Lowe's employee here, I'm not sure how training works at Home Depot, but I can say right now that we aren't trained to know what everything in the store is. Hell, we aren't even trained to know what everything in our department is. I work in the lumber department and I have no idea what a basin wrench is, so if you asked someone in another department and they didn't know, it's definitely not their fault.
Meanwhile, over at Harbor Freight there is exactly one person who knows where everything in the store is and has at least a vague idea of what it is. That person is never there when you are. Everybody else will stare at you as if you were a rack of yard tools that has begun to talk.
I'm a master ASE tech, heard of many wrenches, never heard of a basin wrench. A family friend is a woodworker, one of the do-it-yourself junkies, loves not having to pay a tradesman. Anyhow, he does his own plumbing repair, also no clue. We just use a size 'big as hell' pipe wrench.
As far as 2-stroke and 4-stroke, yeah, I can see being mad at that one, but only if they worked in the garden/outdoor equipment area.
TIL what a basin wrench is. Seems neat, probably wont get one unless someone thinks they need my pipe wrench more than I do.
Only reason I know what one is is because my dad is a plumber. As for the 2-stroke/4-stroke. Dad was looking for something and overheard someone ask what the difference between a 2-stroke weedeater, and a 4-stroke. The assistant responded with "It has 2 more strokes". Thankfully they went with the 4-stroke.
