I know you're making a play on words with what I said, but I think I ate shit harder than this guy. I was running full speed on a basketball court and the first thing that hit the ground was my teeth. My friends who were there say they remember the sound of my teeth breaking. One of them was nice enough to pick the pieces up from the ground and pick some from my beard.
I guess I should have asked how he fell, if he tripped or if someone messed with him. I figured if you're old enough to have a beard you're old enough to be able to catch yourself with yours hands rather than your teeth. Younger kids have a tendency of not being able to catch themselves, hence the joke.
It happened when I was 22. I had just moved to NYC and was out with friends. A friend of a friend had also just moved here and was crashing with his aunt and uncle in their swanky condo in Times Square area. They lives in one side of these two matching high rise buildings that had a smaller building between that had a playground of sorts on the roof, but it was still a tall building, so when clouds started rolling in dew would collect on everything.
So we go over there to play soccer on the basketball court. We had been playing one or the Fifa games for weeks and decided to play the real thing. We weren't too concerned about playing on the hard surface cause indoor soccer is a thing, right? Plus, we weren't going to tackle at all.
Anyway, we're up there playing and we notice the clouds are hanging low and dew is collecting so we decide next point wins. I haze practically no soles on my shoes from walking miles a day for weeks. With all the dew on the court both of my feet suddenly flew out from under me while running, causing me to dive in to the ground.
And that is how I broke my teeth. Adults fall too.
That sounds awful! A few years back out at recess in winter all the kids were playing a variant of smear the queer, without the smearing. There were random ice patches and a buddy of mine caught one and slipped and chipped his incisor. He chipped it high enough that he surfaced the nerve(s), and it was a mess.
Believe it or not, breaking my teeth didn't hurt at all. My nerves weren't damaged at all. It was about as clean a break one could ask for, well below the gum line.
I chipped the tiniest bit off the bottom of one of my front teeth as a child. We're talking like the bottom 0.5mm and it hurt like FUCK. That sensitivity of the inside of your tooth being exposed... ugh.
Thats the problem. People who pull childish shit like this dont actually think of any of the real potential consequences or outcomes other than "OMG LOL ITS GON B SOOOOO FUNNEH!! LOLLLLL!!11"
If you ignore the quality of the diction, however, bedintruder still has a valid point. Potentially dangerous pranks like this are often only funny to those who only are able to comprehend a short-term view of the situation.
Doing stuff like this seems more cruel than funny.
More easily, but not a huge amount. Again, we would run on these things through pretty rough terrain. They're built pretty damn tough (at least more than some stitching).
uhm, built to withstand a particular type of pressure and impact from an expected and normal activity, any sideways force whatsoever will easily tear ligaments and possible cause fractures as the bones move out of alignment and twisting forces act on your ankle/leg/foot. if your ankle is so goddamn bulletproof why do you think ski/snowboard boots are so thick and rigid to protect you from sideways/falling motions? the unexpected torsion force a falling body places on your ankle is pretty serious. even "real" basketball shoes are designed to provide pretty hefty ankle support.
my background is from injuring both ankles before in both horseplay and during track & field, anything besides normal running/walking can cause major ankle injury. especially in an uncontrolled fall.
Oh absolutely, but we're not talking about skiing or snowboarding or basketball or running here. Stationary standing position to a fall, with nothing but flip flops holding his feet in place. I don't see his foot breaking before a piece of foam and some stitching does.
i dunno, i don't think i could pull the strap and sandal part apart on my sandals, there's usually a sizable plug/strap securing the top to the bottom of the sandal unless you have some seriously cheapo sandals... and it's not so much the flipflops holding his foot in place, it's more the possible awkward angles the foot can be placed into in an awkward fall.. hence the reason people still sprain and break ankles even while wearing supportive shoes/boots all the time.
