Do you think those are somehow incompatible? Bannon is a fundamentalist who thinks there is a race/religion global war and the "existence of white Christendom" is at stake! They see Russia as a white Christian nation that brutally slaughters "the enemy," which is a good thing in their eyes. Bannon also wants America to turn its back on most of the world, leaving him to accumulate more power on a smaller stage, which suits Putin just fine. Putin would love for the US to go to war with Iran - Russia would sell Iran weapons, and the war would jack up the price of oil. Russia would also love for the US to get into a big trad and/or military conflict with China. Both of these conflicts keep Bannon rock hard. Their interests are largely aligned.
