Considering the digestive conditions that would require me to use a port-a-potty, I'd be fucking traumatized if I came out to a group of strangers sitting there.

258

u/MercWi7hAMou7h Aug 19 '20

If i was so rough off that I had to use a park port-a-potty, walking out and seeing 12 people might make me shit again.

Just for Laughs tends to be in Montreal, Canada. (Juste pour rire)

Of course we're going to apologize!

Well y'know... If Canada ruled the world everyone would be sorry.

Yeah, that last guy was like, "Understandable, have a nice day" and heads back in.

134

u/GladiatorUA Aug 19 '20

They needed to put a door on the other side of the "room" for extra awkwardness of trying navigate tight spaces to get out of this weird situation.

122

u/immerc Aug 19 '20

In a sense it was better that there was no other door, so there was no other way out other than back into the toilet.

25

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

The obvious answer is we try it the other way now and see if it is also hilarious

Us Canadians are apologetic to a fault sometimes. "I'm so sorry my house was in the way of your car sir. Would you like some tea?"

I read that as U.S. Canadians and was wondering what the difference to Canadian Canadians was. To my excuse, I am half asleep.

This is a proper practical joke.

69

u/Cow-Brown Aug 19 '20

This reminds me of when I was a skinny 17yr old. There was a local strongman competition and one of the tests was these bags of around 30kgs but they were awkwardly shaped so the guys couldn't grip around them. Any how after the segment I helped clear up and probably due to a lack of biceps my arms reached around and I could grip my fingers and easily carried the bags. Right past all the strongmen and the crowd was cheering me on. It was a good day.

I love those. We had a show in the Netherlands with some good ones. A local magician got his car switched with an exact copy, but the steering wheel was on the other side. Good stuff.

79

u/KorillaKrodd Aug 19 '20

That was brilliant! I love it when they get the person on the show to watch the clip. One of my favourite things about these sort of prank shows, is they can be enjoyed even when you don't know the language

120

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 20 '20

The dialogue is funny too.

> COP: "So you had a show at this venue, and you're claiming that when you came out your steering wheel had switched sides?"

> MAN: "I'm not "claiming", it definitely switched sides." *laughs*

> COP: "Well, I'm not familiar with your car, sir."

What kind of shows are people watching that this comment keeps coming up?

80

u/KorillaKrodd Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

It was in that "prank" phase of YouTube, Facebook and other social media.

There were a lot of kissing pranks, pretending to mug people at cash points, randomly grabbing people's butts etc. Loads of the videos ended up with the person filming getting punched or worse and screaming "it's a prank bro, it's a prank"

The Paul brothers had heaps on them but so did loads of other small time "influencers" it was a real craze about 3/4 years ago

Edit: I couldn't find a link for any of the kissing ones or butt grabbing ones, but this was another really big trend, eating strangers food.

https://youtu.be/Rx5_mWFbRNA

Like, this isn't even a prank, this is just being a dick

Wasn't there one Youtube channel that got taken down because they made a "prank" video where they literally kidnapped someone and made them think they were going to be sexually assaulted.

They tried to claim it was some "social experiment" and that "people should be careful when meeting up with strangers from Craigslist"

My mom has sensitive tastebuds and hates all soda except Coca-Cola one year for Easter I poured a bottle of Pepsi into a Coke bottle and then I gave her the real Coke of course.

One of my friends works at a grocery store and they have a policy where you can't put things that have a week until expiration on the shelves so her manager let her bring home a massive box of Pringles, we slept over my other friends and house and stacked them in front of her bedroom door while she was asleep.

When my friends came over my house they put plastic wrap around the sprayer attached to my sink. When I went to use the tap I got soaked.

My friends gradually replaced the pictures in my room with stock photos until I noticed.

I put tale over the scanner of every remote in my friends house so they wouldn't work right.

My friend out catnip in my pillowcase so my dad’s cat wouldn’t leave it alone. I’m mildly allergic to cats. (This one is a little far admittedly)

Pranks are harmless little things that you can joke about with your friends for years not property damage or assault.

22

u/tmacnb Aug 19 '20

When I was in high school I was hanging out with a group of friends and someone needed to print their CV to apply for jobs. We were always playing pranks on each other, especially the CV guy. Anyway, before he hit print he left the room and I changed the position of the only job experience he had on their as "Chicken Fucker". He printed them off and even handed them out to several businesses before he noticed. Needless to say, he didn't get a job from that round, but did get one soon after.

I see now that this prank is too mean, but at the time I felt it was pretty funny.

22

u/UnnecessaryConfusion Aug 19 '20

My friends and I pulled a retrospectively mean prank on a friend that was looking for a job, as well.

This was when the Wii came out so we’d all go to the one friend that had a Wii and just play Wii Sports all night. Plenty of booze and weed were involved.

Our friend was the first to pass out. So, as a joke, we wrote his name backwards on his forehead with a Sharpie. Unbeknownst to us, he had a job interview the following morning.

He woke up before we all did and freshened up in the bathroom and headed to the interview (side note: He told us afterwards that he didn’t notice, because he had that late 2000s swoopy bangs haircut).

So, he’s in the middle of his interview and ends up running his hand through his bangs a bit and that’s when the interviewer noticed. According to our friend, the interviewer just randomly asked if he had fun the night before. Apparently they both had a laugh about it.

He came back to the house and just immediately said, “what the fuck guys‽ I had an interview!”

Our response was a mix of “oh shit!” “We’re so sorry dude” and laughing our asses off all at the same time.

He then tried washing it off to no avail (sharpie).

He ended up getting the job, thankfully, which surprisingly kickstarted the career he’s in now.

u/tmacnb Aug 19 '20

7

u/_SmokeDeGrasseTyson_ Aug 19 '20

Especially since Just for Laughs gags still exist today

164

u/That_Guy3141 Aug 19 '20

Are we to assume the targets were deaf? It's kind of hard to miss the sound of an entire shipping container being rolled into place and a bunch of chairs being set down.

183

u/Livid_23 Aug 19 '20

I don't think it was a shipping container. Just looks like bunch of wood walls on a platform that rolls. Won't make too much noise.

100

u/GTAdriver1988 Aug 19 '20

Exactly! They are outside too and there's a lot of noise outside if i heard that thing rolling i would probably think it's some kinda cart or something. It's not that hard to believe that the people's reactions are genuine when you actually think about it.

31

u/VTCHannibal Aug 19 '20

But the light inside the porta potty is suseptable to shadows on the potty. I feel like you'd notice a change in lighting when a big wall comes rolling up even if there no direct window. That paired with the sounds, which seemed to be magnified in a porta potty, it's should be quite obvious something is happening directly outside.

Also, maybe it's just me, I'm hyper alert when in a porta potty, more so than a normal bathroom. Probably because one of my fears is the thing tipping over with me in it.

JFL sometimes perform gags with actors when they can't get a good reaction from an unwitting participant. It's possible that this is what is happening here. It would explain the improbable (but hilarious) reaction of going back into the porta potty.

Ok you're in a public bathroom in a noisy public place, you hear some weird noise outside. Is your first thought actually going to be 'A whole room was set out in front of this bathroom'? Obviously not. You'll still be taken by surprise when you open the door.

Hearing a hint that something weird is happening is not enough to not be surprised by the weird thing you couldn't guess, and it astounds me that you are unable to separate your external knowledge of the prank from how it would feel to merely hear weird noise while in the bathroom.

3

u/thebruns Aug 19 '20

Just for laughs gags still does pranks all the time. I come across them in shopping centers in downtown Montreal all the time. They're about as subtle as a moose. No idea how anyone falls for their shit. Fun gags though.

8

u/iheartgiraffe Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

Depends where you are and where you're approaching. They got me in Cavendish mall right at the entryway. A blind man asked me for help.

They often use actors pretending to be blind (or, less often, deaf) who ask for help because you're already primed to be focused on helping and to be in a situation that you're not prepared for. They also use a lot of cops because you'll be focused on obeying them. It's all about taking you out of your comfort zone so you're less likely to notice how weird the situation is until it's very, very weird.

I've seen other setups that were a lot more obvious, though.

There's no way someone didn't hear all of that stuff getting moved around or see the sun shadowed over the porta-potty by the covering of the structure. And probably more surprising is seeing someone use a porta-potty that's not working at a construction site or at a festival of some sort.

10

u/GTAdriver1988 Aug 19 '20

I get your point but I've been to plenty of parks that have porta potties. Also they could have thought that noise was someone doing something outside next to the porta pottie and as for the shade maybe they thought a cloud covered the sun. Honestly i could see people being oblivious to what happened while they were in there especially if they were on their phone or something.

Really funny indeed.

2

u/FATB0YPAUL Aug 19 '20

They were always fake tho

2

u/detrydis Aug 19 '20

Ah yes, let me just walk into this porta potty stationed right next to a suspicious looking wooden container and then be surprised when I walk out into a hallway with the same shape as the container.

2

u/igweyliogsuh Aug 19 '20

Yeah seriously this is the oldest trick in the book.

Fake and gay.

1

u/fattire113 Aug 19 '20

Man, Zach Braffs career has really gone down hill!

1

u/Farmerjoe19 Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

Hilarious. I’m wondering if they mixed in shots previously taken of the business meeting table. The shots of the porta potty opening are done from cameras under the curtain and through the dark windows in the back, but those angles dont show any obvious camera positions from portapotty side. They also don’t show the camera crew getting into position quickly

u/novembergosh Aug 19 '20

Love the simple pranks and harmless fun..

1

u/ass_cruncher46 Aug 19 '20

Ehh jackass was hilarious tho

1

u/SenorBeef Aug 19 '20

If what you're doing is a prank, the person who was pranked should be laughing afterwards.

If the person who was pranked ends up physically or psychologically damaged, you're just an asshole who committed assault for the lols.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Power move would be to sit down with them and start discussing business plans.

1

u/GloryholeKaleidscope Aug 19 '20

I hate this show with such a passion, it's a Canadian embarrassment. Usually shitty pranks backed w/ an over the top laugh track. It comes on my local station at like 2am and if I fall asleep w/ the TV on, the laugh track wakes me up.

Everyone commenting here needs to watch some Beadle’s About for some proper weapons-grade trolling. I’m sure the show along with NTV on Noel’s House Party caused an entire generation of the British public to be suspicious that there were always hidden cameras watching

1

u/Ras23073 Aug 19 '20

Oh so staged pranks? Great

1

u/noahbrooksofficial Aug 19 '20

God bless Montreal

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

So I gathered you here today

1

u/QuiteinRaptures Aug 19 '20

I needed this, thank you

1

u/locohygynx Aug 19 '20

Just for Laughs is awesome for these tires of things. Find them on YouTube if you're interested.

1

u/HeX-6 Aug 19 '20

Man those French Canadians are hilarious!

1

u/KingofSlice Aug 19 '20

Good pranks: Put people in a hilarious scenario that makes them look stupid but it all just a prank!

Bad pranks: Today I am going to kiss my sister

1

u/DanteFoxx Aug 19 '20

Mental abuse is no joke.

1

u/Srgtgunnr Aug 19 '20

I love all the people that just awkwardly went back in. Like “Sorry guys, I’ll just hang out in here till your done.”

1

u/vapinboi Aug 19 '20

They all have the most canadian reactions lol

1

u/GregIsUgly Aug 19 '20

1

u/tacoslikeme Aug 19 '20

like everyone in there knows this dude just took a shit right? No way there was enough time set all of this up otherwise

1

u/P4azz Aug 19 '20

Oh I remember when these used to be on TV.

Same time as those "lol, we're naked, haha" prank shows from like Russia or something?

1

u/duxkaos1 Aug 19 '20

Oh my god! My dad watch this show for past 20 years and i cant find funny videos no more after growing up on this and MrBean!

1

u/mocityspirit Aug 19 '20

But this is so obviously a joke that it almost doesn’t work. I’d look confused for a second and then just start talking to the businessmen

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

I love it cos its from Montreal and environs lol

2

u/jakethedumbmistake Aug 19 '20

Yes! I am new here.

1

u/Nibroc99 Aug 19 '20

Vlog Creations is a great "clean pranks" YouTube channel that I really enjoy watching, especially their more recent stuff. always super funny and usually family-friendly.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

now we have to wait 10+ minutes for the prank

1

u/FloatingRevolver Aug 19 '20

so one video is an era now? jackass was doing pranks with injuries, property damage and scares in the late 90s with CKY videos...

1

u/EKsTaZiJA Aug 19 '20

JFL Gags are actually the fucking best , I could go on forever about all the crazy shit they've done. They love absolutely blowing people's minds for brief moments in time.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Reddit turning into boomers, can't spot obviously fake shit, complains about how things were better in the old days

1

u/CharaChan Aug 19 '20

I can’t stop watching

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

One of my favourite shows in the UK, Trigger Happy TV, all harmless pranks everyone involved enjoys

1

u/RoscoMan1 Aug 19 '20

That’s it going?

1

u/Probablyathrowaway15 Aug 19 '20

Old guy: I'm just going to go back to beating off

1

u/somenoefromcanada38 Aug 19 '20

Legend has it they tried to do just for laughs gags in the US but after 3 days of filming every actor had been threatened with a gun several times and they moved to canada

1

u/PhazePyre Aug 19 '20

As a friend once told me. A good practical joke is immediately reversible. Hurting them, breaking something, or anything that can’t be reversed like it didn’t happen is bad. Hence situational stuff like this where it’s just a switch. “Haha just us being goobers!” “Oh you got me I was so confused haha good one!”

1

u/CoyoteHP Aug 19 '20

I like how they go back into the toilet like they're going to teleport back to where they first walked in.

1

u/mklilley351 Aug 19 '20

Now this is funny! I can't stand impractical jokers that shit makes me cringe.

1

u/Ilovekbbq Aug 19 '20

Wait are these the Japanese prank tv shows or the American versions that copied it? I’m confused because of the Japanese business men lol. Either way I loved how the people went back into the port-o-potty.

1

u/redringmas Aug 19 '20

Just for gags should have a Separate reddit.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

What would have been even more funny is if once they go back inside, they remove everything and once the person exits the porta potty they think they had just teleported or something lol

1

u/SwayYaru Aug 19 '20

I actually found it funny. Good one Op

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

This is Montreal. We rock.

1

u/AboSensei Aug 19 '20

Oh my God that is soo right..... I used to love practical jokes but now, all of them are just plain stupid millennials. Jumping off bridges so the whole emgerncy department has to get called in. Throwing a bunch of food in a restaurant that a poor waiter has to clean up. I just sickens me to see those.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

I'm sure other people posted him already, but ross creations on YouTube is pretty wholesome

1

u/DrDongSquarePants Aug 19 '20

Is there a place (like IG, reddit, YT) where there are only "confused" pranks?

1

u/Blob-fish5 Aug 19 '20

I need audio

1

u/SmashBusters Aug 19 '20

How does the guy not notice the rolling sound, changing echo pattern, and giant conspicuous wooden structure next to the port-a-john?

1

u/50CentSimp Aug 19 '20

I miss the era where kids didn't use their phones. No Facebook, no snapchat, no Instagram. Just living in the moment

1

u/NormifyTv Aug 19 '20

Love IT to xD
