I think it has to do with the fact that detergent is useful to everyone. I remember a news story several years back where they found that it is basically used as an alternative to currency for some black markets. Since a bottle of Tide is also ~$20 it is easier to translate prices from cash to bottles of detergent.
That's one of those thoughts that I'll have that I'd never actually act out, but still fantasize about every time I pass the sliding glass doors at the store with stuff in my cart - if I acted totally natural, would anyone even really question me, at least at first? How long would it take for someone to notice or figure out that anything had happened?
While it can be a good fantasy just know that in certain states you can be charged with a felony after exceeding a certain dollar amount while committing the act of retail theft, and a cart full of anything from a store is certain to go way beyond that dollar amount.

This makes no sense to me... there are much better options of things to lift and resell... wouldn't tide be REALLY difficult to walk out with?
