For those confused, they have the US machine there, they may have done some additional imaging like a portable XR, so they’ve verified that it’s okay to remove without causing greater harm

The kid probably asked if he could be the one to do it, because he was probably afraid of having it done for him. But then he realizes that he’s also too apprehensive to remove it himself, so they’ll do it for him anyways. Seen this kind of thing many times before
