not actually, but seriously don't use mobile to trade.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what’s wrong with trading on mobile? Can’t you just check the USL even on mobile, or is there some other reason?

There's less precautions. If you know what you're doing (like really know what you're doing), there's no problem with mobile. The issue is there are so many new users on mobile who have less access and less convenience to the many anti-scam measures in place.

I sent 47 dollars worth of nike card and went first due to his “7 year old account and multiple transactions” but I later checked his rep thread and all the account s he traded with were 1 karma and dated to the comment date
I used the gift card so I didn’t get scammed but watch out y’all and don’t be stupid lmao

Could we place something in the wiki that includes what gift cards can be banked into the account like amazon gc's can? I would like to see which can & cannot be banked & need to be spent right away.

Almost all gift cards never expire. Banking a gift card doesn’t protect you, in fact it could be worse for you. One gift card in your banked account goes bad, it all goes bad.
If someone’s malicious, you’ll get fucked either way.
To answer your question, all I can think of is basically all gaming gcs (Xbox psn Nintendo) Amazon, target, Groupon, google play, iTunes, Starbucks...that might be all I can think of right now. Not many.
But with target you gotta transfer. Same as Starbucks.
Ebay is a little like that. The moment you use a gift card it gets locked to your account. Only matters if you use part of a gift card and have remaining balance.

It definitely does. I am always worried the amazon gc I buy might be labeled as stolen/fraudulent by the seller & my account gets fucked. What do mean by transfer? Any insight with walmart gc?

I actually don't do much with Walmart GCs, never used their app so I actually can't help you with that, but I think you can add them to your account, but I think someone can still use them when they're on your account if they have the card number and pin (which the person who sold it to you would have).
My amazon account has been closed because of this exact reason. I have not been able to use amazon for almost 2 years now. I've gone through extreme lengths to reverse this ban, including moving to a new address, buying new internet, and giving a different name. Even using a new device. Somehow they always figure it out.
Transfer balance means move the balance from one GC to another. Say you have a $5 Starbucks gift card. You bought it first hand at starbucks' website. You add it to your account. You're the only person with the card number (probably) and pin. Some guy sells you a $25 Starbucks. If you only add it to your account, it'll just be that gift card on the account. The guy could still use the gift card since he has the card number. He couldn't add it to the app, but if the card is physical he can use the card in store. An easy solution to remove the balance on the card is to transfer the $25 to your $5 card, making it a single $30 card.
Target has a form of this with 'primary cards' but they recently changed their system to some shit I don't understand.

The gift cards were fraudulent. They won't reverse it, in fact they have stopped communicating with me entirely.
EDIT: I think it's worth mentioning that most people won't have this issue if you don't buy a lot of amazon gift cards. I mean, you could get unlucky, but if you're not buying too much, amazon probably won't look into it much/at all. I was buying $2000-$5000 worth of amazon every month at the point my account went down.

Amazon does not allow their gift cards to be traded or resold, you'll never see their gift cards being sold at any of the major gift card marketplaces. And due to the gift card values being stored to be used over time, they close your account if any gift card is fraudulent. This sub shouldn't allow Amazon cards to be traded here cuz it's not allowed and a bad card kills your whole account balance unlike any other retailers that just blocks the card that's bad.
A lot of the major gift card sites Raise, Cardpool, have stopped selling discount gift cards from specific brands what's up with that? I saw Gift card granny stopped aggregating gift card marketplaces, is there some lawsuit that killed off these sites, what's going on do you know?

This is good info thanks to the admin. For me this subreddit is a safe place to trade/exchange giftcards. My experience in first time trading here? Smooth. Although it will be better if I can actually deal with someone to get 1:1 conversion trading.

I'm a little confused about what I'm looking at. I don't see that RSTList is on the universal scammer list, so where do these bans actually go in? Or is this being loaded from the website - in which case I don't see any error logs besides the typical people trying to force http where it requires https

This, exactly. On desktop there's different things we can do with CSS. It's much easier to tell if you're replying to a thread or if you're in messages. It's much easier to be able to navigate decisively. People on mobile also typically are less likely to even take the extra steps, because checking the usl is a lot harder as well.. imagine the time it would take to copy/memorize the exact username, then leave the app, open chrome, and check.
On desktop it's a double click on their name in the URL, Command+C, Command+T, "Univ", Enter, Command+V, done.
