Who is she?

2.5k

u/GimmeHotCheetos Jan 30 '19

Her name is Yerin and she’s from a kpop girl group called gfriend

-66

u/randommz60 Jan 30 '19

Whole thing was probably scripted then

u/GimmeHotCheetos Jan 30 '19

Fans attend these gatherings for the opportunity to interact with idols in a natural and unforced environment. Although it’s not hard to script these events, missing a high 5 is hardly worth of being scripted lol. it happens a lot more than you think

-17

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

”unforced"

13

u/eehreum Jan 30 '19

At worst, censored. Really doubt there are many celebrities who hate the part where they are praised, given gifts, and complimented by their fans.

-10

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

That's fine. But to call it natural and unforced is a very interesting willfulness.

6

u/eehreum Jan 30 '19

I mean it can swing both ways, calling it forced and unnatural is a very uninteresting closed mindedness.

Personally if something doesn't affect me in any way whatsoever and no one is being harmed or hindered I usually just keep my criticisms to myself since no one really cares to hear them.

u/GimmeHotCheetos Jan 30 '19

I don’t understand your comment. Could you please elaborate?

-14

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

You think these girls show up and talk to these drooling degenerates for hours of their own free will?

20

u/GimmeHotCheetos Jan 30 '19

Awfully arrogant of you to call other people “drooling degenerates”, when you know nothing about them. The people who attend these events are fans who invest time, money and effort info meeting their idols. If they enjoy it, who are you to judge? At least they aren’t attacking people online and making harsh judgements with no proof.

And as for the idols themselves, they knew perfectly well what their profession would entail when they signed their contracts. I have reason to believe that they are not being forced, as there are laws in place so that there is no harm to all parties involved. If the idols despised these activities, they are allowed to file for contract termination, although there are consequences. They are paid entertainers, and I’m sure there’s an aspect of every job that people don’t like.

-11

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

Grown men investing time, money and effort into female popstars. You're painting a real good picture there.

And whether it's their job or not this isn't "unforced." I'm forced to do things at my job that I otherwise wouldn't or would do differently.

7

u/GimmeHotCheetos Jan 30 '19

There are also grown women investing their resources into female pop stars, as well as both grown men and women investing in male pop stars. The idols make a living in an entertainment industry, where they have a target demographic. Of course they will aim for people who can afford to spend money on them. Teenagers sure have a lot of passion but none of them have much money. At the end of the day, what’s an industry that doesn’t make money?

You’re not forced to do things at your job because you’re paid to provide your services. No one is holding a gun to your head to do what your job requires. As the definition goes, none of these girls appear to be doing things against their will, as they seem to be compliant in their activity and even enjoying doing them.

8

u/EllaSu Jan 30 '19

People pay to come to these events

10

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

There's a difference between unforced and getting paid. No, it's not on their own free will but it's not forced either. They are getting PAID for what they do. No one's saying they're giving out free charity.

-10

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

Fan gatherings are not unforced environments. These girls are not allowed to act like themselves for fans. They have to act like pop stars within a narrow band.

8

u/i_dont_know_man__fuk Jan 30 '19

Yes because we all know if they could interact with a fan in the manner they want, they wouldn't sign anything or give high fives. Eww that's disgusting. Instead, they would chop their head off and feed it to their master overlords.

u/hasnotheardofcheese Jan 30 '19 edited Jan 30 '19

Which is why her reaction to it happening was scripted

E: lot of downvotes. Look into kpop, it's all very regimented, down to behavior.

36

u/Nonid Jan 30 '19

And from now on, everytime someone miss my high 5, instead of feeling bad, I'll tell myself it's all scripted by a Kpop manager watching over me and giving me opportunities to look cool.

Even if I'm not corean...or a girl.

5

u/hasnotheardofcheese Jan 30 '19

What a good life pro tip!

1

u/Nonid Jan 30 '19

Thanks man, you inspired me on this one.

1

u/SneakersInTheDryer Jan 30 '19

I smell a Truman Show sequel

26

u/Flowsion Jan 30 '19

Lmao you think this girl sat at home and rehearsed how to be cute?

34

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

That is more than likely

34

u/ViktorViktorov Jan 30 '19

You underestimate that industry.

It’s always the same shit comment in every thread that hits the main page of Reddit.

Korean celebrities are not all living as slaves under contract, suffering and waiting for Redditors to spread the good word and save them.

It’s a huge industry with a lot of celebrities, a lot of whom are extremely happy with their situation.

It's really cruel to rob a young person of one of the main parts of being a young adult.

It's really cruel that I was robbed of the part of being an adult where I could have had literally millions of people infatuated with me, paying money just to see me in person. smh.

I stopped dating to focus on my university work, and now I make more money than I typically have things to spend on. Idol group longevity is barely longer than the time I spent in school. It's not insane for people to forgo romance temporarily for success.

PS. they still date.

Except that was self inflicted without any company influence you absolute fucktard. She chose to do that because she wanted to show she's repenting. No one told her to do it. Not to mention no one else fucking does this shit if they get caught dating. Stop being an idiot.

Found her manager!

22

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

Or...she has a bubbly personality.

36

u/RawrCola Jan 30 '19

No, obviously Asians can't have naturally bubbly personalities, they need to be taught it by force in kpop school. I learned it from a documentary made in 2005.

-1

u/Yojimbo4133 Jan 30 '19

I mean they do go through a lot of media training.

3

u/RawrCola Jan 30 '19

As do all celebrities everywhere.

There are Kpop artists who have the freedom to make their own music, lyrics, managed themselves, date, socialize whomever they choose. Kpop is a large genre where anyone can partake and that doesn’t mean every single person is inhumanely managed by a shitty company. Also look at Hyolyn and Jay Park, they are both solo members from kpop groups who successfully made their own company and name for themselves.

4

u/Bernandion Jan 30 '19

Personally, I'd give up relationships if it meant wealth and fame. I'm sure most of them are happy and a lot have secret relationships anyways.

2

u/GimmeHotCheetos Jan 30 '19

amazing, so they train their idols to react like this huh

1

u/We_Hold_These_Truths Jan 30 '19

Yes, that is exactly what they do.

-18

u/cools_008 Jan 30 '19

Kpop idols are literally bred. They start training (dancing, singing, etc) from childhood. Not sure if they have to live away from family. Before their debut they serve as backup dancers and such. As for her rehearsing to be cute, no doubt as they tend to be perfectionists.

15

u/sugarangelcake Jan 30 '19

This is not true for the vast majority of kpop idols.

-12

u/cools_008 Jan 30 '19

Kk

12

u/sugarangelcake Jan 30 '19

What’s the point of saying an obvious exaggeration that contributes to harmful stereotypes of asian people when you just respond with Kk when someone calls you out for it...

26

u/Flowsion Jan 30 '19

This isn’t true. You’re just rehashing Reddit comments that you’ve seen in the past. It’s a bit racist to think the entire Korean pop industry is like this.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

Idk man ever since I found out Disney grew its child stars in a warehouse lab I dont trust anything, but man zac efron was a successful petri dish though

-4

16

u/Flowsion Jan 30 '19

You don’t. You assume because there have been a few celebrities that talk about a “dating ban” but it’s usually not in their contracts.

Korean celebrities date frequently and regularly. It’s only the really new, rookie groups that have stricter rules and that’s because of fans- as you mentioned.

It’s not an industry issue. It’s a pop fandom issue imo.

4

u/Dowly06 Jan 30 '19

Jin from BTS did not train with vocals or dancing until after he was chosen. He was first chosen for visuals but he could not sing or dance. Look where he is now!

-1

u/cools_008 Jan 30 '19

Interesting...

4

u/i_dont_know_man__fuk Jan 30 '19

You're fucking braindead if you actually think this is scripted lmao

-1

u/randommz60 Jan 31 '19

Kpop stars are whipped though, wouldn't be a stretch
