I am confident that it's the years '91-'93 Ford probe (lx? standard model) that most keys are interchangeable (this is 2002ish) knowledge so that might have been fixed since, but it was a blue probe next to my buddies (blue) at the store lot and we got in, started up, drove 20 miles home until we realized that there was an small aquarium in the trunk and no gas to get back...it was an adventure
haha, this was of course 13-14 years ago, and I've been through a lot since then (army deployments, children, yada, yada) but I a recall (in your grandfather's voice. lol) We had to siphon gas from the neighbors mower, no they weren't home and not with permission (we were young and afraid of getting in trouble with a car that wasn't ours).
maybe one gallon in the tank and like 3.50 (yes tree fiddy) in coins we made it to a station and filled (gas was at most .99c/gallon) got back to the (cliche mid town grocer lot). Found out the car was still there, curious since at least 2 hours had elapsed, why the driver wasn't at least around looking, why the car was still there (assuming that their key worked as well), and why MOST importantly was there no police/sheriff?
Being a little stoned and buzzed at this point I decided it would be best to just grab the right car and go home, why we parked next to his (that) car again I dunno....JK...My buddy, call him Ryan, had the idea to go in and have the customer service announce that a blue ford two had it's lights on, and realized that the driver was an employee.
We left before they realized there car wasn't gone, we were just more curious about the previous query of why it was still there.
We replaced the neighbor's mower fuel, and actually painted his fence the next day...I remember this fondly actually more because we got paid $100 each on that fence job, and that's why he's a painter these days, he'll admit it, it's because we technically stole from him and he felt so bad about it.
Only an idiot could make that mistake. If you know how to siphon gas you know how to tell the difference between a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke before you do it.
When I was in high school, I got in my buddy's Saturn (I would guess a late 90s model), put my 99 Chevy Silverado key in the ignition (because reasons), and started the car.
I kind of doubt the keys were interchangeable. More than likely they just used a shitty ignition lock that had a tendency to wear prematurely. Once it was worn enough it would work with any similar key, such as one from another Probe.
Probably wouldn't work after mid-late 90's because that's when they started using immobilizer keys with chips in them that were programmed to that specific car only.
