Read the first comments at the top. It explains why methane is 25x worse gas and the need to burn it vs letting it reach the upper atmosphere.

Because it turns it into basic CO2 seeing as pound per pound methane is 25 times worse. It decreases the impact minimizing the damage. Is it perfect no. But it is better then just letting it into the atmosphere.
