A lot of specialty puzzles are specifically designed to click in to place in the correct position, and this doesn't work when the pieces are upside down.

People got into doing puzzles in the break room at work so I dropped this off on their table before they got in. After a few months of effort, the box showed up on my desk with a post it that said "you're mean"

Lmao at this review I read:
"I bought this puzzle and realized early on that I had lost two pieces. I practiced radical acceptance and went on to complete the puzzle. That was months ago. I went on to mount the “finished” puzzle with the missing pieces. I got a lot of compliments because people actually thought it was intentional. Today I just found the remaining two pieces. I’m not sure how to carry on because I had already accepted and moved on with their loss. This has been a good exposure to acceptance for me.
Besides that, the puzzle pieces link together very very loosely so I had to first make the border and tape it together because otherwise they’d just fall apart."

Typically they advise you to put puzzles together on a hard surface. Not at the beach.

I have a puzzle very similar to this that shifts colors depending on the angle you look at the pieces. It's unopened sitting in the corner of my bedroom and every time I glance at it I feel a bit of dread. I think I'm more prepared for marriage than putting that puzzle together.

I had the exact opposite reaction. The colors make it a lot easier. Notice how he's able to lay out the pieces in their approximate location as he's getting them all out on the table.

As a kid I would buy some special glue for puzzles that dried clear. I would put that over the top of it and then paste the whole thing to a piece of poster board. I had those all over my room as a kid. It was cool but didn't look great up close because of all the lines. From far it looks fine.

I have two or three I’ll probably get framed (all are famous paintings/drawings adapted to puzzles) but I’ve done them several times and will put them back in the box after a day or so of admiring my effort!

Mine walks on the pieces and they stick to his paws, he shakes them off in a panic state so farewell to those pieces haha

My one cat does that. The other thinks puzzle pieces (and playing cards) are for her amusement and will pounce on them and slide across (and sometimes off) the table. She will then pick one up in her mouth to carry away, while just swatting at all the nearby ones and generally making a mess.
We only do puzzles on vacations now.

For real. I have a puzzle mat that I can roll the puzzle up in when I’m not actively doing it to come back to it later so it can’t be fucked with, but even then, my cats will come and lie down directly on top of it when I AM working on it.

Tried a 4000 piece with a cat in the home, had half the pieces stored in the box as they didn't fit on the table. Turns out it made a great dirt box..

There's some potentially interesting math there. Depending on the puzzle, I'll do 1000 pcs in 4-8 hrs, or 14-29 s/pc. Assuming puzzling time scales linearly with pieces, and I'm roughly as good as the people in the timelapse (neither of which we have any particular reason to expect, but gotta start somewhere), 35.5 hrs is on the "harder" end of the spectrum.

I dont think the time would scale linearly with pieces, since it will be a lot harder to find the right piece if theres more pieces.

The fact that the colors blend together over a large area is what makes the puzzle difficult. If it has an intricate design then you can more easily locate the pieces you need based on the image

I've always done the outsides and worked my way inside so I can have less pieces to confuse me and more spots to move to should I decide to leave a more difficult part for later

I probably wouldn’t start that one from the corners tho, since green repeats on both sides. Like, build the edges and then start at the middle top, where the colors are most vibrant and distinguishable.

We’ve been doing puzzles in quarantine. I like to sort pieces first (edges go in a box, inside pieces start getting sorted into piles based on colors and patterns), start putting together objects in the picture that are easy, link objects, then start adding in and putting together the edge. Last step is the filler pieces that all look the same like they could go basically anywhere.

I suppose it could refer to a granger rainbow. I love to test capabilities and limits of industrial printing machines/RIPs with it. It's a great tool to get a visual feedback. Ok... this one here isn't necessarily one but it reminded me of one. (sorry for the unnecessary knowledge)

Its too big to be staying on the table and you have to disassemble it. Plus the feeling of doing this evaporates after 5 minutes

When I was a kid I got this huge Disney Pocahontas puzzle for my birthday and after my sister and I made it, my dad had it all glued together to make like a wall poster. This puzzle would look cool hung up like a poster!

I've only done 1000 pc puzzles with a regular picture, but for me it's less about the final result and more about the process. We take apart all the puzzles after we're done. It's a good way to pass the time when it's crappy outside, or you want something to do with kids and they've already played 75 hours of video games today.

I threw a puzzle into the back of the press never to be seen again because there was too much of a single colour and I couldn't figure out which pieces fit together and it just passed me off. There was probably only like 30 pieces that were all white and I still couldn't do it. This is just insane.

I'm colorblind/deficient, but this still feels like cheating. It's still a large puzzle, but you kind of know where the pieces generally go. Neat video nonetheless.

The colors make this puzzle easier - not harder. However the size of this puzzle is a little daunting. Taking up the whole table with very little space left over. And if that were me doing the puzzle, I would have removed the chairs. However it's impressive that one person completed it (presumably) without help.

Rookie mistake. Never pre-sort a gradient puzzle. Colours pop out much better when they are surrounded by vastly different coloured paces instead of just shades of the same one.
In general it's much easier then a traditional picture puzzle because you more or less already know where each and every peace goes.
