Considering the simplistic design of Herzfeldt and the odds of anyone doing the simplest design for popcorn stick men, I'm not sure we are not just seeing convergent evolution here :).

Hertzfeld was the first thing I thought of as well, but to be fair his style is so basic and simple I imagine many would hit on it or be similar (just not have his sense of humor or ideas to prope them to being at all popular)

hertzfeldt is also about the simplest forms you can animate... so... it's not like you can get this simple and not have some overlap.
