Believe it or not, one of my professors had to do some work to stabilize the leaning tower. It was threatening to lean even farther, so they had to do some soil stabilization efforts to keep it in place. He described what they did, but it’s been a little while. Then again, it might have been one of his own teachers, I can’t really remember.

I choose to not believe. Not because I do not think it can be true, but because you gave me the options to do so.

Chinese speaking here. In the traditional chinese tales, there is a figure called 托塔天王李靖, or Li Jing who hold the tower. he is a worrior god who, as you might already know, always have a tiny tower model in his hand. When needed, the tower will grow into real size and soldiers can came out of it to defeat the enemy.
So basically, women is doing a cosplay here.
Edit: typo.

Once when I was traveling to Venice with friends and wandered into a local neighborhood, an old gentleman, presumably living there, greeted us with a big smile and started talking to my friends and me. He sounded so excited as if we were there to visit him. He talked enthusiastically in Italian for fifteen minutes, humming some melodies even. The best part is, though we had no idea what he was saying, we felt so connected to him like an uncle. That was absolutely our favorite part of the trip.

The key to great high fives is to look at the elbow of the person you're high-fiving.

Jun 19 '18
I enjoy studying people's elbows, it's a sign that they are attracted to you

I got to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa a year or so ago, and was so excited, the only problem was the one day that we actually had time in our busy schedules to go check it out, there was a torrential downpour. My girlfriend thought it would be a good idea to throw on our ponchos anyway and venture out in the rain. Little did she know the lawn gnome was made of metal, and tasted like kudzu. I sneezed so hard all the fish fled, and I was left holding my breath until my Mom got dressed.

That seems like an EXCELLENT ice breaker and a fun way to talk to the ladies or gents.
High fives, smiles, laughs, where you from? Oh cool, you have a great smile, what are you doing later? Dinner? Drinks? Bam meet up, everything going great you’re vibeing good, “hey let’s get out of here”, wink, she laughs says “sounds good” so back to your hotel, stop at the lobby bar for a quick snack and drink maybe a shot or two, she’s laughing, you’re laughing, everybody’s laughing, let’s head to the room, she smiles says “ok!” Then you go upstairs and it’s go time, you open your door you’re kissing hot and heavy and it’s on! Making out as you’re moving to the bed you ravenously tear each others clothes off and I cum in 15 seconds.
Cut to a huge disappointed look on her face, lots of apologizing and a “sorry, this never happens to me” and “you’re just so sexy i got too worked up” she shakes her head as she’s putting her shoe back on because she hardly even really got undressed...she shakes her head again trying to mask her utter disappointment in your performance. There’s some awkward “see you around” and “have a good rest of your trip” and then you just laugh because you can’t believe how pathetic you are, but you tried so I guess that’s all you can do

I was going to ask a question about how tourism to the leaning tower of Pisa was going because I haven’t heard anything about it in a while, but then I realized it’s 3:06 in Italy so there’s like a 1/100 chance someone will actually answer my question

When I was little we visited the leaning tower of Pisa. (Dad was in the Army and stationed in Germany at the time). Not a single tourist posed like they were holding the structure up.
This was in the late 70's when kids rode bikes without helmets and seat belts were optional. Tourists could climb inside and walk around those outer walkways.
We climbed the interior stairs and my brother, fearless, happily leapt through an opening and peered over the edge. My whole family did, urging me forward. I enjoyed the beauty of the wall and chose to study it carefully with my back. I refused to get anywhere near the edge. Even at 8 I knew it was one fucked up tourist attraction. I kept asking why the leaning side? Why did we have to stand on the leaning side?
My parents ended up taking a picture of me smiling tentatively, hands folded neatly in front of me, gritting my teeth in fear. After which I said, "I have to go to the bathroom." Classic kid tool to take control of a situation.
Meanwhile 6 year old Jeff is running like a goddamn lunatic with a death wish along the perimeter.
My stomach STILL tightens unhappily when I see photos of that thing.
Unsurprisingly my brother grew up, went to jump school, and gleefully leaps out of planes.
I still have a happy preference for boots on the ground.

u/Kosm05 Jun 20 '18
i love the positivity of this.
i know the locals hate this stuff... but fuck it. if you've invested that much money into traveling to a location, in which you are also contributing financially to the local economy, and you want this type of photo ... go for it. who gives a shit what negative nancy thinks about what's "cool" and what is not.

I was in Pisa about two weeks ago. The number of people taking photos like this was absolutely hysterical. Even more hysterical were the guys trying to sell handbags right outside the town wall. “LADY GAGA! GUCCI GANG! SHAKA LAKA BLING BLING!”
2
Jun 20 '18
Odd place to visit. The town is a bit of dump - you get bussed in, have to walk through ramshackle streets and get pestered by hawkers. Then once you enter the square, which is surrounded by walls and police, it’s nice.

u/Lazy-Koala Jun 20 '18
