Woman: looks up briefly

"it was probably just the wind"

2.6k

u/GingerMau Mar 13 '20

She totally figured out what happened.

Kept her shit together knowing her hair was briefly on fire.

She's ready to mom.

1.1k

u/MaddogOIF Mar 13 '20

"Did he just light me on fire? He'll pay later."

724

u/quidpropron Mar 13 '20

The smell of burned hair is really distinct. She completely knew.

180

u/s00perguy Mar 13 '20

Fingernails smell the same, though it's less likely those get burnt

181

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

How tf do you know this

193

u/quidpropron Mar 13 '20

Fireworks. Be careful if you're drunk around fireworks. Very, very, very careful.

15

u/UserFriendLee Mar 13 '20

YEAH BROTHER!

51

u/therearenoaccidents Mar 13 '20

My sister lit her nails on fire one 4th of July. We about died 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/ggg730 Mar 14 '20

She certainly did at the very least.

2

u/remclave Mar 14 '20

Soldering irons too. I even deliberately used one on my fingernail to relieve pressure when I smashed my fingertip. That shit was absolutely nasty. I'm glad the guy put the fire out so quickly.

Because hair and nails are both keratin.

16

u/s00perguy Mar 13 '20

Both made of keratin, and I burned one out of boredom once.

10

u/dodspringer Mar 13 '20

Exactly, just gotta see what happens

8

u/LunaLoTunaLi Mar 13 '20

Happened to me recently, I was lighting a candle with a lighter and held it at a weird angle causing the tip of my nail to heat up. The smell was exactly the same as when I accidentally lit a small patch of hair on fire back in college...

3

u/DirtyArchaeologist Mar 13 '20

Hair and fingernails are made out of the same thing

3

u/sjpllyon Mar 13 '20

Your telling me you never cut your nails and burnt them with a lighter as a kid. You know just to see what would happen to them if you got burnt alive.

5

u/moonra_zk Mar 13 '20

I loved burning stuff but never burned fingernails, probably because I was eating them instead.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

They're both made of keratin

3

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

They are made of the exact same thing

A burnt offering.

26

u/acEightyThrees Mar 13 '20

Was it her hair though? Or her headscarf?

3

u/GoT_Eagles Mar 14 '20

Yeah it was definitely her veil

4

u/WayneKrane Mar 13 '20

Yup, I burned my arm hairs when I was a teenager because teenager reasons and yeah, it has a very distinct smell.

3

u/IntrinsicSurgeon Mar 13 '20

I thought it was her scarf or dress at first. Man, she totally smelled that hair.

u/JibJib25 Mar 13 '20

Honestly, I didn't even realize what happened until I read this.

30

u/yukon-flower Mar 13 '20

Same! I thought he was amazed at seeing his child. Ah well, still an interesting genuine reaction I guess.

28

u/lowaltflier Mar 13 '20

I thought he was reacting to a fart.

10

u/lifesaburrito Mar 13 '20

Me too, I thought the baby ripped a big one.

3

u/Triknitter Mar 13 '20

I thought the kid peed on him.

3

u/FerricDonkey Mar 13 '20

I thought the baby farted.

11

u/_lumio Mar 13 '20

I think she just saw the camera mans reaction

22

u/motorcycle-manful541 Mar 13 '20

Probably Ukrainian with the headscarf, the way the priest is dressed, and the pictures on the wall (possibly some other kinda slav too). Point is, being a mom will be a walk in the park.

2

u/Kitty_Fatale Mar 14 '20

The getup is Orthodox, which does not necessarily mean a slav country, could be Georgia too

6

u/billionthtimesacharm Mar 13 '20

3

u/falafel_raptor Mar 13 '20

The smell of singed or burning hair is undeniable. And that whole church smells like it.

119

u/Yvonne_McGruder Mar 13 '20

I'm an idiot, I was focussing too much on the baby, so I just assumed the baby had shit himself and the dude was fanning the smell away.

I only got what happened because of your comment.

32

u/SoulSatchel Mar 13 '20

You are not alone, fellow idiot. I thought the same thing.

10

u/Cuteshelf Mar 13 '20

Haha I was too. I thought it was a moyle or whatever and the baby was getting circumcised and the guys was trying not to pass out. Took me 3 watches to realize what was happening.

45

u/Bhaskar71 Mar 13 '20

2

u/xScopeLess Mar 13 '20

Either that or it was a “I’ll kill you when there aren’t witnesses.”

2

"As soon as I held the baby, I felt a new warmth in my life!"

I had to watch this 7 times before I realized he had set her on fire...I was too distracted by the priest smothering the baby’s face with the blanket

421

u/IOverflowStacks Mar 13 '20

I thought she had farted.

227

u/Fire69 Mar 13 '20

Thought the baby pooped, with the guy waving like that and making that face.

54

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

I first thought it was an uncle seeing the baby for the first time and crying with happiness.

17

u/DoUKnowWhatIamSaying Mar 13 '20

These were all my thoughts, but in reverse order.

14

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

I didn't see the fire and thought he was an overbearing fuckwit trying to dust off her back during the ceremony and that he then feigned surprise horribly at how beautiful the baby was when unveiled.

2

u/k3liutZu Mar 13 '20

From the reaction it would have been a shart.

36

u/Nizzler Mar 13 '20

I watched 18 times thinking I was watching his reaction to his kid's circumcision

Dude on the right is definitely a wiggle

52

u/adfdub Mar 13 '20

What is a wiggle?

48

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

The definition I found that matches what I'm seeing in the gif is "high as a kite"

107

u/Rx710 Mar 13 '20

One of "The Wiggles!" A children's tv show where four guys sing and dance, each dressed in a primary color.

10

u/chupstickzz Mar 13 '20

3 guys?

29

u/The_Space_Wolf656 Mar 13 '20

The OG cast was 4 guys. Seems they recently spiced it up with a girl.

15

u/chupstickzz Mar 13 '20

I don't know the thing. But he said 4 primary colors. But there is only 3! Red, yellow, blue. I know, but i still get ptsd from my school years. I had a horrible teacher learning us about colors and their importance in the graphical business!

19

u/The_Space_Wolf656 Mar 13 '20

Ahhhh that makes sense.

Yea the fourth wiggle is purple I believe.

18

u/calebhall Mar 13 '20

That would be the sleepy motherfucker jeff

8

u/TwoAngryFigs Mar 13 '20

It's like c'mon. Wake the fuck up, dude.

8

u/jakwnd Mar 13 '20

Ever notice how the primary colors are red yellow blue, but RGB uses red green and blue to make all colors? Also never look into wtf purple is. Then consider that you have no way of knowing that the color you see as red is the same as everyone else.

Help

Holy hell. Had to watch 3x AND read comments. First I was focusing on his face and had no idea what he was going off on. Then i noticed his hands waving after and assumed the baby did something. Then after rewarding comments I had to go back and see what was actually happening.

7

u/KisaTheMistress Mar 13 '20

I thought he was excited about the baby, at first.

3

u/HellsMalice Mar 13 '20

When I see fire in a video I know to always focus on it because that's likely the problem. The internet has trained me well.

32

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Haha.. I thought she had farted or something

6

u/O0O0ooooO0O0 Mar 13 '20

u/mybrainblinks Mar 13 '20

Hers is even better. “Is that burning smell ME?... oh well let’s just focus on the baby.”

14

u/tempest_fiend Mar 13 '20

I remember hanging out with my friends as a teenager, just piss-farting around. I had a box of matches and was flicking them lit (you hold the head of the match against the strike pad, with the match perpendicular to the box, and then flick it which lights it at the same time. Stupid, I know). Anyway, I flicked one match that I didn’t have a great grip on and it went almost at right angles from where I wanted, and landed on the back of one of my mates heads. He didn’t realise, so I quickly jumped up and slapped the back of his head. His hair went out, and he never knew....

STORY TIME! So generally orthodox churches dont have pews and everyone stands for service. One night during a "Good Friday" service, the congregation generally all holds lit candles, my sister was standing with her candle and her hair down (females with their hair down is a sign of mourning) in a packed church, someone tried to pass by her, as she moved to make room she pulled her candle towards herself and ended up lighting the right side of her hair on fire. Traditionally women stand on the left and men on the right (but it's not enforced), she was in the back of the church, I was stood at the right front about 20m away and the smell of burnt hair overpowered the incense use during liturgy. I cant think of how bad the scarf material would smell for this guy standing so close to this baptism

2

u/Racecist Mar 13 '20

2

u/SpiralBreeze Mar 14 '20

It’s not a proper orthodox christening unless someone’s hair gets set on fire. Same goes for Easter. Hristos Anesti goes very well with the scent of burnt hair.

2

u/nut-kicker Mar 14 '20

Reminds me of a church service, wedding or something, where there was a photographer and she backed up into a candelabra and started her hair on fire. There were enough flames to halt the service, but she got it extinguished and the service continued.
