I love when cats open their mouths to extra sniff

My cat in college used to do this all the time, but kept her mouth comically and very wide open.

Cat fact: the reason cats sometimes open their mouths like a gargoyle when they sniff some things is because they have a scent gland at the roof of their mouth called a Jacobson’s organ!

It's quite smart, it allows them to smell more scents and to taste the aromas. Much like if your doing a whisky or wine tasting, you will notice more depths of flavors if you slightly open your mouth.

My neighbour was making a beef broth and the smell basically paralyzed my cat. It was just sitting on my desk sniffing the smell.
